  • Many people have asked me to visit the grave of Phil Lynott, today I finally made the journey to Dublin to fulfil not only subscribers requests but also to pay my own respects to this amazing musician.
    Phil Lynott (1949 - 1986) was an Irish musician, singer and songwriter.
    Born Philip Parris Lynott in West Bromwich in England, he grew up in Dublin in the 1960s with his grandmother. His mother was Irish and his father was from British Guiana.
    He was a founding member of Thin Lizzy and was their songwriter, lead vocalist and bassist. Throughout his musical career he was also a member of Skid Row and Grand Slam.
    Thin Lizzy found success with ‘The Boys Are Back in Town’, ‘Jailbreak’, and ‘Waiting for an Alibi’.
    Phil married Caroline Crowther in 1980. They had two children Sarah and Cathleen together but the marriage fell apart in 1984. Phil had a son, Macdaragh Lambe, in 1968, but he was adopted.
    Lynott died in 1986 aged 36 and is buried here in St. Fintan’s Cemetery, Sutton Dublin.

    💐💖🇸🇪❤🇨🇮 Thank you, Sue! 🤗 You brought tears in my eyes, when I remember the first and last time I visited that place, myself, back in the spring of 1996, twentysix years ago. When we left Philos resting place we actually came across his mother, Philomena, outside the cemetary and she insisted on that we followed her home and visited her "Philo-museum", that she had arranged in one of her rooms. An absolutely astonishing and memorable afternoon we had with Philomena and her male friend that told us loads of stories and memories about Philo. A milestone in my life, for sure.
    I wish you all the best and my best regards from Sweden! 🤗🇸🇪❤🇨🇮

    Lizzy songs were the highlight of our school discos back in the seventies. I've only got to hear the first note of one of their songs to know who it is.
    Phil Lynott
    Gary Moore
    Rory Gallagher
    What is it about that little green island that gives us such brilliant musicians then takes them away far too early?
    Phil is eternal his music will live on when so called "stars" like Swift, West and Sheeran are dead and forgotten.
    You rock Phil, have a pint of the black stuff with Gary and Rory for us. 🍺🍺🍺

    One of a kind. His unique place will never be replaced by anything, anyone, ever. In my opinion, alongside tens of different unique skills he had, his most significant and yet kinda most overlooked side was his ability to sing his way before, through, over, after, I mean ANY WAY ONE COULD with the music. You realize this once you start dumbly thinking that Thin Lizzy songs sound easy to sing and end up realizing that it's actually the opposite once you get going. As a die hard Thin Lizzy fan from Turkey, I wanna thank you a lot for this video. It still saddens me a lot to remember the way he died really.

So many good songs; Romeo & the Lonely girl, Dancing in the Moonlight, suicide is a song about a Perry Mason episode entitled “the case of the lovers leap” ; i thought it was fascinating that Phil got the idea to write a song about it after seeing that show; the guitar work on that song is superb! I could go on and on, Cowboy song & Rosalee are great too! Rock in Peace Phil & Mom!

    Thank you for taking us on your tour. Amazing. Phil was my “guitar hero” as a California boy. My favorite concert was Lizzy at the San Francisco Warfield theatre during the Chinatown tour. 1981? I bumped into Phil about a year before he died while on a British Airways flight LHR-SFO and Phil was sitting a few rows ahead of me. I plucked up the courage to say Hello and soon enough he came back to sit next to me for an hour to chat. It was amazing. He was amazing. Sadly that was when he was in his deep addiction and his frequent trips to the toilet now make sense. So sad. A great man who inspired many people and will never be forgotten. I hope to get to Dublin to visit Philo’s grave one day. Again, thanks for the tour.

      Been a Lizzy fan for 40 years, learned to and was inspired to play guitar when I hear Live and Dangerous. But one thing to be clear, I don’t think his death was a miscarriage of justice. It was a choice to live in the underworld if drugs while looking normal in the surface. His death was tragic in the sense that he left his mom devastated and his young girls without a father. But he could have gotten help at any time. If his children were not enough to cause him to get help then they were better off other than having to see him decline if they were older.

    • @SerenitySueGraveyards
      @SerenitySueGraveyards  7 месяцев назад +2

      @matts1364 this comment hits hard with me as we lost someone we loved to addiction and mental health, won't get into details here but I will say help is there if they want it. Sometimes it's easier to drown yourself in artificial highs than face the reality and accept the help that's there. If you can't choose your children over the ups and downs of addiction it just means their darkness has won. Having said that, it's easier said than done. 💔

I had only heard the Jailbreak album and quick fell in love with it. I practically wore that cassette tape out until my stereo with the tape still in it was stolen. Later my husband bought me the CD . I really hadn't heard anything from them until about a week and a half ago when a documentary of the band popped up and I watched it. Started finding videos of them on yt and I have been so engrossed in listening to everything I can find and loving every minute of it.

Thin Lizzy were a great rock band, 'thpugh personally, i preferred the early Thin Lizzy, with Phil, Brian Downey and Eric Bell. RIP Phil.

      Probably not a popular statement amongst others, but losing Phil Lynott, was far more distressing for me than when Freddie Mercury died. I didn't get Queen at all, in fact, i thought they were better when Paul Rodgers fronted them.@@SerenitySueGraveyards

    Thank you for visiting for all of us who can't make it all the way there! Still miss him. Drugs have taken so many talented people way too early. I still listen to "Sarah" on a regular basis - it always lifts me up, such a beautiful song. Just wanted to add that the last name is definitely pronounced "LIE-not". I've been saying it wrong myself for a very long time as well. Thanks again, Sue!

      @@SerenitySueGraveyards I know, I used to find "lin-not" more natural but it's wrong. Sarah said in an interview that Phil used to say "I'm not some feckin' bird" when correcting people's pronunciation :)

      Sarah is my favourite song of theirs,and I've always called him lie-not,I once read he was married to the daughter of leslie crowther,the man who used to do the price is right,and stars in their eyes, if anyone remembers him.its such a lovely grave.i think his song called sarah was made cos his first born daughter was called sarah.🙏

    • @LoganSusnick
      @LoganSusnick Год назад +1

      @@christinegill3425 That's correct. Although he has a son, I think Phil was married only once, to Caroline Crowther. She is the mother of both Sarah and Cathleen. He did write "Sarah" for his firstborn daughter. But when two years later Cathleen was born, Caroline had made it clear to him that he had to write another song for Cathleen as well :)
