Being upfront about wanting everyone to be Catholic certainly catches people off guard, but it is way more effective... Coming from experience.
Did something similar in Highschool but instead got a pie to the face b4 I could converse.
@@markoz673bajen8 I too have had a pie to the face in high school.
But it was because I was a freshman at the time and the Seniors thought it was a funny prank.
I love that priest. His discourse marries the sword and the heart so effectively.

“….a ft-long crucifix hangin from my hip!!” I’ve already heard it 3-4x & it cracks me up every time!! 😂🤣😅God bless you richly, Fr Gregory - you’re such a gift!!
I have a very dear Protestant friend and we have a lot of mutual respect to one another. That's why we openly admit we believe the other is a heretic and putting in jeapordy their immortal soul. Honesty is important.
The truth is necessary
I can relate lel.
My favorite thing! Evangelize! Love it❤️Usually , ‘unless you eat My Body and drink My Blood you have NO LIFE in you’ gets their attention. I too get tired of hearing- are you saved? 👍Great conversation- thank you.
Sound a like my agnostic brother and I. My brother calls me a filthy papist and I will respond with something like” careful, you’re within crusading distance.” When I started just being direct and honest saying, yes I do think the Church is right and you’re wrong, I started seeing more fruit and even just better conversation, funnier conversation too.
@@christianmaestas4435 I love this 😂😂
"Sound byte me dog!" Caught me by surprise. Absolutely priceless.
Thanks Father Gregory! I've hiked the Camino twice as a single female and have met many of these athiest women. I have my rosary with me always and yes, they come across wanting to dominate, but underneath it all, is a core of curiosity. I am sure your armor of Thomasim intellect, faith and reasoning, must have been inpenetratable!
I was one, hahahahaha. Very cringey phase. Theology of the Body, the 'She Who Is' book, and lots of Rosary from prayer group got me back to Church. God is good.
Obviously, Fr. Gregory posseses the skill of empathy. A dishonest conversation is the last thing he wants to have.
Fr. Gregory Pine, I laughed out loud AT LEAST eight times while listening to this dialog. You are awesome, brother!
"Party on!" LOL 🤣
"Don't do that again"
"Ahh... hips be movin... "
"No, really, just stop"
party on lol
Fellow protestant here: I see Catholics as my brethren in Christ. Theological and liturgical differences do not separate us from the beautiful and simple Gospel that Christ is our Lord, that if we place our faith in him for the forgiveness of our sins, we shall have eternal life in the presence of God. Hallelujah!
My husband takes me to church every Sunday it's truly amazing
MAN ALIVE!
I LOVE your discussions w/ Fr. Pine...
I so admire both of you. As somebody with ADHD I feel like my brain can only handle one disjointed thought from any given moment to the next.
I admire the gift God has given Fr. Pine to be so articulate, humble, quick and witty.
Nothing but admiration here.
Blessed be God for the spectrum of wisdom & sanctity, He allows us to participate in!
May God be praised forever!
Thank you, Fr Pine. I love the approach. It so helps me think of what it means to be a Christian!
So, what about the talk on the meaning of the Sermon on the Mount?
And/or the meaning of the Lord's Prayer.
We love you, Fr. Pine.

Fr. Gregory has the funniest facial expressions and gestures 😂
Why is it always about abortion, sexuality or gender? Like father Pine said, they went straight to reproductive rights. It seems to always go there, it never is about philosophical matters, always about sex. That says a lot as to what so many people idolise in their lives. Paul said something interesting in one of his epistles, he said, "Their God is their stomach".
Love the bantering guys. I always learn something and you have me laughing in the process!👍
Matt, I told my mom that I was becoming Catholic because it was more right than being Lutheran. She asked why I was leaving the Lutheran church.
... Well? Don't just leave us hanging! How'd the conversation go?
@@csongorarpad4670 my mom cried a little, then told dad. The greatest thing then happened. My dad argued theology with me for only 2 weeks and then confessed he was jealous because I would get to participate in communion daily if I want and as a Lutheran, he only got to take communion every other week. He was okay with me becoming Catholic because if the Eucharist.
One last story about my dad. In 2016, my parents move I. With my sister in CA. A Catholic women brought a rosary, a prayer blanket, and a pamphlet on how to pray the Rosary. (I don't know why, I am the only Catholic) it was a Divine Mercy Rosary, plastic. That night my dad prayed the Rosary together. He tried to get the beads on but couldn't (it had a small hidden latch). They found him the next morning. He died in his sleep and he had the Rosary on. When I saw him in the morgue he looked more alive and healthier than he had the past 20 years. He looked 60 something rather than 80. He was cremated. Since then his ashes have become a solid mass.
@@katherinebrumley7794 Wonderful story! Thank you for sharing it!
You get hard looking at women in veils? idk

What a great young Priest🙏
God bless him🙏
Yes! Amen! The Gospel is the story of redemption.
Totally lost me for a moment there and my sense of direction, time, and memory are only slowly recovering. What was he trying to explain. Oh well. Really good short video. Thanks!
Yes, I could not follow what he had actually said to the feminist. I wish he would have literally just said what he said to her rather than explaining his philosophical approach
I think he was drawing a distinction between what they define as right and what we as Catholics define as rights. And so the discrepancy is then that we define our rights as God-given. Which i guess the logic would then be that the entitlement to an abortion is then not God-given.
Could be off-base there and I probably missed something else he was trying to get at but that’s where my mind went.
Best Father Pine clip EVER 🙏🏼
Fantastic clip and very funny, too!
I love Father Gregory! 🙏
I would love to hear the details of these objections and the replies.
I myself come from a Protestant position, but I also understand that we share essential core doctrines with Catholics which form a common “orthodoxy” between all legitimate Christian believers - the most obvious one being the doctrine of the Trinity which upholds the divinity of Christ & which is rejected by all false cults such as the Jehovah’s Witnesses.
I guess the sticking point which has often raised question marks in the protestant/catholic dialogue is in the emphasis which is placed on whether we are saved by faith or by good works or how we relate to those elements of our relationship with God. If we have genuine love for Christ as our Saviour and Lord and we understand that we rely on His grace in order to function as Christians, then there is no need for conflict and it becomes more about peripherals.
Except you lack the sacraments and thus put your soul in danger.
@@samuelbuckingham6216 Again it is down to our emphasis regarding faith and works. Certainly you have sacraments administered by an ordained Catholic priest, but we also break bread in the protestant church. Baptism is also performed along with marriage & funerals, so it is only a debate over who has authority to carry out these functions. Remember that the religious leaders in Israel questioned the authority of Christ and the disciples to do things in the name of God, but God authenticates those who He approves of. Having the title of Catholic priest does not always mean that God is endorsing that person (as we have all heard in the news about the scandals)
@@MarkHunterSolo Well yeah the debate does come down to authority but protestants don't have a system which even purports to practically solve the problem. Whereas the case for the authority of the apostles and their successors is incredibly strong and just saying "bishops sin" is not a sufficient refutation.
@@samuelbuckingham6216 I have to concede that the Catholics treat the marriage vows more seriously than the Protestants, possibly due Henry VIII wanting a divorce and thus supporting the split with Rome. However the split was not confined to the UK as Luther, Calvin & Zwingli presented massive theological challenges to unbiblical traditions which arose in the catholic church such as monetary pennances ("when the coin in the coffer rings, the soul from purgatory springs"). If the Catholics claim apostolic succession then why their departure into non-scriptural practices? Also the claim of the orthodox church to apostolic authority is equal to that of the catholics since the apostles John & Paul were heavily connected with the eastern churches. It was only the musilim offensive which diminished the influence of the eastern orthodox church as compared with the western catholics.
@@MarkHunterSolo Nothing that you say about marriage or protestant history refutes the case for apostolic succession. "Nonscriptural" is a private judgement and is not one that the living successors of the apostles agree with. We should conform ourselves to their judgments not our own. I never understand this about protestants. They obfuscate like crazy. I suppose it's because deep down they know their church is outside of the authority of the apostles and they are grasping at anything to lessen that problem. Granting you your point concerning Orthodoxy then you still are left with Catholicism or Orthodoxy but not protestantism as they are not in communion with any of the living successors to the apostles.
By now we should all know exactly what “just have a conversation” actually means.

I know a lot of feminists who describe themselves as capitalists, conservatives, and/or Republican, starting with my late mother, who called herself a Goldwater Republican and played the stock market.
She gor her feminist streak from my grandfather, who told her she could do anything she set her mind to, because she was smarter than her brothers. She got her theology from my grandmother, who was a Methodist and a member of the WCTU.
Why do you think she was a feminist? Did she identify as such? Did she read feminist philosophy? Did she agitate for female liberation?
@@meowy4720 She did it because my paternal grandfather, her father-in-law, used to say that God made women less intelligent then men, and that women should not drive, vote, serve on juries, or own property.
My maternal grandfather raised her to believe two things. First, she was as smart as any man. Second, no man got to tell her what to do, simply because he was a man.
@@kentfrederick8929 yeah, but that's not what it means to be a feminist. If she was into right-wing politics, then she wasn't a feminist.
@@kentfrederick8929 I mean, did she actually identify as a feminist, it is that just your interpretation?
@@meowy4720 She actually called herself the anti-feminist feminist. She was a feminist in that she thought it was unfair that she and a man had the same job title, but he got paid more while doing the same work, and not as well.
She was a feminist, because she despised Phyllis Schlafly.
She was the anti-feminist, because she thought Gloria Steinhem was a dreary person, wearing drab clothes, little makeup, and the same glasses as her mother, who was then in her 80s.
My mother laughed, when a feminist described marriage as slavery for women. She thought it was slavery for men, since my father had to do plumbing, electrical work, plastering, gutter cleaning, hanging wallpaper, and installing ceramic tile. Cooking, cleaning, and laundry was much easier.
Matthew Matt - can you tell me about the relic(s) you have on your shelf and the story behind them?

Sheila ??? Haha. Love it. Oh yeah, and the discussion, too.
Feminism or other types of "identity catalogs" are a funny way to transvestite (for some ideological agenda) the hierarchies that naturally arise in society as a consequence of our natural differences in ability. I suspect that as long as some kind of society exists, it is inevitable that some kind of hierarchy will emerge, and I suppose that these hierarchies will be more marked/rigid the more we try to suppress them (but it is an educated guess, don't believe my word). I don't think the problem is in the hierarchies themselves, because as I said, they seem inevitable to me, but rather in the type of hierarchies that society promotes, for example, a hierarchy based on competencies is not the same as another based on victimhood, both will produce very (very) different results.
Now you can admit the inevitability of hierarchies, but at the same time you can agree that not all hierarchies are based on power, you can agree that people at different levels of the hierarchy must have equal treatment before the law, and you can agree with society establishing mechanisms to provide access to the means so that people, at different levels of the hierarchy, can create for themselves a comfortable life, move freely through the levels of the hierarchy (using those means provided by society and their own efforts), and fully develop as humans (which includes accepting that I'm not going to be the best at everything since there are natural differences, which in turn is not an excuse to become resentful and avoid trying to to develop my own abilities to the fullest). To call these kinds of mechanisms in some way, I would call them "mechanisms of opportunity" (such as an excellent public education). Now, when a society tries to implement these mechanisms (which I see as something positive for everyone, even for those higher up in the hierarchy), I would emphatically avoid implementing them through a pseudo and parasitic philosophy (i.e. ideologies) based on the word "oppression" or other similar type of rhetoric. I would avoid it not because oppression does not exist (of course there is, and sometimes it's brutal), but because the policies and/or mechanisms based on such rhetoric are self-destructive in nature, since they create a false morality based on the differences. That means that when people are on the "wrong side" of a difference, they automatically become bad people (not even wrong people, which in turn doesn't even necessarily have to be true).
It is from this point of view that I really appreciate the Christian message, in which there is a God who loves us all equally (despite our differences), and who died for all of us (despite our differences), so that we could all have a chance to redeem ourselves by using our free will (despite our differences). In that message it does not matter if I am the son of Hitler, my race, my abilities or any other type of difference, what matters is that I am a son of God, and that it will be my own actions (not the actions of others), the ones that are going to save or condemn me, but without forgetting that I need the God's grace to be saved, since I am not going to be able to do it alone (humility versus pride, recognizing that there is something greater than myself -I'm not the center of the universe-). That is a God who loves us all in the same way, and he is always willing to receive us, regardless of our differences or our past. That is a message of love and union, not of division, I prefer a society based on that message, than a society with good intentions (at least at the beginning), but based on the concept of feminism and oppression (or some kind of similar rhetoric based on our differences). I also appreciate a lot the Buddha's message, especially when he talks about the Middle Way. Avoiding the extremes gives vision, knowledge, leads to calm, and to insight. Again, that is a message that seeks union instead of division, because extremism (versus temperance) always leads to bad outcomes (regardless of the good intentions at the beginning). Therefore the message of love is a great one, but accompanied by temperance please, let's not kill our neighbor, in our attempt to save him (and before trying to save him, I would first look at the beam in my eye) ..
Blah blah... yes. God loves us all equally!!!
The issue is that we all don’t love Him equally. And those who don’t love God fully must be choosing other things over God.. those who chose other things are more likely to chose hell over heaven.
Gods bless.
yea right the hierarchies that just happen to put men on a pedestal. Religion is affirmative action for men

Yes, they can be too short!
Oh Father- I’d never argue with you 🙏😂
An authentic Dominican Friar. 😀
So what else ya got to do while walking for days and days? A six minute intro to grab someone into a really intriguing discussion sounds like the best reason ever to go on The Camino...or the Appalachian Trail ...
The JW story is hilarious 😅
Odd to think of a Marxist feminist on the Camino.
I mean, I'm an atheist and I'd like to do the Camino myself, though as part of a charity hike. Some kind of charity for children, not sure exactly what yet. So I guess it's not necessarily a religious camino... though it started out that way, and is fundamentally religious. I mean it _is_ a pilgrimage afterall
The Camino is only as religious as you want it to be. I have walked with atheists, agnostics, Catholics and Muslims. Everyone is welcome to be a Peregrino.
Buen Camino!
Hope you will go on the Camino!
Yes. I want everyone to be Catholic! Yes.
How you can call abortion a “reproductive right”? It’s about non reproduction, not reproduction. I’m pro-choice. The woman should choose to keep her child.
Lol he called her a Sheila
He's talking to Sheila. Who's Sheila?
"Sheila" is Australian slang for woman
I've never been this early lol
Friar showing a little greenness or ignorance confusing jws with protestant. But also shame on Pradd for not correcting him
This is really not relevant but I just noticed how similar you both look - you could be brothers!
Did he classify Mormons as protestants?
Personally, I also prefer talking about religion with atheists than Protestants. A Protestants who sees a Catholic and has the courage to harrass the Catholic and tries to convert the Catholic to their Protestant faith is dangerous. Unfortunately, they catch and deceive weak Catholics through this method
Absolutely right. And they shamelessly have a you tube channel showing these cheap tactics. They're after the one true church for a reason.
The Watchtower guys who wanted to "encourage his faith" might have less excuses if the "archdiocese" of Chicago hadn't approved gay marriage and if Nicanor Austriaco hadn't promoted Theistic Evolution. They are not YEC, btw, I know from at least two of their tracts that they are more like Hugh Ross-ian Old Earth Creationists, claiming the days could be ages.
But another thing is, they seem to have some kind of rule (perhaps it hasn't always been the case) that they prefer not to convert those who already have some kind of Christian life. They are not Feeneyite. Hence, they encourage your faith if you have one, and if you haven't, they convert you. They are also open to converting you if you start the apologetics. Stating the case from their point of view.
…it’s also a former of lying if you pretend you don’t want them to be Catholic.
Is it a lie though? Or a strategically drawn out way of trying to make it happen
@@MikeyJMJ …trying to make it happen by deceiving the person into thinking you’re just “talking it out.” Deception isn’t water down because it’s takes a long time to complete.
LoL Gregory is too smart -.-
A co-worker was an atheist. I liked him a lot, but he would corner me sometimes and just dig at me. One time, I was too tired to play and just said "Look, I just like my fantasy better than your fantasy." He smiled "Fair enough." We parted friends, and he never bothered me about it again.
So you believe in a fantasy? That’s not exactly having faith in the truth, like someone who believes In Christ.
Sorry to hear that you had an unpleasant experience with your co-worker. From, an atheist
I can understand the mental exhaustion. Mother has a sexist anti-Christian friend, and he does nothing but belittle us and constantly point out potential hypocrisy and contradictions. He's very childish in that way. Shame because he is an interesting and knowledgable man.

Did he just associate JWs with protestant Christians????
Man, that was was cringy. Someone with his chops shouldn’t make such a mistake and neither should you have.
what you mean? those darn protestants are always coming out from their kingdom hall to go door-to-door passing out watchtower books. and dont get me started on those protestants who ride the bikes out their temples from utah. ..or the ones who pray 5 times a day to allah and keep their womens wrapped up like a candy bar. all these confused protestants need to just figure it out and become cathoholics
They're specially anticatholic, their bibles have 66 books and were founded from adventism (a protestant branch) and from restorationism that denied apostolic sucession (a protestant trait). I agree they're not protestants because they are not christians in strictu sensu. In any case I think he was speaking in general about his experience with some annoying evangelical protestants street preachers and then he jumped to JW's anecdote without any nuance. I don't think he intended to be precise or exhaustive.
@@MrMarcodarko they aren’t. Not even close.
Protestants are catholics in protest of a degraded theology. JWs are a cult who doesn’t worship Christ.
If the orthodoxy of the RCC is to conflate these two, then there isn’t really a conversation to be had.
I was sad to see Matt let this one slide by.
@@Fasolislithuan he should have been precise. He wears the cloth. It means something. Very disappointed that it was let to slide. Complete conflation and detrimental to anyone watching who is in the grip of the cult of JWs.
Matt should have corrected it.
Both are heretics
So, why is catholicism better than other forms of Christianity? Speaking as a non-confirming deist here with a close relationship with God. Other than being born into it, why would someone convert?
Having a man standing in as god's authority on earth, having a very wealthy church with a hierarchy and meaningless rules, icons and idol worship, recitation instead of revelation, plus the crimes of the church throughout time (inquisition, conquest, pedophilia, fomenting pogroms, etc)
Help me here, I'm not getting it.
I was "born into it," but I would not stay if I believed that another branch of Christianity was the correct one. The pope is a sort of prime minister who governs God's Church. In the Book of Kings, one individual was given the keys by the king. This was a sign that the man had been appointed prime minister (his predecessor had been corrupt). What alternatives would you like to have a visible earthly leader? Thousands of different sects, each claiming to interpret the Bible correctly? Or, slightly better, national churches such as the Anglican or the Eastern Orthodox? There will always be crimes in the Church because humans operate it with free will. Corruption is always there, but so is grace. Other denominations and religions have also had their share of scandals, but these are underreported. We don't worship idols; we have pictures and statues of the saints to remind us who we ask for help. Praying to the saints is not rendering to created beings the worship due to God alone, rather, it's asking a friend to pray for us. Hope this clears things up a bit!
"So, why is catholicism better than other forms of Christianity? Speaking as a non-confirming deist here with a close relationship with God" It'd probably serve you better to first figure out why is Christianity better than other forms of religion - but if for the sake of argument we have that taken care of, then the intramural arguments between Christian factions properly reduce to history and ecclesiology. Your rant on "Having a man standing in as god's authority on earth, having a very wealthy church with a hierarchy and meaningless rules, icons and idol worship, recitation instead of revelation, plus the crimes of the church throughout time (inquisition, conquest, pedophilia, fomenting pogroms, etc)" is nothing but a flamming strawman based off black legends, uncharitable takes and your own deistic presuppositions.
Can you clarify what you mean by "recitation vs revelation"? Also do you come from any faith background? Because you negatively mention the Catholic Church's supposes "wealth" & "idol worship", but how would you define idol worship (or anything really) without some perception of what true/proper worship is?
