i think this is a great way to develop your own editing style. people think this is just copying, but the true way to just copy is by putting the image in photoshop and copying the color grading instantly through there. however - this way teaches one to actually understand the color grading formula better and then they can make their own adjustments to their personal liking. i think this is perfect for what i need. i have tons of inspo and it's a brilliant idea to literally have the image next to mine when i'm editing. thank you for the helpful video :)

Fantastically helpful, Sean! You spent time to walk through and talk through your steps - this is one of those "finally I can see myself doing this!" videos. Thanks!
I'm not particularly a photographer but this technique is what I came up with when I was learning (still learning) how to edit photos. This video has helped me understand what I was doing even better now. Thanks!
I looked for a video like this for so long that I pretty much gave up. This is precisely what I’d been looking for and so much more. Such a simple process too. Thank you so much!
I really like the tutorial, and I think this framework allows to get your own editing style over time. What I don't care is the "Aesthetics of my feed". Art shouldn't be confined to "look consistent", it should be free. Your photos can look vastly different. It might get you less followers, but you stay true to what you like, not what followers like.
Hey Jan, I fully agree with you. Unfortunately, in order to be successful on a platform like Instagram you're almost forced to confine your work to a specific visual aesthetic. Some people break through that of course, but it's not easy as a photographer. This is one of my biggest gripes with Instagram and one of the reasons why I stopped being so active. I don't like feeling confined, and I think this can be very detrimental to new photographers who need to explore different styles.
I love playing around with my editing and teaching myself new things. So when I watch videos like yours, it's crazy how alike you can be with photographers editing wise!
this was indeed a very helpful video for me personally. I was wondering from where to start either color or lighting as i was confused because of tutorial loops but this is a saver. Thanks a lot.
Sean - this is the video that was missing from my "collection". A great starting point to begin colour grading. No fluff, straight to the point. Subscribed. Thank you, sir!
you have a good eye and deconstructing the inpiration with the workflow to get a similar look was very well explained and executed. Keep it up..I was impressed you saw the split tone.
That was wonderful! I know nothing about lightroom, I just kind of tap on things but this was my first time using the S curve and wow, that has blown my tiny little mind. Great video! thanks!
This was more helpful than I thought! learnt some newlightroom skills I didn't know about tool, like holding option while sharpening! cheers. great vid
Thank you, this is one of the most educational instructional videos on RUclips I've found in a good while. Great for beginning to intermediate editors.
Sean i've been watching alot of your videos and they given me tons of inspiration. I just got my first camera (sony 6400) and i can't wait to get some shots in. Looking forward to more stuff from you.
Oh my god, this is seriously the most usefel method and tutorial i have seen in a LONG time. Thank you so much, i really feel like this way to work is gonna help me get to the next level. Keep up the good work because i just subscribed ! :D
Indeed, this process still is a little intimidating since I’m not familiar with what all of the sliders do. Really great seeing you break down editing steps. Enjoyed the vid very much.
This is one of the best videos I’ve watched in a while. I’ve recently purchased a new camera body and regained interest in photography. I’ve always been frustrated that I made great progress in shooting over the years but still haven’t found my own & consistent editing style. This is a great way to get there I think! It will help me refresh my use of some of those Lightroom tools and also learn new ones. For some reasons, Photoshop always frightened me but not anymore 💪🏼 Hopefully that’s not just excitement of the moment and I manage to get there 🤞🏼 Thanks for the video btw. The photographer you chose as a reference has an incredible editing style and that is right up my alley! PS: I started taking photos after discovering 13thWhitness work on Edge of Desire tour video by John Mayer. I then saw his photos, I was blown away!
Thank you for your video. It is a really good way to edit like our inspiration. Very useful to show all the steps even in photoshop to do a simple 4 photo collage. I am a beginner with Lr and PS and it will really help me to improve !
Very well explained video! I reckon one little thing you've missed is that all of Jack's shots have a vignette effect as well as some being darkened with a gradient filter or two. If you look up to the top corners of each of his pics you'll see the light darkens off quite a bit. I feel like almost all adventure photographers (you know, the guys who shoot Landrover defenders driving around Iceland etc) use a bit of vignette to build the drama. It's funny, there are a obviously a few different ways to get to the same result and it's really interesting to see how you get to there as opposed to how I would naturally imagine to get there. I would have guessed he starts by pushing up the warmth, then desaturating the whole shot, then selectively altering the hues and saturations of specific tones (namely the blues and oranges), deepening the shadows, same tone curve with crushed blacks, a bit of vignetter, some gradient filters and a bit of clarity and sharpening... But anyway, both methods probably take the same amount of time and get the same result. It's just cool to see how different brains would try different ways to do the same job. Cheers man!
Great video. I am not very fond of copying the styles of other photographers, I prefer to find my own style, but even so this video has a lot of useful information for those who want to create their own presets!
First time at the channel and loved it. Certain that I have browsed a lot into my learning and editing (LR-PS). Its a simple approach and educative. Subscribed and bell is on for future content. Looking forward. Cheers (sports photographer)
