First fished this fly last year in Utah. Kamas Lake Cutthroats LOVED it and it quickly became a favorite terrestrial. Glad to see a tying video form one of my favs. I can't wait to give a go on these Northeast trout.

Great looking fly that I will have to tie; seems a very broad spectrum floating attractor pattern. Thanks for recommendation CC about the macrame yarn substitution!

Nice fly. I like it and it looks fishy. Keep up the good video's. God Bless n Fish on!

Great tie. I tie these in a variety of foam colors (lower foam). One of the most productive is pink. Also, I coat the tinsel with UV resin to toughen it up. Make sure you use a heavy hook, helps keel the fly so it floats upright. A problem with some foam flies is they have a tendency to roll over, like the Fat Albert, that hook is too light.

This just gave me an epiphany. The hook 100% helps “keep” the fly “on the water” …. Nice.

For a second I almost thought you were gunna let that first hackle attempt slide because you kept going looool. Fantastic fly, as always.

I did this video a while back and while watching it today I literally had the same thought. I’m glad I did it over though that neck hackle has a pretty good taper to it once you wrap the whole thing!

Probably one of my favorite attractor fly for prospecting or dry dropper-ing. I found this fly to be an exceptional fly that gets lots of action. One of the things I noticed with stompers that have seen lots of fish action is that the hackle ALWAYS starts to fly off way before the fly integrity/fishability is completely compromised. I love your addition of super glue to the underside of the hackle. I don't tie my own flies (yet!) but will definitely be adding the glue to my bought stompers as well as the ones I tie in the future. I also really like the color pattern on the legs, do you find matching the leg band to the foam underbelly produces the best look, or have you experimented at all with different color combos? Finally, thanks for the videos, they are quite good and very informational. I feel that after watching a few I have a rudimentary understanding of fly construction!!

When i first tied this I did NOT like it! lol. It came out looking ok, but took the better part of an hour to tie. I've tied up a few more because hopper dropper is my very favorite way to fish, and I actually really like this fly! I tie it on a size 10 streamer hook (Daiichi 2220) I really enjoy this fly! I know its May, but i'm going out tomorrow and i'm going to try it with a dropper tomorrow morning =) Thank you Charlie!

My go to pattern for hopper/dropper fishing in small streams. Never tie it in black and purple. Purple doesn't catch fish. 😉

Didn’t have any moose, but died brown elk hock also looks pretty good on this pattern.

Hi Charlie why did you cut the hackle on the underside of the fly?

Do the naturals have only one set of color bands on their legs....or two?
    😂
