I’ve stayed at KOA campgrounds quite a bit over the years. Usually kinda on the expensive side but they always seem to have laundry facilities. Plus clean showers and bathrooms. Especially on longer trips it’s nice to be able to do laundry! For sure the more primitive state park and forest service campsites seem more like “camping” but it’s nice to have options…

I did 6 months RV'ing (24ft rv) towing a Smart for Two car from New Brunswick, Ca (Left Nov 18 2021) to Key West then following the US/Mex border to San Diego then up to British Columbia, Ca and cross country back home arriving May 19, 2022 (BTW you were at Big Bend, TX 2 or 3 weeks after our visit). We are still recovering and we were RV'ing with all modern amenities. I don't know how you can make it thru all this. Kudos to you both! PS I didn't even start editing my videos and we are in November 2022!!! Happy and safe travels.

Next time go to Cambridge and go across the Snake River into Oregon and go up to Hells Canyon that way. You might ask US if we know of things to see. You'll get way too many tips but ones like this are helpful because there are only so many roads up there and this is one that would have given you a nice ride and some good views and the bonus is that there is gas in the area so you won't run out on a long ride with your larger tanks.

Rich and Chris just a fyi Hwy 395 in North east Oregon to the John Day area is worth a visit. There is a road that is now paved between I 84 and 395 to a little town called Granite that is amazing. Sumpter on Hwy 26 is also worth checking out. I have ridden through there several times and there is always some thing new to see. I live in Lake Chelan WA witch is a beautiful place but you will need to reserve a place to stay months in advance. If you are headed for the North Cascade Highway check out Mazama on the way. It is a popular area so be ware of the crowds It is only open in the summer months.

Prices for camping has gotten crazy in some places, Even motorcycle campgrounds. Both on the bike and in the motorhome I have learned to avoid the beaten path and pay(usually) more reasonable rates. Don’t mind the resorts occasionally as long as they have the amenities to support their price.

One is connected directly to the battery so I can charge stuff, like my headsets, without the key being on. I also have wired a charging cable for my phone charges it while driving the bike. Your generating the electricity anyway so why not take advantage of it. Need more ports? Use a Y or three way cable.

I’m guessing this was recorded back in September, but anywho if you had turned south at New Meadows, ridden down to Cambridge and turned right at the one gas station. Continued to Oxbow dam, then turn right, and that would take you into the heart of “the canyon where Hell is”. It’s about 40 miles all the way to the end where the jet boats launch. It’s best to visit this area the end of April, or the first of May, because the grass on the side of the canyon is all green.

I design convenience stores; have done so for 30 years. A few of my customers have stores in the middle of no-where and they do put up those old fashioned "rest stop in 50 miles" signs with a listing of services to let you know that there is a place to rest, Some have tables inside the stores, not outside where they get torn up. I have tried getting them to install out-door tables. But I tell you, because of government regulations, some places can be a real pain to place out door dining facilities. Throw in ADA regs and restroom availability, it gets messy. So they just usually put those facilities inside the store.
