Amazing film! I was a sailor in my younger years and got to visit Christmas Island in Kiribati, Moorea, NZ, Tahiti, Raivavae, Tubuai and Easter Island (not Pitcairn!). You just brought back all those beautiful memories. I guess you were a true ‘RUclipsr’ even before RUclips was famous. I’m a London lover and I enjoy the way you tell your stories. My grandfather was British, he served in WWI and is buried in Greenford Park Cemetery. I was born in Venezuela and now live in Barcelona. Saludos desde Barcelona!
Thanks guys! Sorry for my lack of response. I have rather neglected Phoenix Knights because it was such a raw piece of work but I agree, I like it because of that. All my effort has been directed at the Pitcairn one which took me 3 years to make! I guess it's more popular because it has its own website and won some awards. Soon I will have some more films but they will be about London...and then it will be time for more travel I reckon! I really appreciate your comments. It's very kind. Don't forget to she the films if you like them. Maybe that will boost them up the line!
+Joolz Guides - Visit London When I look at your films about the South Pacific islands it's a great feeling as it remind me my travels to New Caledonia and some surrounding islands in 1985-86........The South Pacific is a magical place.......
MoBench25 It certainly is. There is something very mysterious about it. I must go back some day. New Caledonia. Perhaps that should be next on my list.
Really enjoy your personality , especially out travelling. I really enjoy your London videos also. I watched the strange museum with all the oddities earlier today. I watched your journey to the Island but got lost in conspiracy videos soon after.. haha. Anyway Just wanted to say I appreciate you and what you are doing. Thanks. All the best Josh
In 1995 I sailed a yacht from Bundaberg QLD to Greece via the Red Sea. This five month trip was my fist time on a yacht, this happened to be a 15.5 m reinforced concrete hull with a single mast, a cutter. Naturally we has a huge adventure, but it also gave me a strong appreciation for sailing. The Indian Ocean, Christmas Island, Cocos Island, Seychelles, Yemen and Egypt via The Red Sea was our proposed direction. Needless to say we had many interesting adventures along the way. Suffice it to say that I have a good understanding of what you went through. Eventually I wrote a book about it, but publishing is another thing. Perhaps one day.
Thanks for conserving the island our parents used to talk about. Their wonderful memories about it remained with them still. Most of these people have long gone onto the next life. Love to visit their roots someday. Thanks for the vids... without it I wouldn't even know what it is like there
I've really enjoyed watching your video travels. You're quite funny and I've learned a lot about islands that I never heard of before. Best of luck to you in all your future endeavors. Stay well.
Joolzybaby This film is amazing. I love the raw feel of it. Although you say this kind of travel is not your cup of tea, you seem to handle it quite well. You always seem upbeat. The content you are able to capture in this kind of environment is top notch. I cant wait to see your next adventure. Keep at it and I hope to see you on National Geographic!
Joolz Guides - London History Walks - Travel Films Is there anything we your loyal fans can do to help? How do we get NatGeo to notice your work? Can we threaten them or blackmail them somehow? Lol Maybe I should threaten to cancel the subscription (with the 80% discount code) to their magazine that I have. I’m sure the thought of losing $5.65 this year will shock them into action lol Anyway, let us know how we can help. I was going to send several thousand dollars through PayPal but that just seemed to be lazy. I want to really help in a more hands on approach and not offend you with crass behaviour like sending money instead of helping in a more meaningful way. Cheers mate and happy trails
I visited Canton Island January 1965 when it was an active USA British anti=submarine base. Had lunch, and refueled the DC6 of the RNZAF, We were heading to Hawaii from Fiji, thence finally to Cyprus to be with the UN. What a surprise to find someone, all those years later showing this on RUclips. thanks vey much. Bluey from NZ
Just found this today Joolz. Very well done. I've been passionate about the Pacific islands since my youth. I opened up google earth and traced your route. You're a lot tougher than you make out, sticking it out on that long of a voyage on a cramped and pitching boat that small. All the best!
You can help by sharing the video with absolutely everyone you can think of. I shared it with everyone in my contact list lol. That includes my bank my pharmacy and the airline reservation number lol Cheers mate and happy trails
Folks, this film isn't available on MOBILE DEVICES! You will need to watch it on a desktop because of restrictions placed by copyright owners. Out of my hands I'm afraid..Thanks to Carrie for pointing it out.
Oh Julian, you crack me up! i really wish you had your own show but maybe the producers would kill your humour. I hope you will make more videos, you are fantastic.
Thanks! Yes, do please subscribe. I have quite a few videos now and I'm better too! The one called Take Me To Pitcairn won awards and I've got lots of other travel ones too. Click onto my channel to see them! ruclips.net/user/joolzguides

I watched your film about your journey to Pitcairn Island. Was this trip before or after the Pitcairn trip? I was surprised to see the Southern Cross in another video. Felt certain it had made it's way to the bottom of the sea not long after the Pitcairn film.

How does this guys videos not have more views? Laid back, funny and interesting commentary. Do you have to be a massive prat to be a success on RUclips? Well done and the best of luck Joolz 😀
You're very kind. Yes, I think RUclips is mostly for kids playing around. Gamers doing videos about how to win on Minecraft, teenagers sayng how to look great and do your make-up. It's harder to succeed with more time consuming proper films. They take longer to make and youtube want you to upload something every week which means reducing the quality. Really I want to be on TV but it's a tough gig I guess!
Oh thanks. Done with a very basic camera but very interesting place. The hits are low because you can't watch it on mobile devices but I'm glad you liked it!
Dear Joolz, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Were the science folks happy with the film? PS. I was impressed that you managed to refrain from making any puns about getting crabs. Cheers!
I don't think they were all that happy about it actually. At leas, they didn't seem that pleased. I thought it was a good effort given the lack of equipment, crew or resources.
Joolz Guides - London History Walks - Travel Films If they asked you there (and paid you) to do a more traditional style documentary then I can see why they wouldn’t be happy. Yes, this was the first trip before break and then I rejoined the boat for Pitcairn. I met Felix in Samoa and he repositioned the boat to Tahiti to pick us up a month later but caught caught in terrible storms.
How is it you ended up on the same yacht in both this and the Pitcairn film? Were both films recorded in a single trip to the Pacific ? What's the timeline ?
It was part of a deal with the guy who chartered it. He said if I make him a film about the Phoenix Islands and their work then he would take me to Pitcairn for free. Joolzy Productions - Films by Julian McDonnell where's the film gone?
Carrie, I don't understand. It's still there as far as I can see. Maybe it's been restricted in some countries. Are you not able to see it?

Bon-Jovi Express? Nice.
Love your films, especially the old timey music and video effects
Glad this is still being watched!!

Thanks Matt, probably something to do with the PItcairn Website and the festivals it's been in. But I agree....this is good in its own way!

8:43... You big mouth 🤣🤣🤣
I am so happy that you sailed thru my hometown Pacific Ocean.
Really enjoy these, and how Julian seems to rub everyone up the wrong way.
Thanks! Yes...It's not intentional but I seem to annoy people! :) All good for the camera I guess!
Again, raw and pure. Beautiful filmmaking.

Oh thanks! It was very roughly made but some interesting places. My Pitcairn film is the sequel to this one and won awards!
16:40 she seems like a nice relaxed, non highly strung individual. I'm sure she is good natured and you wouldn't fall out with her within 5 mins!
That was pretty cool, Pitcairn was great too.. All the best for the next trip mate !!

Splendid again you crazy yet strangely alluring young man! Splendid Indeed
The Southern Cross - the Fawlty Towers of boat charters. Is she still afloat?
I think so but no longer doing these trips.
Your films are very cool lovely places as well
+Hylan Proctor Thanks! I'm so glad people are watching Phoenix Knights. It was a bit more rough around the edges than Take Me To Pitcairn but it was all done on my own so I'm still very proud of it.
Fun viewing a place where few ever set foot.Thank you.
+yumi mango Thanks Yumi. Yes, quite amazing places and so remote!
Love your vids !!!
Cheers!
Digging the Specials tune 'Ghost Town' amongst your adventures....
Aaah so Pitcairn came after this! Bet you were delighted to see the same boat again! lol
Excellent film.
Oh...glad people are watching this one
Wow I never knew you just this amazing
You should make more of these mate.
Thanks! Yes, those pacific Island ones are a bit tricky but I'm got quite a few other videos. Dod some about Italy too. You're probably right..Time for a new adventure.
You get a fist pump for the music 👊! Takes me back to my youth ✌😋💨🇬🇧👍
I watched your film about your journey to Pitcairn Island. Was this trip before or after the Pitcairn trip?
I was surprised to see the Southern Cross in another video. Felt certain it had made it's way to the bottom of the sea not long after the Pitcairn film.
ha ha! Yes, I tried to explain in the pitcairn film that I went on the boat before. This was the first trip, the one to Kiribati!
This is just brilliant! !!! WOW!
I thought the Pitcairn Island was suffering till I saw this film! My rule of thumb is, if I can't plug in a blow dryer...I'm not going! Feel free to use that bit of wisdom! Excellent documentary! 🤦😎😇

Yes
you're a bloody genius !!!
New drinking game: 1/2oz Jager, 1/2oz Red Bull, shoot back every time you hear Joolz mention how tall he is.
Not as often as other people feel the need to inform me that I'm tall!
LMAO! I never thought of it that way.hahahaha

Hi Julian !
Another cinematic triumph in my opinion.
Where the hell is your agent?
Indeed, and this was done with a crappy camera too.
Why would anyone give Jools a thumbs down?
Great video as always lol
Why do you say
“it’s been emotional” at the end?
You say that at the end of the
Pitcairn video as well.
Prepperjon I guess because it was emotional
Another great documentary! :-)
Great. I'm glad people are still watching this one.
Is this before or after the pitcairn journey
This was about one month before. I then switched with Felix thank God! He did the tricky part!
The Southern Cross again?
Yes, this was the first trip before break and then I rejoined the boat for Pitcairn. I met Felix in Samoa and he repositioned the boat to Tahiti to pick us up a month later but caught caught in terrible storms.
I just watched the Pitcairn documentary, is it the same boat and captain?
Yes indeed. Quite a complicated story!
I would to hear the story Julian
Fun London Guides - Julian McDonnell Films I would love to hear the story Julian
Hi. What you mean behind the scenes? It was certainly very eventful. I actually kept a "log book". Perhaps I should write it up.
Pitcairn island was pretty interesting this couldn't finish 😔
Excellent doc, as is your Pitcairn one.
Thanks. It's lovely to know people are watching these!
Amazing
How is it you ended up on the same yacht in both this and the Pitcairn film? Were both films recorded in a single trip to the Pacific ? What's the timeline ?
Why has this so few views compared to Pitcairn?
Are you ever available for a pint in London ???
Yes.....I expect so. Find me on facebook. I seem to be getting so many comments on youtube it's hard to go through them all!
SO, WHAT'S IT WITH THE "BON-JOVI EXPRESS"? 😂😂
Me and my cat are not sure we should be watching this!
How did you end up on the same boat (southern cross) twice?
It was part of a deal with the guy who chartered it. He said if I make him a film about the Phoenix Islands and their work then he would take me to Pitcairn for free. It was a tough time and the boat took a battering on the first trip. I went for a month break and was replaced by Felix who we later see in the Pitcairn film. he's been through hell on the boat to get it there but I didn't go into too many details.
wow. thanks dude. great films . you should make a film about the trials of the southern cross. ☺( if it still floats).
I'm not sure it still does! Actually, I think they might have done it up but they no longer go to Pitcairn.
Jools! Yo7re starting to live a life well lived! Quelle surprise!
Joolz

Good fun - I'm surprised prod cos and broadcasters haven't been after you for more, but there again you've probably got too much integrity, and they're too mean!
I get all the Blackadder and Monty Python references too.
I'm glad someone does!
You remind me of Borat honestly. Make more island videos!
I like Borat. Yes, I'd like to. They're quite hard to do and pretty expensive. I need an agent!
I appreciate the effort that making good, watchable videos takes and this is a personal observation, this guy is one hell loft a complainer. Travelling in wonderful parts of the world usually makes people euphoric, just be happy you have fulfilled excursions most of us can only dream of, hopefully this does not come over as me being mean, it is just my humble opinion
that was sound visit the mysterious river island next people go in the changing rooms and disappear
What happened?
Have you been influenced by Keith Floyd?
Oddly enough yes. He's great.
He was. I've seen pretty much everything he's done. I can see the influence.
How you managed your budget? Again by selling kites??
He took me for free in exchange for making the film. See also my other Take Me To Pitcairn which happened after this. It's much better and explains.
