A fantastic review (1st timer to your channel) and a great variation to other reviews whereby it comes from and engineering perspective. Great to understand the finer detail to help make what is already a positive choice to a confident choice. I am looking forward to visit the showroom to check out the GV80 150miles away! 😎
@@AutomotivePress that really was a fantastic review. Appreciate the perspective of an automotive engineer and not just some journalist with a personal bias.
Beautiful vehicle! Personally I don’t see the need for a V8 for the GV80, plenty of power with the V6 Premium model. Thanks for the review, excellent job !
You are super correct on that, and also just because someone is reviewing an automobile, you don't get the ability to live in an alternate reality where the earth is not on fire because of car exhaust, millions of tons of car exhaust, but you talk about maybe a person might desire a V8, or even a super charged engine, okay, well that's you that said that, indicating to your audience that you did not realize the connection at all, or you're just about the money.
Everything is great, considering this is their FIRST delve into the SUV market & deserve some slack on the software. In fact, I give them KUDOS on everything except ONE feature. That rear wiper arm needs to be moved to top of window & concealed under the spoiler. It has no business sitting so prominently on this exquisite vehicle & doesn't need to be there. Move the rear wiper arm, Genesis!
I subscribed!!!!!! I am wanting to purchase this car. A family member showed me this car in 2020. The next day we went to the dealership and I was blown away with their products. I am a fan of Genesis. I love the look(interior/exterior). No SNOB here😃Again, thank you👏
Very good review, but just one thing: you kept comparing this to a BMX X-7, the MB GLS, and the Lexus GX. Those SUV are full size. The more accurate comparisons are the BMW X-5, MB GLE,and the Lexus RX.
Car review suggestions ... Many reviews of this car available ... you're an automotive engineer... to add more valuable review content I would suggest the following to you. Do a night review of all interior & exterior lighting.... half my driving time is at night. Do a under body review on a hoist showing suspension good n bad points. Then you would be ahead of all others in offering a complete extensive review. One person does offer a night review & one does offer an under body review but No one does it as a complete package. I live in Australia & have ordered a GV 80 luxury pack with a 3.6 turbo V6. It arrives in October. It has rear seat screens & a center console as a 6 x seater. The screens do not accept dvd's & one has to download entertainment. That is a shortcoming for me. Also no-one comments that there is no spare wheel. Rather a repair kit included. I travel large distances & this was very nearly a deal breaker but went ahead anyway as a great new SUV Hope these suggestions help as being a professional trained in vehicles I did listen intently Thank you Gary from Australia....
11:40 "...3.5L is naturally aspirated...." Uh, my GV80 3.5 TT has twin turbochargers (as does my G80). Agree about the infotainment system ergonomics and the small buglets. But I still love my cars.
As an engineer, can I ask for your educated opinion on whether I should be concerned about the recent issues with Kia and Hyundai vehicles catching fire? I haven’t heard of the Genesis models in North America burning up, but...
It's still speculative so it's hard to root cause that at this point. Actually, cars catching fire is more common than you think, so they have to first investigate and figure out the reason. If the reason is a design flaw, then yes it could be a concern
My new GV80 Prestige was delivered last week. Excellent vehicle! I have noticed one thing though that I can’t figure out: between 50-60 km/h there is a noticeable buffeting, which goes away again at speeds over 60 km/h. It seems to come from the side mirrors. Has this been noticed by anybody else?
@@AutomotivePress No, I don’t have crossbars on the roof. And the buffeting sound is definitely coming from either the A-frame or the mirrors. I have only driven with all windows up so far; I should see what happens with driver and/or front pax window open.
@@jakesdekker7503 All depends on the wind condition at the time, if there is a lot of side winds coming at the vehicle, it could get noisy. Maybe drive for a while longer and see if it stays that way....
I’ve had the GV80 for 3 months now, and I am super happy with it. I found out the buffeting sound happens only when I drive on certain pavement surfaces. When the road surface is smooth it is more noticeable, but I hardly notice it anymore. I think it may be how the wheels tread on the road. But what a magnificent vehicle this is! I had a BMW 5 series before and honestly I will take the GV80 any day over that.
Actually, the Genesis has been as reliable as Toyota/Lexus in general, according to the latest JD Power surveys. The GV80 is too new, though, to make that judgement yet.
I have watched a few different reviews for the GV80 and my opinion this video is the best.

This was excellent! Really appreciated the opportunity to hear an engineer's perspective. Thanks!!
Thank you for your kind words!
Wow how does this only have 2xx views?! Great job.
Thank you so much!
You have given the best critique of the GV80 that I have heard. I really appreciate your intelligent input. Excellent presentation. Thank you.

Interesting review. I love my 2016 Genesis as well as my 2020 Santa Fe Limited 2.0 T. This company simply has started making some great cars!
Yes Genesis is becoming a world class brand

Good work . . .Well presented. Subbed.
Thank you so much!
That Blue is just beautiful. My goodness. Not a SUV person, so I'm waiting to see the new G90 and the G80 Sport.
Love the review of this car. You did a FANTASTIC job👏👏👏

I don’t understand people who buy luxury vehicles and then want a ‘sport’ package so it rides like a slammed civic.
