Guess that I'm not the only one that liked that. Yeah, he can add those tidbits of information that I should have known decades ago anytime that he wants. Probably an opportune time to do a show and tell on beans.
I'm a 76 year old man who loves watching your broadcasts. I am impressed by the way U treat all your family, Jim, and especially your father. Thank you and keep up the great work you do.
U definitely are 100% correct with ur statement. It’s also awesome how he has his son out there working along side with him and running those $100,000’s of thousands of dollars equipment. Good on him u don’t see that now again. Most kids have their phone up their ass!!!!
Man you have it so much easier changing cycle sections than when i learned we had rivet's to grind and punch out on every section that's a good improvement
Out away from the barn we had a drill that looked like a hand cake mixer to drill the old rivet then hammer and buck the replacement rivet. Yep, I’m almost older than dirt.
Hearing your old man talk about the milk line in the corn cobbs was some'n special for me. I have an admiration of listening to people that know what they're doing and learning from them. Its a generation slowly being lost.
I can’t believe you bought this whole freaking set. A real farm with real farmers & a family just to have this tv show. Real dedication! Millions upon millions spent for this show. Love it!
Good to See everyone out prepping for harvest. Good lesson on corn maturity from Dad. I know local dairy guys just started chopping up here in the Pacific Northwest
Didn't realize I had been watching this channel as long as I have. But seeing Onyx grow up is a giveaway! Cool to see the team all together, including Jim.
Zach ran a set of keys for truck, toolbox etc thru my combine after clean out some black night shade off the auger. When I fired it up I heard them hit the cylinder and few seconds later the chopper. Man I was bummed when I had to walk home that night. Seen the HARD AF in the fridge love that Drinking Bros podcast!!!!
Keep up the excellent work. Season is right around the corner. How cool has it gotten up there so far this year? Texas is smoldering hot still. It hasn’t gotten the memo yet. Thanks Zach for making all these videos for us. I swear if u could get my paralyzed ass up into a tractor; I’d honestly work for free for as long as u needed me. I was pretty useless to the Marines but thanks again Zach. Love the videos and I’m not even a farmer or do anything like u do on this channel. Ur wittiness keeps me coming back
My only comment when pulling off the inspection cover, my father would have a bird if he saw you break and extract the bolt completely as opposed to breaking them all first and then extracting them. Such a little detail, but when you’re young and impressionable it stays with you their whole life . Great video
Great wisdom from dad on the corn yield, great to see Jim onboard again with that chuckle of his... the racoon thing almost made me fall off the couch... lol good to see your dry humor vids coming out on a regular basis...
Great explanation on the corn moisture.. down here by Sioux Falls we have had no rain for 14 days at least and mid 80's temps. The locals are just starting beans.
Mr Johnson thank you for teaching us about the black layer and the development of the Corn 🌽. I appreciate it. Thank you for going on camera. You can’t allow Jim to outshine you 😏‼️ God Bless you with the proper conditions and a safe event free Harvest. ❤️🖖🏼🇺🇸
The beginning of this video was really awesome hearing you an your dad explain what it was exactly you guys are looking for in the corn and everything. It's an awesome thing to learn personally!
@2:38- where your dad explained how mature the corn is, was cool. Please keep up some of these things in your videos. Helps the city folk, like myself, understand what’s going on. 👍 love the videos. Cheers
Thanks for another great video Zack and Becky on editing and Dad and Jim and onyx. Got everyone working today. It was an interesting video and enjoyable to watch. And of course the two dogs, almost forgot them. Changing sickle bars on a bean header is a long and tedious task for sure , been there done that myself many times. Everyone was pitching in so the job got done in good time. Now is the time to check everything over before actually using the combine in the field. Good to see Jim helping out. He is looking good. Seems to have dropped some weight. Good for you Jim. Getting the spray trailer winterized is important to prevent water from freezing in the winter. RV antifreeze is the best to use. Dad did a great job with that. Another job done. Way to go Nate, dad. Looks like things are coming together for harvest season bring just around the corner. Way to go everyone. Thanks for the explanation on how the ears of corn get ready to harvest. Dad did a great job on that. Thanks for doing that Nate. You all take care and be safe. The Iowa farm boy. Steve. 😊😊👍✅🙏💕🇺🇸🇺🇸
Thanks for taking us along. And please cherish every minute you get to spend working with your Dad. First, because he seem like just the nicest guy, and second, because Dads don't last forever. Someday you will miss him every day.
I did all the sections on my 35ft macdon this year before harvest, was a full day job for just me doing it. But the header cut so much better this year. Went with course sections instead of fine and they last way longer in wheat, durum, peas, lentils and canola than the fine sections
Really enjoyed that educational bit from your father. I’d love to see more of that content, with more outside footage of the machines in the field this fall.
One year when i was around 17 i was picking up swaths and i heard a bunch of banging in the old 1660, thought i picked up a rock bit turned out that i picked up a gooseneck pry bar that had fallen off of the tractor when dad went over the opening swath from out old versatile swather when he was swathing with our old 30ft pull type swather. The gooseneck was curved the same as the rotor and it came out the back of the combine and did no damage at all. Got lucky on that one. Since then we have gone all straight cut and have upgraded a pretty fair amount to a 7120 case and a 2188 case but we have picked up a fair amount more acres since then as well.
I would love to come help out for harvest. I only have a small farm less than 10 acres so honestly would love the opportunity to run a big combine and big high horse tractors instead of the tractors I have that are low horse, but still get the job done. Very thankful for them! Hope y’all are having a great day! I live in Arkansas
Zach, it would be really interesting to have a brief explanation of the differences between the 9870 and the S-series and how you chose the models you have. Great videos!
Really enjoyed hearing more from your dad than just a few words that we normally see. Is there any plans to maybe give him a camera a couple times this harvest to get his perspective?
Standing in front of the bean header saying to yourself, “I probably shouldn’t jump up there”. I’m older than you. I’ve learned to listen to that little voice instead of the little voice that follows, “Aw it’ll be alright “. Nothing good comes from listening to that second little voice! That’s when I’ve most often hurt myself. 😂

I use to like watching this channel also for the same reasons and was happy that I found a channel that focused on farming that left out swearing so my grandkids can watch with me, but I will have to stop watching now. Yes, I’m sure they hear it at school, but I also don’t have to let them watch shows that now include swear words and use God’s name in vain. I’m sure that appeals to some of your audience members, but for me, no thanks.

Ah the old fix the draper before harvest. That reminds me, I should probably do something to the draper we've had sitting outside for 3 years cos we had no crop to harvest... the knives are probably rusted through on that thing.
Great video. Great to see your family coming together to prepare for harvest. Great to see Jim & Nate. Thank you Nate for the explanation on what you're looking for on corn.

I’d listen to just a podcast episode of him explaining different things or giving life stories

Yup real men changed rivets 😊. 60’s and 70’s technology was a pain in more ways than one.
We used a big hammer and a chisel. I hated changing sections as I would usually smash my hand once a day.
Yes was thinking the same thing. Was a pain in the ass

I'm really glad Jim is back. He's such a talented farm hand. :)
FYI: I've had ball valves freeze and break in the space around the ball. I started leaving them 3/4 open when draining and storing.
I second this, did sprinkler blow outs for a few years & it was obvious when ball valves were left wide open instead of at 45*
sounds painful
