i'm really on the fence, im gettin a big pay check and id love to invest into a long term mic im considering either the NT1 or tlm103, coming from an AT2020 i know the logical step up would be the rode but this is one time thing i dont see myself having the potential to get another mic in a very very long time, and only thing i'm bit scared off is the harshness of the neumann ( ona side note i do want bright vocals) so anyway what would you suggest if you were in my position ?

If you're making money with the microphone and you can afford it I would say go with The Neumann, unless you have a problem with siblings because that Mike is a little bit on the bright side so for somebody with a sibilant voice that may or may not be an issue but it's a darn good sounding microphone and you definitely get that Neumann sound which is overall great for speech they just have a nice smooth mid-range and sound great on most people
The NT1 fourth generation 5th generation or signature series I mean there a nice sounding microphone that can give you a similar a sound, if your room is not treated it it'll probably be a little bit better at rejecting reverb than the Neumann, if you listen really hard but they good to the monitors or really good headphones you'll probably be able to pick out a few more flaws if you're really listening hard. It's probably going to give you about the same quality as the microphone you already have but each one will sound a little different I mean are professional voice actors out there who start off with the auto-technica and there's some people out there starting off with the rodes , they're both very good for the money
I think it really boils down to what are you doing with it so if you're making money off the mic it would be nice to get the best one you can or if you're just like a person who absolutely loves microphones and you really want that neuman sure go for it.
If you just want a microphone that's going to make you sound nice and you're making money off of it either the audio technica or the NT1 would be fine for most people. But if you really want to or really need to sound as good as possible I would consider the Neumann, and if worse comes to worst you can probably always sell it for almost what you paid for it, all the reason I don't recommend buying used is I'm always worried I might get a fake but if I knew I was getting a real copy I would have no problem buying a used microphone I mean most of them will last for 20 30 40 years if you take care of them yeah it's hard to tell somebody what to do with their money but hopefully that advice helps

@@dannylightning-audio-reviews thanks i appreciate you for taking the time to write a detailed response, i will probably end up getting the neumann as i do want something that will make me sound as good as possible this is mainly for my own vocals and im very passionate about my craft i'd like to make the absolute best music im able to, both mics would probably do just that but just for that tiny extra push ill go with the tlm103 + as u said if taken care off this could last me for a very long time so should be good as a one and done buy, again thanks for the insight! and great video

The TLM 103 it's been an industry standard for home recording studios, it's a workhorse it's just known to do what it's supposed to do and do it very well, Lauten audio also make some crazy good microphones for around the same price that most people do think sound a little better but they're kind of like a small mom and pop shop I'd assume they're probably just as reliable but can't guarantee it, but they make some exceptionally good sounding microphones for singing in the $600 to $1,200ish price range, I think most of their microphones should probably cost a little more than they do when it comes to sound quality compared to some other companies but if you get the Neumann you probably don't have much to worry about as far as reliability. And those things do sound super good if you're recording in a nice sound treated room that doesn't reverberate like crazy.

Interesting to see the comparison. I feel like the NT1 is somewhat of a ceiling before you need to invest in real sound treatment but the Lauten sneaks in there to save the day.

Hey thanks for checking out the video, Neumann's they really have that buttery mid-range, they kind of bring out the frequencies in speech that will help your recording stand out if there's music behind your voice over it just kind of helps it set a little more on top so it doesn't sound very behind the music. I think the Lauten is a super cool microphone, I believe it's supposed to be a condenser version of the estimate 7M7B but give you a little more detailed sound, it picks up the frequencies a little bit different but it's a very high quality microphone, The NT1, you can't beat it for the money. It just has a nice well-round sound, there's actually a lot of professional voice actors using those that can't afford something better and a lot of them do well with it and when you look at the price you really can't beat that thing I mean if you can't afford a more expensive microphone I think that thing is quite good of course everybody's voice and room acoustics are different so you do have that but I think most people would love any of those microphones. Just need to figure out how to purchase every microphone ever made lol. Anyways have a great day and thanks for checking out my video

You're welcome, I think a lot of companies have realized hey content creation is getting pretty big so we should start making some affordable items that are actually nice. For a while you basically just had junk or things that cost a lot of money, and then there was the rare gem in between but a lot of these companies are starting to put out nice quality stuff that's actually somewhat affordable which Great I mean I remember when the best webcam you could get was a Logitech c920 and then they decided to stop putting the nice glass lens in there and replaced it with a crappy plastic one, charge the same price and didn't tell anybody. And then the one webcam that used to be decent was no longer good. Now there's a bunch of new webcam technology coming out which is cool, a lot of USB and XLR microphones are coming out recently, there's a lot of really nice free or cheap audio plugins out there these days and some of those are starting to be directed towards content creation as well which is cool. But I think the budget and affordable content creation gear is just going to keep getting better from here on out. At least I hope so.
