Nice! Congrats. From a former resident of S. Oregon. I know the dedication this took. I’m now too old so I really enjoyed you taking me along. Now live in the Cascade Locks area. This helps people know that most of Oregon is not a waist land like Portland. 👍 Salute 🫡
Dang. You moved from the desert to the rainforest! A lot of big cities have big problems. Portland took a hard fall in the past 6 years, it’ll come back.
Congratulations! I am thrilled for you! I have been following your journey on various forums (Facebook, etc) from the day you drew the raffle tag. When I saw the video of the buck from last week, I felt that buck needed a serious look. I wanted to say it was north of 200" but didn't want to persuade you to punch your tag by throwing out a score estimate. Your buck exceeded even what I thought it might score. A true beast for Oregon. Great work! It is very cool you contacted the game warden and he was able to witness the harvest.
Thanks I spent 2 days looking over footage of the buck before I made up my mind. I figured I would have a pretty hard time finding something bigger. I hope you continue to follow we have several more hunts to come this year
@@stevegreen5129 I sure don't, but his prior video (S1 E3) where his buck was first shown, he had "What do you think these Bucks will score"?" written across the screen.
Amazing you found a buck that size in Oregon. Back in the late 50's and 60's, you could hunt high, remote areas and see bucks of this size in Eastern Oregon very easily BEFORE season opened. In those same areas today you're lucky to spot a fork horn. Over hunting due to excessive deer tags decimated the mule deer heard in Eastern Oregon into the 70's and it has NEVER gotten back to those record mulies SINCE. The same thing is happening in Michigan. Between excessive tags being issued for YEARS now; disease, and poaching ... seeing a fork horn on public property is like seeing a MIRACLE.
@@GettingToHeaven we have some nice bucks here probably the best big buck hunting in the US right now. They are here see them this big every year. But not like it use to be.
@gettingtoheaven Oregon has good bucks in many units across Oregon, I personally know several guys whom have bagged consistent 170 plus bucks on OTC Tags. One of which is a crazy non typical 18x19 point buck. Not a typo. I’ve had the pleasure hunting in some of eastern Oregon “premier” units with success but not 200”+ However there are indeed many 200+ in Oregon it’s all about getting off the road and putting in the effort to find these bucks. They’re 200+ for a reason they aren’t mythical creatures, but masters of their domain. The most recent mass mule deer loss I believe was the winter of 92 I remember coyote hunting Christmas break in the steens and seeing mass herds of deer trying to keep warm. Seeing hundreds of deer in a small canyon below some rim rock coyotes howling like crazy over the excitement of a frozen deer carcass. But seeing all the monster bucks huddling around each was truly awe inspiring. That was 30 years ago… whether u believe MO (management objectives) / deer populations or not mule deer populations on many units are on the rise. Personally I would love to see 4pt+ only tags for several units such as the steens come back. Not that my opinion matters to ODFW. But I think that would certainly increase the overall quality of deer, but over time quantity as well.
Congratulations. I’ve been following you on this quest and glad you took that stud. You put the time and dedication into it. Having the game warden there too must’ve been exciting for him as well. Well done.
Way to put in the work and make the most of the special opportunity! I was surprised to see the pass on him during on the previous encounter; glad to see he was everything he looked and more! Congrats and thanks for sharing!
What an absolute giant! Congratulations on a buck of a lifetime! It’s sad that even tho we catch things on video the rumors still fly from jealous and ignorant people lol I had shot a bull in 2019 with my 6 year old son at my feet and the bull came into 20 yards my wife had me at full draw with the bull and my son all in the same frame and people still accused me of using a rifle haha jealousy sure makes some folks miserable! Thanks to the officer for being a part of it that is really cool to have such a good relationship with enforcement… best of luck on future hunts gents
Wow what a buck! Glad you reconsidered and went after him! He def looked like a Stud from yer first video when you passed him. How wide did he end up measuring?
Yes I could have hunted trout creek I scouted it pretty hard and was less than impressed with what is there. So I went elsewhere. Trout creek has gone down hill not many big bucks there anymore.
Congrats on a fine buck. But please do not call these tags Governor's, the present and past liberal governors would be happy if no hunting is allowed at all.
@@peterdallman4550meh, he’s got a valid point. The political atmosphere in the state of Oregon is trash, due to the likes of Portland and Eugene. The unfortunate truth is that if those controlling the state really had their way, this video wouldn’t be up for us to watch. Yes, hunting and conservation have political connotations, so it’s a very valid part of the conversation.
@ I would whole heartedly agree that especially the political leadership in Portland has been poor in handling the many issues Portland has faced over the past 6 years. I don’t live there, but go there often enough. I did live in Portland from 1980-1995 and live in the eastern central gorge, so I’m Also well aware that not all of Portlands problems are the fault of Portland. The homeless crisis for one. Every year as far back as 1980 the local news would do stories a few times a year from the Greyhound station interviewing people coming off buses. Thousand of homeless people were given one way bus tickets to Portland from cities like Salt Lake, Boise, even mid-west cities with the promise of better social services care. Portland became overrun with other cities homeless, on top of their own. Many other problems were of their own doing, decriminalizing hard drugs for one. But.. back to the topic. People shouldn’t get triggered or butt hurt because a certain tag for a certain unit is called a “governor’s tag”. It’s just a name. I’d have no problem calling it the Gov McCall tag.

I tip my hat to you. You set out on a 200 plus type deer and you got it done, congrats!!

Well I'm just like you but I will take care of my deer before I put a tape on it.
Well, we had to wait for the photographer to get there and it was only about 55°

You get that officially scored yet?
Very Nice. Congrats. What were you shooting?
Kill the music. It's too loud for the volume you're talking at.
Psalm 37:13 ...............Truth! Anyone else see it as 3 against 1?

Thanks self guided and I spent$51.50 on raffle tickets
Great buck! Was it even dead before you got the tape on it?!
Had to wait on the crew to get there before we started cutting on it
What unit?
EVERY eastern Oregon unit has bucks like that, SOME BIGGER. your quest is to find them.
What was the shot distance and caliber used?
230 yards. 308 win 150gr SST Superformance. Heart shot with complete past through. Howa superlite rifle
How did you buy the raffle tickets
Online at ODFW
with money
why does everyone think music in the background is a good idea..
No safety orange requirement in Oregon?
No orange required in most western states. It's a stupid rule anyway.
He was literally the only guy in the state allowed to hunt at that time... Governor's Tag
Not for adults. Youth hunters, yes.
No and orange has no proof to reduce hunting accidents out west
what gun do u use
Golf
Is this a hunt on the trout creek mountains?
Yes I could have hunted trout creek I scouted it pretty hard and was less than impressed with what is there. So I went elsewhere. Trout creek has gone down hill not many big bucks there anymore.
Gratulations, but the music sucks.
Shame on you all Measuring that buck before you even field dress it. It’s about the horns not the hunt
It was 45 F and we waited on the photographer for about 10 min
But thanks for your imput next time I won’t master photograph and bone out my deer in less than an hour
