Gel works as well and lasts longer if interested in that method. You can also pretreat the cork using a clear coat seal. This also helps prevent evaporation
I use plastic wrap around the bottom of the cork and trim off the excess--it TOTALLY stops the evaporation of water and should work for alcohol too...! I've got bottles just filled with food-colored water that have lasted for many years.
Tips if people want long lasting potions that don't damage or evaporate. Use rubber corks and use alcohol. Distilled water with glycerin is ok but don't last as long.
i would like to use alcohol and glicerine but i'm afraid i can't bring it with me on a plane. Do you have a suggestion to avoid alcohol? or maybe just put a tiny part?
@@ElfadeiBoschi Well in your case just use the Distilled water, glycerin and rubber corks. Careful not to melt/burn the rubber corks with the hot wax. When you use glycerin start off with a teaspoon. If you want more swirl add more in teaspoon amounts. But if you put too much it will be too heavy and the swirl won't last very long. Hope that helps..
@@GhostlyWispers72 thanks for your kind answer! The glicerine and water won’t harbor bacteria? And change the color or water over time? Oh I use glass bottles with a screw in aluminium so I don’t think there is an issue with the cap!
@@ElfadeiBoschi No bacteria should grow as long as you don't leave it near the window all the time. Just to be safe you could put a drop or two of alcohol in each.
Awesome video! I'm trying it like you, but with mine you still see very clearly that it is cotton, it's still very white shining through. I don't know if I need to use more color or glitter.
I would use more of the color first and then more glitter. Also, I would really stuff the cotton balls down in there until you can’t fit anymore. I found if I didn’t pack it in really well they just looked fake.
Hi there! I know this is a bit of an older video now, but i had a question, that hopefully someone if not you could help me with. I’ve made a few small potions myself, using water (that I tint using water colour paint) and micropowder. Now, of course the powder in time falls to the bottom, but that’s not much of a bother, as usually a shake can fix that.. however, I find that over time the actual water seems to… disappear? There’s no proof of it leaking anywhere, and I even super glue the corks in, so I’m completely lost! … :(
It might just be evaporating? I packed mine away after Halloween but the one on my desk still seems to have water in it. Maybe the cotton helps with that?
Hey! Are you sealing the tops of the corks? Liquids are able to evaporate through corks. You can prevent this by doing pretty much any sort of sealing method; resin, wax and clear nail polish are a few that will work fine. Hope that helps!
Hmmm. I’m surprised I didn’t have a photo of it in here. I’m pretty sure that there’s a photo on the blog. I tried to make it look like fire so it’s a mix of orange, yellow and red. It looked really cool.
It holds things in place and keeps the glitter from sinking. I pulled these out this year and they’re fine. At some point they might get moldy, but I imagine the water might evaporate first?
i’m glad i found this video, i was looking for a base alternative to rubbing alcohol cause it was ruining my corks!
Glad you found it too!

Thanks for this tutorial! I was really struggling on how to do something like this for my daughter’s costume. We tried this and it came out so well!
Oh good! I’m so glad!

How well do the cotton balls hold up? Love the look, but do they soggy & sink? thanks for the tutorials.
These turned out so good! Thank u for the tutorial
If she uses hair gel clear it will last longer than the water because the water will get slimy after time and or evaporate
Amazing potions!!! Im thinking of trying it with the cottonballs, cause all my glitter keeps sinking to the bottom!! Why do you prefer cotton?
It makes it look interesting in the bottle, like Smokey or wavy and it helps hold the glitter in place. 😉
Awesome, thank you. I was looking for an easy way to make this potions. ❤
These are so cool. Very nice job!!!!
Thanks!

@@SugarMapleFarmhouse thank you! I made a few now and some look rally great. I feel like it looks better the darker the potion is.
I'm so glad you love them now!@@rayofmystery
Can you use regular glitter or does it need to be cocktail glitter ?

@@alaughingfreak867 I used glue.
Water evaporates over time. A simple fix, some people use gel instead of water.
@@SeductiveSuicideMusicianBand what do you mean by gel?
U mentioned a dragon's breathe potion do you have a video I would love to see how it turned out

@@SugarMapleFarmhouse cool beans let me go on the blog!!!
Could you explain to me how I find the labels..
There is a free PDF on the blog.
I noticed a green potion...Can you tell me how to make that one?
Is it the Polyjuice? If so I just used green and yellow food coloring with green and gold glitter.
If I make the contents inside the bottle now will they last for another 6 months still looking the same?
As far as I know. My daughter has one in her room and we made them 9ish months ago?
What is the reason for the cotton? Wouldn’t it get moldy after a while?

I want to make a potion
Does anybody know if there's anything else I can use besides food coloring?😅
If you don’t want artificial you can try the natural food coloring options out there.
Does the glitter not sink to the bottom?
Not so far. The cotton helps to hold it in place and if you really pack it in like I suggest, there isn't much of a place for it to go.
