I have an idea with the giant spider prop You get the fake spider web stuff from the store and get a fake plastic skeleton and wrap the skeleton with web and pose it and put it in the giant web P.s. I did something like this
I don't understand why you need a hole in the cover. If your magnets are strong enough they will work through the cardboard cover. To make the spooky automatic, you could add a foil pressure switch to the inside cover of the book. That way the weight of the bottle would connect the power to the motor and turn it on without needing to switch it on.
I did a edible version of this for my kids birthday party. You get your hands on some butterfly pea flower tea and edible luster dust. I steeped the tea to make a beautiful blue color. I then made vials with instant lemonade powder with a little bit of luster dust mixed in (I called it fairy powder). The kids put the blue liquid in their flasks, and then added the lemonade powder and stirred. The deep blue turns purple from the lemonade acidity and also turns swirly from the luster dust. The end result was a basic lemonade for the kids to drink that just looked magical. I added some Hibiscus flavoring to add some exoticness to the flavor and another step, but you could end it there.
I had a fantasy video game themed birthday party this past summer and I had drinkable glitter potions! I used edible glitter from Brew Glitter and they were great! A little goes a long way. Friend of mine is great at making drinks and he used a mix of blue and red Brew Glitter to make a concoction he dubbed "Unicorn Tears". This is a really neat way to have a magical glitter potion for a prop! Thanks for sharing this!
You could add some led lights and a magnetic switch to the base unit and if you use tissue paper as a diffuser you can get rid of the food coloring. You can also use one of those remote control led lights that change color, really dress it up.
OMG I've been trying to figure out a way to do this for my Hocus Pocus Life potion to add with my Black Flame candle. THANK YOU!!! Now I just need the supplies
Omgosh that is soo cool! I'm definitely going to have to make one this week!!! You guys have totally come up with the most awesome Halloween props this year!!! 👏
I am currently making this project and let meeeee teeelllll youuuu Unless your are using bigger wires, you don’t need the wire connectors (use electrical tape). You will also need to remove some of the sheathing from the wires. Love this project but def don’t need the ports.😅 and use the tweezer tools to help with removing the sheathing. 👍🏼
For sure! The wire connectors are just less intimidating for people who have never worked with wires. Definitely better off either soldering with a heat shrink wrap or just doing a twist with tape like you said. 🤘🏼😄 Glad you’re building it!!
Love this one! I have a bunch of empty spell books that just sit there. I bet I can make a setup that's stacked with several "potions"! Thank you for another great video!
I was literally making potions like this yesterday. I have everything except the motors. So happy my potions will be spinning on their own as fast as amazon can ship them.
@@WickedMakers Though, mine are tasty cocktails and only use edible ingredients. Food sparkles instead of mica. I will need to make sure the magnet I drop into the potion is food safe.
You guys never fail to impress me. This is so wicked easy. I can’t believe this, I have one similar that I bought yrs ago, and it stopped working a month after I bought it. But now, thanks to ya’ll, I can fix it and amaze my friends with it.
2 things … I make potion cocktails for Halloween parties. Edible dust in the drink and a small piece of dry ice to keep it bubbling! Second, I made a storm bottle but it’s not great so please make that!!! I used a cork with attached fairy lights and poly fil I had colored with grey streaks. It’s a storm cloud in a bottle. I wish the lights would flicker though
If the fairy lights are plug in, you can attach a 'fluorescent starter' to an extension cord. It gives off a flickering effect on any light plugged into it. I did this on a couple of random strands inside the smoldering fire for my wicked makers witch cauldron. It looks great and the fluorescent starters are like 2 for $5 on amazon.

I love it! Will have to give this a try. I really appreciate the planning to make sure this is doable by the average person. So many props require specialized tools, paints, and materials making it impossible or intimidating to recreate.
THANK YOU! I've been trying to make a bottle like this but couldn't figure out what the materials were. great tutorial and I LOVE the book/magnet technique!
Love this idea. I add edible lustre dusts and edible glitter to my kids berry cordials… they love it . I change out the dust and glitters colours depending on event or season. A little shake or swirl and voilà sparkly juice.
This came at the best time....just yesterday I was wondering how to make something like this. THANKS, for doing all the thinking for me...lol....OH, and I will cut the circle first and apply tissue after...lol. Many thanks for all the fantastic inspiration! A joy to watch and learn a lot!
I've been wanting to make potions for a while, and I've brainstorming how to do something like this but your method is super smart! I gotta make at least one of these.
Totally going to make some sensory potion bottles now! Btw, clear school glue is cheap and easily available and also can be used to thicken water for sensory bottles.
Nice! Pure genius to even think of wanting a swirling potion bottle in the first place, let alone the mechanics behind it. (and thank you for making them simple and with parts easily and inexpensively accessible to all of us!). :D
This is excellent, but i would advise putting a second magnet on the other side of the quarter (flipped to present an opposite polarity to the first magnet) so as to balance out the quarter. Otherwise you have an unbalanced load which will make the motor spindle/bearings wear unevenly over time. It'll make it much less noisy if it's well balanced as well!
I have been looking for something like this for so long… This is freaking awesome. I love that you could make this and swap out bottles. Also, I’m usually bothered when someone destroys a book to make a project, but… not this time. You’re good.
I've made this one and I'm finalizing the artistic touches on the book. One issue I had was that my hot glue did not hold up on the inside the bottle (I used a beaker from a craft store) and dissolved? Anyone else having this issue? I took Peppy the Clown's advice below and ordered some stirring bars, so maybe that will help. For those curious, my liquid needed about a tablespoon of mica powder for the desired affect and it is around 6 oz to maybe 8 oz at most. Love the channel and my wife and I are trying to do some of the DIY stuff that you showcase!
You can also put your cut out leather piece back in place and then tint the edges in the same brown coloring to hide the seams. The magnet will still work with the leather in place.
I don't understand why they cut the hole in the first place. As far as I can see, all you really need is some sort of indication where the spinning magnet is so that you can center your potion properly. Am I missing something?
This is amazing. I saw a prop that used the same mechanic in your crystal ball example yesterday, but the aesthetic just wasn't exactly what I was looking for so I passed it up, but I loved the swirly green look. A potion bottle on top of a weathered book is much more my style, and honestly something I'd keep out all year as just a generic apothecary/wizard decor since nerd.
Absolutely amazing! I've been try to figure out how to make bottle contents to swirl around. Captured souls of the undead etc. Thank you for making it so easy, I wondered if the motor would get hot because I found something like that in something once that felt really warm and thought it was defective or something.
I'm trying out the Cauldron u guys made with adding work. It look awesome so far. These ideas u guys have are amazing. Good work on the Halloween 🎃 stuff.
Love the knowledge ! I just bought the crystal ball prop and was trying to figure it out .. Ba bam ! There you are ! Love u guys ! You make it soo easy .. magick potions bottles for all !
good tip too on why to use the glycerin/water mix instead of rubbing alcohol, is that cork stoppers absorbing the rubbing alcohol could become a passive combustible, like linseed oil on rags.
I was in England a while ago and my friends bought some magic potion drinks in the shambles that looked like this but we’re consumable. They were awesome.
The way the stirring in the crystal ball works is essentially identical to magnetic stirrers that are used in chemistry labs. You could also opt to buy a cheap pre-made magnetic stir bar/pill and use a (DIY) magnetic stirrer. A magnetic stirrer can be made quite easily with an old PC fan as well, as hit has a nice flat spinning hub at the center to which you can glue two magnets (needed for the stir bar/pill).
Ive been looking for a simple way to do this for a long time. I wanted to replicate the swirling tank of evil green goo off of the movie "Prince of Darkness". I tried to make an impeller type mechanism that goes on top, but it didn't work. This is genius. I had even considered buying a cheap lab stirring unit.
This is so cool! You guys are such an inspiration for people like me who are missing the creative gene. I just ordered all the stuff to make the floating ghost girl using your Amazon links so wish me luck and thanks again so much for all you do to inspire the rest of us! 🥰
OMG.. i made these potions for my wife and a few people.. you guys just took it to a whole new level! going to do this for my wife shes going to love it!
For the liquid i would use Tonic water - the tonic water would glow under black light for some extra 'magic' ! you can connect up a UV diode to the battery pack in the book as well so the light shines up from the bottom
I havea potion cabinet I always use and set up with many jars full of curiosities. This would be great to have a couple that do this and then apply same to a small.cauldron with a spinning spoon and I side lit up with green. Thanks. You sparked many ideas.
Your stuff is always so great, I am glad to see it getting more popular and always happy to see a new one drop. Great ideas and I appreciate that you not only show nay blunders but also how to work around them.
I am so happy and excited to be making Halloween and Fall DIY’s again! It’s my favorite time of year to watch and make crafty videos on RUclips. Thank you for sharing your creations with us. I’d love to learn more from a talented creator like you!
Thank you, I've made some potion bottles and have been thinking about how to do this. Not only did you do it, it's tested and works great! The view count on this video will be phenomenal I'm sure.
A cool cheap way to do potion bottles is to fill them with water. Take a pack of florescent markers & remove the cartridge & put one in each bottle & let them sit. Then take out the cartridge & squeeze out all the liquid into it. Then you can sit all the bottles under a black light & they'll glow florescent. I did my witch cauldron this way with the neon yellow & water. Looks awesome & glows super bright.
One of the hardest things is getting the washer and quarter centered on the motor. 😂 I did leave the cover of my book intact and simply placed the motor into the hollow of the book. Also, I used one of the chemistry stirrer magnets, then added another magnet (opposite polarity) on the opposite edge (diameter) of the quarter. That way it will spin more evenly.
Completed my 'Enchanted Potion' project last night. I did 2 'potions' on my book. I wanted to have larger bottles so I ran into a few walls with the magnet in the bottle. Since the volume was so much more, the magnet either wouldn't move (assuming due to the weight) or it wouldn't have enough inertia to really move the solution fast enough to mix the mica powder. Thankfully the motor kit I bought (the one in the description below was OOS) was a 'mini windmill' kit so it had propellers! After modifying the propellers and outfitting them is magnets everything looks amazing! Thank you Wicked Makers for such a cool Halloween haunt project! Next is making a 'spider egg sack'!
This looks like a lot of fun, I wonder if there could be a way to make the potion glow? maybe a light under the rim of the bottle? or maybe use some glow in the dark paint?
Add some strontium aluminate powder. It's a next-gen phosphorescent which will glow for as much as 30-60 minutes after being charged up. The neat thing about strontium aluminate is that it absorbs ultra-violet and radiates in the visible range, so if you want it to glow _forever_ all you need to do is add a UV LED underneath to keep the powder charged. The naked eye won't see the UV LED, but you'll see the glow from the powder. You could even use this as a night-light.
I made this to "Boo" one of my co-workers, and it looks pretty cool. I posted a short video of the results on my channel with notes on a few tweaks. Thanks very much for your entertaining and practical tutorials.
The hole can extend under the page a bit so the light fits in there but doesn't enlarge the outer hole. I'd use a little electric tea light. Maybe even a flickering one.
These are awesome! Gotta be careful with the glycerin though because it is a food product it will mold after a bit sitting out. I make fog fluid with glycerin and distilled water every year but if I leave it out it will mold in a couple weeks.
0:57 as you were talking about how you could make it do it on it's own I immediately thought of Steve Mould's video about the Inverted Whirlpool Paradox in which he uses a magnetic mixer thing that has a long-ish magnet inside the liquid that is rotated by an external magnet on the machine he is using that stirs the liquid within! EDIT: 2:37 AND that's totally the route you go for! very nice!
I really love the idea! I think you could also use the magnet, glitter watery thingy on a clear spherical ball and attach it to a staff for a magic wizard effect! I would love to see it :)
Great project; some simplification I am building into basic idea. 1. use a DEVMO 2pcs USB 5V DC Fan or other, glue magnets; now you can add wind effect and have no wiring solution. 2. power source can now be any usb power brick or just a plug in wall adapter for usb (we all have these, reducing complexity and cost).
for so long, I have been trying to think of a way to do something like this for ectoplasm to go with all my Ghostbusters collectibles! awesome video!! thank you for doing this and giving me a great idea and how to execute it!
This tutorial is really great! I clicked on this because I want to make my own decorative potion bottles too but I've come across many problems. When I did it with water and food coloring, the water evaporated through the cork stopper and the level of the liquid decreased over time. I put a small piece of plastic wrap under the cork stopper and glued the whole thing so that the water wouldn't be able to get out through the stopper but that didn't work as well. I tried epoxy resin, worked well and looks great, the liquid hardens so it can't spill outside the bottle. Problems are, the food coloring powder doesn't mix quite well and sometimes there are chunks of powder in the liquid. I like adding glitter and while the epoxy resin cures (solidifies), most of the glitter sinks to the bottom and the resin cures like that. I can't mix it during the curing. Also after a few months, I realized the glass broke. There were cracks on the bottle but no missing glass pieces; I'm assuming the glass broke because of the epoxy and didn't turn into pieces, because epoxy was stuck to the glass and is now holding the broken pieces together. After watching this video of yours, I researched about glycerin but still have some questions. Do you use the glycerin to stop the water from evaporating? Are there other reasons you mix glycerin with water? Will the water still evaporate if I add glycerin (but slower)? I want my potions to be not pourable. I want people to be able to just put it on their shelf or desk and the liquid inside doesn't decrease. It would be an extra if the liquid inside was still fluid (unlike the epoxy resin ones I did) but it isn't a must for me. At a gaming convention I went to I saw someone selling potion bottles, the inside wasn't fluid. I asked what the material was and they said hair gel with food coloring. I think that's a great option as well but I'd rather prefer a fluid liquid that doesn't evaporate and just stays inside the bottle. Sorry for the long comment, thank you for the video and for reading this!
I really don't say things like this often, but watching your channel has become a "comfort watch''for me. I really just love Halloween and diy videos and you two hust genuinely work so well together and I love to see a great team that builds each other up and I can tell you genuinely enjoy the projects. ❤❤❤♥️

I've been watching your videos with my daughter and we both love them! We decided it would AMAZING if you did a series of stuff you make with your kids!!
Fyi, If you're working in a book make your first step gluing the pages. You don't need to do it individually, instead brush glue around the edges of the pages when the book is closed (like where gold leaf usually is). Put wax paper between the front pages and cover, so you can open it to work inside after the glue dries. The glue will dry clear and hold the book as if its a wood block.

I have an idea with the giant spider prop
You get the fake spider web stuff from the store and get a fake plastic skeleton and wrap the skeleton with web and pose it and put it in the giant web
P.s. I did something like this
That would be cool with some type of light to make it look really magical.

To make the spooky automatic, you could add a foil pressure switch to the inside cover of the book. That way the weight of the bottle would connect the power to the motor and turn it on without needing to switch it on.
It has to be really close to work well through the thick glass bottom.

Thank you.
OMG.. i made these potions for my wife and a few people.. you guys just took it to a whole new level! going to do this for my wife shes going to love it!
I wonder how it would look to have some kind of differently colored oil in there too. Can’t wait to give this a try!
Yes!!!
Like a yellow liquid, with streaks of a dark purple oil wisping around? That'd be pretty awesome...
I am going to do this one with the kids. It seems to be a great project for them!
Yes!!!
Rewatching for the holidays 🎃
Your stuff is always so great, I am glad to see it getting more popular and always happy to see a new one drop. Great ideas and I appreciate that you not only show nay blunders but also how to work around them.
What a cool idea! Thanks for showing us your newest creation!
Thanks for watching!!
Wow this is one of the coolest projects y'all have done because it's so simple yet clever!
Fantastic idea. I'm going to put together a centerpiece for our Halloween meal with self stirring potions!
One of the hardest things is getting the washer and quarter centered on the motor. 😂
I did leave the cover of my book intact and simply placed the motor into the hollow of the book. Also, I used one of the chemistry stirrer magnets, then added another magnet (opposite polarity) on the opposite edge (diameter) of the quarter. That way it will spin more evenly.
4:36 I love that the book you used was The Host by Stephanie Meyer! very on brand for a spooky DIY
I’m obsessed with this channel. There’s no more videos for me to binge 😢😢
This looks like a lot of fun, I wonder if there could be a way to make the potion glow? maybe a light under the rim of the bottle? or maybe use some glow in the dark paint?
Yes!!! I’m sure you could
Add some strontium aluminate powder.
Love it! Thank you for your very thorough tutorial!!
Awesome idea!!! I think I can use this for a witches crystal ball! 🔮
❤️❤️❤️👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I adore this couple
I made this to "Boo" one of my co-workers, and it looks pretty cool. I posted a short video of the results on my channel with notes on a few tweaks. Thanks very much for your entertaining and practical tutorials.
If you make the hole juuuuuust large enough, you could also rig up a low-power LED light to make the potion glow from beneath.
Yes!!!
The hole can extend under the page a bit so the light fits in there but doesn't enlarge the outer hole. I'd use a little electric tea light. Maybe even a flickering one.
Thank you for uploading this! My family and I made four potions and they came out great!!
These are awesome! Gotta be careful with the glycerin though because it is a food product it will mold after a bit sitting out. I make fog fluid with glycerin and distilled water every year but if I leave it out it will mold in a couple weeks.
Thank you for giving me a project to do with the kids that I didn't even know we needed!
This would be super cool if you add a dim led to make it appear as though it’s glowing as well
0:57 as you were talking about how you could make it do it on it's own I immediately thought of Steve Mould's video about the Inverted Whirlpool Paradox in which he uses a magnetic mixer thing that has a long-ish magnet inside the liquid that is rotated by an external magnet on the machine he is using that stirs the liquid within!
One other thing to do is to add an LED to the circuit to shine up through the hole to illuminate the liquid.
Yes!!!
Good Idea, I'm going to do that too
What if you splice in your motor to a battery operated string lights would that work? And have you Mixed in glow paint to your mix ? Did it work
I am totally gonna make this!! I think I might add some lights to the bottom of the bottle:) :) so excited!
You are crazy talented 🤯
So freaking cool.
😄😄😄
I fell in love with your videos, like your ideas are cool and unique, love it!!!!
I run a laboratory and my first thought was to use magnetic stirrers. Seeing a DIY version of that was very cool.
I second the magic storm cocktail video
I really don't say things like this often, but watching your channel has become a "comfort watch''for me. I really just love Halloween and diy videos and you two hust genuinely work so well together and I love to see a great team that builds each other up and I can tell you genuinely enjoy the projects. ❤❤❤♥️
WoW A DIY Lab Stir setup Very Nice...
Wish I'd found this tutorial BEFORE I purchased a bunch of pre-made stuff. 😝 As always, you guys make the coolest items! Off to follow the links for future projects... 🏃♀
I've been watching your videos with my daughter and we both love them! We decided it would AMAZING if you did a series of stuff you make with your kids!!
Yeah? Ok nice 😄
Love to see it lit up. All my props are out in the dark. For the kiddies to see, I have to light everything. :) Happy Halloween and thanks!
