Okay, I watched surfing the first time in my life yesterday, and the contest for olympic gold was soooo boring. And I just thought, why doesn't this look even half as spectacular as California Games 30 years ago? So I don't know where you see people surf like this, but yesterday I didn't.
@@jefdarcyJapanese shorebreak, or most shoulder to chest-high beachbreak situations are not exciting as spectator events. As a partcipant, it is more exciting than it looks.
Watched this with a friend for nostalgia sake and had a good laugh. Epyx did a fantastic job maximizing the C64 with great graphics, gameplay and control. California Games & the whole Summer/Winter Games series was so much fun to play. Kudos to whoever scored this 10. I was cringing at how close those landings we're 😆😆😂😂
I could swear this wasn’t just another time but another dimension all together . The memory isn’t even a memory anymore just a vague dream . Shattered . Sucks being an 80s baby now .
The reason its so slow is because its being played on a PAL c64. On a NTSC c64 (the version this game was made for) its much faster and enjoyable. Also a bit harder!
The trick was to stay somewhere in the middle and keep pressing up and down frantically when the wave came - it would then back away and you could do more tricks lol - My god this game is so good but makes me feel so old hahahaha
I got 10/10 once or twice too, played the game for months then discovered the fire button enabled quicker turning, DOH! That's what you get for playing pirated games with no instruction manual(copied on a double cassette deck - don't tell Atari!).
This event had the best damn music of any game ever. I used to hum this to myself all day! Haven't heard it for years but it still rocks now haha
It's based on Surfaris' Wipeout if you haven't checked that out
@@nitorishogiplayer3465 thank you!
This run will never be beaten, take a bow son!!!
The best thing about this is that when the game came out people did not surf like this but now they do.

Really addictive game from the Commodore's glory years. Summer & Winter Games were also class.
I used to love playing them as a kid!!

Wow!!!This brings back memories. First ever game I had on the old 64. Funny how shit the graphics look now when during the day they were all time!
perfect 10 and you still get eaten by a shark? no fair!
Crikey! My best score was 9.6. I'm gobsmacked to learn after all these years how a 10 is acheived!
10/10 for everything, unfortunately jaws ate him, the end.

On the Atari lynx if you pulled the game out slightly from its slot a shark would appear!
nice run, i never was that good
1:53 Jaws
does anybody know the the name of song that this one was based on ?
Only 5 years later: Surfaris - Wipe Out
Thar was just amazing!
Where can i buy Califonria Games for the C64?
8 years with no answer. That's a shame.
Léo Meanwhile i‘ve bought a C64 Maxi, including California Games ;)
He got sympathy points for meeting Bruce.
theres no way..
...and a 4.5 from the Russian judge!
Atari Lynx version is so much better than this slow crap.
Master system is better too
fuck u
This is slow because this was recorded on a C64 emulator on the PAL setting, the correct timing for this is supposed to be on NTSC.
@@Bruno-hd9qo never 😂 peep peep audio and this is pal not ntsc version
Lynx and Master System didnt exist 1982 hw is from 1982😮
