Nowadays there's meat substitutes that taste like the real thing. I've made vegan food for people and not said anything and people don't question it. Cooking isn't about following recipes. It's about making great tasting food. Spices do not "belong" to regions or cultures. Using spices in new ways is fantastic! Love this spice mix! Well done JJ, God love ya!
yea, ok, sure. Use any spices to accomplish a delicious meal; I agree. But you cant say that a spice does not belong to a culture, yes they do. That does not prevent you from using them however you would like, but its important to know what region spices and herbs come from.

I did give up eating meat for many reasons including health a couple years ago. It's been a fun journey. The few things I've felt like I missed, like Swedish meatballs, I realized were really veggie flavors and have been really easy to recreate. Trying new veggies is cool too. I really like kohlrabi which I probably never would have tried before. I started off eating clean, and then meatless Mondays...eventually I ate so little meat and felt so good from all the veggie nutrients I didn't eat it anymore. I still have some cheese because I love pizza and on the go that can be an easy thing to get out. Enjoy your journey!

I just love this channel! Stumbled upon it a few days ago and have been watching like 4-5 videos a day now. Does not matter what you are looking for in food; Munchies seems to cover all the bases. :)
So I've been slowly cutting back on meat for ethical and health reasons. I feel like most people here are on the defensive for very weird reasons. There seems to be this refusal to acknowledge the damage that the behemoth meat industries are causing (one of the main sources of global warming) as well as the health implications of overeating meat- as in massive amounts of meat with nearly every meal as well as dairy. Not to mention the looming antibiotic resistance crises that these industries are creating, paired with the un-mitigated use of chemical/hormonal therapies which bestow no benefit on the animal other than keeping it alive in the awful living conditions which we force it into. When I watch stuff like this I'm glad that he's breaking one stereotype, wherein he is vegan but very well built... but then enforcing another stereotype about vegans where they are cocky about the fact that they no longer consume animal products. I study nutrition and am on track to being a dietician. A vegan diet is inherently one which requires RIGOROUS attention to protein sources and complementary proteins (Amino acids must be consumed in tandem or they will simply be flushed from the body and not stored). Plants have protein but they RARELY have "complete" proteins which are more available to the body. Veganism is extremely difficult to maintain over the long term which is why I feel like it forms a very secular community. If you're not socializing with people who aren't vegan, then you won't be tempted to eat something with peers who might be eating animal products. This recipe is great, however I think he glazed over the cost of the ricotta substitute. ONE container is $10. So he spent $30 on cheese substitute. This is why I don't think that certain recipes should be replicated, especially ones which rely so heavily on an ingredient which is off-limits. They cost a premium and make the diet seem as if it is exclusively for people who can afford to pay for these substitutes. Sure, a cost-analysis of an average diet vs. one with substitutes could show that there's a bit of a break-even point due to the lack of meat consumption, but for people like me who already RARELY consume meat, it just seems like going with a recipe that didn't require these substitutes would be preferable.
I think the reason vegan food imitates "regular" food is most vegans came to eat that way after lifetimes of eating meat and other animal products. People miss things they used to eat. Also, it's appealing to non-vegans. I eat chicken and fish, but I enjoy going to vegan comfort food establishments and eating vegan wings/burgers/bacon etc.
1. Vegan imitation food is good for people who are transitioning to veganism as they have been eating these foods for years. Also vegan food isn't just imitation meat, it is anything not meat or dairy. 2. Vegan food is not expensive, it's actually the cheapest diet out there. Rice, potatoes, tofu, canned beans, all very cheap. Although vegan imitation food can be pricey. 3. Agreed. 4. Meat consumption does contribute to cancer, research it.

Ever since I watched this video for the first time I’ve changed up my diet/lifestyle big time. I’m not a full blown vegan but I incorporate a lot of good vegan products and meals in my diet and I feel fantastic. Vegan Caesar salad is the easiest nutrient dense meal you can have everyday
He's inspiring and he's not even a doctor or nutritionist... Just a guy who changed his life and genuinely cares and he skips straight to some good food recipes... It doesn't get any better than that
Awesome video from one Italian to another! You are truly entertaining and definitely on the right track eating plant-based for optimum health. One suggestion though; try ditching the olive oil and coconut oil. These are nothing but highly processed fats that have zero nutrients. Huge contributors to those “effin’” heart attacks! Try water sautéing your veggies. You’ll never, ever miss that artery clogging oil! I would suggest you replace oils in dressings with whole natural fats like nuts and seeds.
lasagne only refers to the pasta, if you weren't a dumb Murican you would know that. If he called it lasagne al forno, the Neopolitian classic, that would be different, cause that isn't it, and most Italian Muricans fuck that up all on their own.

@Jason Hardin yikes, im Colombian so my desire to make lasagna was just me trying to assimilate. I realize now my culture's food is amazing and can be made vegan without sacrificing taste. Sorry about your mom's lasagna.
I love this guys attitude. Clearly he's made a huge change in his life and I am currently trying to do the same. Creative and rich recipes like these are what makes being vegan enjoyable and easy. Thank you so much for this video, it helped me a lot! Definitely gonna make this
This man has changed my life, and for the past 8 years, my journey roots from his knowledge. 💯
"And yea, I eat salad MF" LOL, you tell 'em. This guy needs a cooking show!
4:12 omfg I wish I never freakin heard that.
I had to go back and listen after I stopped laughing. That was pretty amazing.
Next time you see a cute hippie dude.... think about the nut cheese he's packing
tony lmaoooo
Ever since I watched this video for the first time I’ve changed up my diet/lifestyle big time. I’m not a full blown vegan but I incorporate a lot of good vegan products and meals in my diet and I feel fantastic. Vegan Caesar salad is the easiest nutrient dense meal you can have everyday
E H nutritional yeast has a decent amount of protein. A good amount in the dressing then a dusting on top will be enough
John is THE MAN! Much love to him for all his positive influence.
I can't stop watching this. Guy sounds like Al Pacino making a big Italian dinner.
THIS GUY IS A *LEGEND*
Best vegan cook ever.
Gaz is pretty good too
I actually love him like he's giving me life😂😭👌
Yo, can we get John Joseph back for more? He makes the best episodes!
Love John Joseph! He’s amazing! Total no bullshit kinda guy and 100% for the animas and for being the best person you can be!
He's inspiring and he's not even a doctor or nutritionist... Just a guy who changed his life and genuinely cares and he skips straight to some good food recipes... It doesn't get any better than that
I love him 😂 he's so passionate about cooking.
Need more vegan videos like this! This guy is so funny ;')
Right? It shows how gullible vegans are

Looking great in his 50s! Dam
The moment of silence after the bite is real
Damn he’s cooking like an innovative chef that has been a chef for decades. Vegan Gordon Ramsey.
He worked in kitchen with Vegetarian Raftasafaris & Hare Krishnas for years.
Man this shit looks so fuckin good
BAD ASS !!! THAT FOOD LOOKS GREAT :) JOHN JOSEPH DOES IT ALL! --- KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK JOHN, MUCH RESPECT!!!
this video popped my cherry for both munchies and cro-mags and it's still one of the best things ever.
He is by far the funniest godamn vegan chef I ever watched. Much respect.
I love this dude! What an inspirational story.
That is so true a lot of Italian suffer from heart attack cholesterol like that
Italians are the most durable people in the whole world ahead even of Japan wtf are you talking about
@@alexdelarge922 the fat Italians in America
Colitis
"Dont wanna offend the Italians"......you offended the Italians when you decided to make a lasagna with Indian spices.
JSavs11 herda marco polo where you think the spices came from india/asia dumbass
He offended them when he thought making it vegan was a good idea
lasagne only refers to the pasta, if you weren't a dumb Murican you would know that. If he called it lasagne al forno, the Neopolitian classic, that would be different, cause that isn't it, and most Italian Muricans fuck that up all on their own.
LOVE your channel so much, best one I've found in YEARS!! I love this guy!
If anyone who hasn’t tried it is wondering: this is the best lasagna I’ve ever had in my entire life.
