- In this video, I share with you my first impressions of Batam, Indonesia. After spending a week or so in South Sumatra, I decided to fly to Batam and check out a new area in Indonesia and also because it is close to Singapore. My visa was expiring soon so I need to leave the country. From Batam, I can easily take a ferry and go to Singapore.

My family lived in Batam for 3 years. Now we are in Esbjerg, Denmark. I miss Batam and the food is so cheap, people are kind but the drivers are driving so crazy, hahaha. I love Batam.❤️❤️❤️

I used to live in batam for 10 years, you makes me missed this city even more. Dont forget visit Barelang Bridge and Vietnam Camp, is a camp left over from the war years ago, and for culinary dont forget to try Fish Head Curry and Fish Soup Ikan Istimewa near Nagoya is the best.

I Miss batam a lot. I used to live there for 6 months . In batam I lived in a house surrounded by beaches in Tanjung piayu. The ambience is totally unique, the people are good and mostly open minded. I miss batam so much 🥺❤️ if you're history geek, you should visit Vietnam Camp Nick, it's a must visit place

When you are at Batam, try to go to Nongsa - There are few resorts such as Turi Beach Resort, Nongsa Point Marina & Resort, and Taman Nongsa Indah Village. You will experience the Water Sport Acitivities at night there will be seafood BBQ and also you can see Singapore clearly from the resorts. Should come back for this!

I'm so exciting to see this video because it captured Batam where I live today. Yeah, a hot city in a small island with multi local ethnic. Yeah, it's not as beautiful as Bali or Samosir Island or Yogyakarta but the island is a grown industrial city and little bit expensive than other region. You can see diversity of race, religion living in harmony.

The kids at the beach said that they are live in "pesantren". Pesantren means a islamic school that they allowed the students to live in it. They provide some dormitory for students. goodluck for your journey, nick!

You should go to Harbour Bay, nice view, there are jogging track,ferry terminal,many restaurants with live music at night,can see the view of singapore from there! So excited for you to be here. And you should go eat at Mie Tarempa Restaurant and try luti gendang,you can tell us if you like it or not.
Almost forgot, you must see Barelang Bridge because it’s the icon of Batam city. The bridge connects Batam island with several small islands. Go check them out..tell us how you feel about it!

you must go to Pasar TOS TIGA RIBU, the most crowded traditional market in Batam at 5am until 9.30am, near your hotel about 200 meter from your hotel.

Go check out Maha Vihara Duta Maitreya in Batam. It's the largest Buddhist Monastery there.

I was there few months ago and i stayed there at Turi Resort. Really miss the ambience of that place. Only thing is the nearest shopping is around 50 mins from there. Other than that, the people were very friendly and nice. Love them..

You can take damri bus from the airport. Simply turn left from the exit and all the way straight. There're 2 routes - just tell them where you want to go and they'll tell you and the driver where to stop.

I just got back from Riau, if you want to get back to Sumatra after your visa run you should try~ trip up to Melaka Malaysia from Singapore. From Melaka you can take a fast ferry across to Dumai-Riau 1.4hrs. Then from there you can access most of North Sumatra. If you don’t want to take ferry you can also fly from Melaka or klia to Pekanbaru or medan.
Normally the taxi and customs officers are quite harsh in Batam and Riau . You look to have been lucky to have a pretty smooth run .
