I find myself rewatching Phil’s videos periodically to refresh my memory. Never had a golf lesson other than videos and I can honestly say that Phil has directly impacted my ability to score under 80. Thanks Phil!
overbirdie I appreciate that but I can’t say that’s exactly the case lol. I’ve never had an official lesson but I’m constantly watching tutorials then practicing. I just really love this game. To be fair I don’t break 80 every time either lol.
@@No_one_important22 you, me and millions more. I just sometimes forget why I play the game. Strange that those times were when I wake up and cannot remember how to hold the club.
no BS when Phil is explaining anything!!! I am a lefty and have always idolized him. I have Callaway everything because of this man!. I could listen to Phil all day long! The hinge and hold method has taken several strokes off my game and has given me more confidence around the green.
I agree but Phil casually thinks you're going to make solid contact like him.. "I was practicing this shot and thought it'd be easier to do a flop shot 180° behind me instead.."
Jantje Hotswaen of course you can, just practise and believe, or just believe. When you are confident of what you can do, you will be amazed at what you can do. Just believe in yourself.
The old videos from guys like Phil & Faldo are priceless. They get to the heart of what to teach you in the first 10 seconds. And almost all of them are under 3 minutes. RUclips right now is infected with these parasites who pose as golf instructors who crank out 10 vids a day and your lucky if you see them hit one ball. The goal for them is for you to get watching so they teach you nothing.
look up the "secrets of the short game" for the full video. He says he uses a 60 degree for almost all of these shots (if he does say otherwise, assume its a 60), bounce can be from 6 to 9 degrees but he says that isn't important as long as it has a wide sole for extra bounce when he opens the face.
I figured it was a sixty by the look. When you’re at least 35-40 yards with a sixty in rough, you have to swing firmly to get that distance. Phil really shows his talent here, but he’s giving us all the right tips! I’ve learned a lot from his videos to improve my short game. Thanks, Phil!
Wedge drop, similar to mic drop but more dramatic. Phil has to be the best short game player of all time. There's a few that are close like Seve but nothing like what Phil does. That man is a wizard holding a wand, not a golfer holding a club.
@@hirepimike i followed diff instructors depending on what i thought my game needed. Currently trying to follow what the 'top speed golf' guy is advocating. Looks like i can do it and be longer and consistent. Fits my body moves. Good luck bud
Man.. I love how all these pro tips and tricks videos are filmed at golf courses where even the rough is manicured and consistent. The public courses that the majority of us play have rough that’s patchy and like a yard full of weeds.
He does cover that in this dvd..and he says “if the pin is tucked and you don’t have green to work with, there’s only so much you can do. You just have to make sure you get it out” he was talking about being plugged in a bunker and having no green. The principal applies in your situation. However out of rough..you can hit a flop shot if you’ve got it in your bag.
"or in". Great analysis of how to play these different shots. Understanding how your lie dictates the angle of attack is a great illustration. Now its time to head to the range and kill some gophers ....
I could listen to this man talk about golf all day long
The funny thing is, I know exactly what you mean! He should have like a 24/7 radio cast
He is just amazing. His videos are short and very pointed. No wasted time.
This is actually only part of a very long (and pointed) video released a few years back.
@@seanm3226 Correct, it's called "Secrets of the Short Game" I actually have it on DVD. It's an incredible video.

God I love Phil. He seems like such an awesome guy I will cheer for him everyday!
one of the best golf intellects and articulator of golf ideas.
he is a great instructor
U r the best!
It would be great if other pros gave short tips and lessons like Phil. It helps connect average golfers to the pros.
Only Phil gets it done in 3 min. I'm happy.
Johnny Parker absolutely correct. Teach rather promote.
I agree but Phil casually thinks you're going to make solid contact like him.. "I was practicing this shot and thought it'd be easier to do a flop shot 180° behind me instead.."
Amazing Phil. You're a big dork, but amazing golfer, and teacher.
The ending is great😂
He really is a gifted teacher. I’ve been applying what he says (even with my relatively low level of skill) and, strangely enough, it works.
Hmm strange
Well he’s a pga hall of famer, and strangely he knows what he’s talking about
Or in
Lol
Great instructions by Mr. Phil
These are great tips, and with Phil's feel and years of pro tour experience, you can get some pretty good results!
1:50 "Open up the face slightly". Face is almost parallel to the ground.
Only Phil...lol.
no he said open face but not as much
yeah a little bit but more however not much.
Hahahaha
Haha! Came here to make the same comment. “Open it just slightly.” Uh, Phil...that’s now a spatula.
Fairly certain he one of the Golf gods posing as a mere human.

Nice great golf tips
He’s a pretty good speaker.
I'd go home immediately after hitting any of those
LMAO

Spot on, what a great lesson!
3:13 THATS WHAT SHE SAID!
I have a problem with the driver out of the rough?
Pfsif - Yeah. We all do.
Same here and 1 iron out of the sand I wonder why!?
Have you tried swinging as hard as you can??
strike down. lmao.
Casually chips in
He makes it look so easy
I love the look of "suprise" on his face when he drops the last one in.
**** SPOILER ALERT !!!!! *****
He seems pretty good. He should try out for the PGA.
What i like here is that Phil makes me believe that even I can do this.

now how m y of us would be like, omg did you see my chip shot just now lol
Of course it goes in. I've watched all of Phil's videos but I still don't fully understand how he does it.
I'm looking for Paige Spiranac instruction videos to watch 😋. This guy keeps popping up.
My short game has literally been saved by his series of chipping tips
I’m currently just trying to get the ball on the green
good luck bud.
Sir is it with sand
These are good videos, but really important is the club he uses, he should tell what club and bounce to use in different situations!

I use a tee in the rough, it works!
Is that why I find tees in the rough >< I thought people marking for scramble and left behind
Best comment
I want to practice this now but its night time, although that wouldnt stop Phil lol
MidLifeBiker go out and practise the swing ... feel it with closed eyes ... what’s wrong with you?

What does he mean by chajectory?
If shot like the way he tells, the ball flies over the green or way short. Uhh!
Amazing confidence in his swing. Mine lasts two holes.
thick rough?!? should try my course!

Phil is so good and I am so bad this video did nothing to help a guy with a cursed chipping stroke.
Call that rough? Good video though from a great.
lol, or in. enough said, phil is to sick

Playing recreationally there isn't enough time to consider all the angles when chipping. Gotta watch some videos on how to play ready golf.
Phil obviously has no idea of the amateur skill level.
