Licensed massage therapists commonly use cupping therapy, me included. I love it because it decompresses the muscle tissue, providing a lot of relief. And of course effectively increases circulation. Most people love the way it feels, some people find it pinchy and painful. Going slow, providing less suction, and more oil/lotion will help with the intensity for those sensitive clients.

Just some warnings if you want to do it at home or by some practitioners you don't know.
    (1) Greater suction DOES NOT mean greater good. The traditional way of Chinese cupping uses fire instead of vacuum suction. This is very important, because fire will heat up the air a little bit and only exhaust the oxygen in the cup, which creates a moderate suction. However the vacuum suction generate too much suction which will damage the blood vessels and skin too deeply.
    (2) Incorrect positions. Spine is a FORBIDDEN area for cupping and acupuncture. The place where you do the cupping is supposed to be where the Meridian goes through. The meridian on the back is along both sides of the spine, but NOT on the spine.
    (3) Time and Color monitoring. The traditional Chinese therapist will keep an eye on the time and color change. To treat different diseases or to reach different purposes, you need to control the time and to monitor the color change. The deeper the redness DOSE NOT mean the better result in some cases.
    (4) Qualification. Cupping and acupuncture are not something like you see and you do. You need to learn Chinese medicine of Meridian. I really doubt about the qualification of some practitioners in the west. I don't think they understand the traditional Chinese medicine well enough to practice the therapy.
You need a qualified therapist to do all of this or you may do more damages then goods. Cupping is supposed to be done by specialist in traditional Chinese medicine. If you do it at home, keep it in mind that you need to use lighter suction and shorter time.

I had cupping performed on me and it left many circular bruises on my back. It is not painful at all. How long does it normally take for the bruising to go away?

Hello. I hope you can help me. What is the age limit? My nephew just turned 1 years old and he has been in hospital all his life with respiratory problems. He has fought pneumonia and every cold/flue is a battle. He can't excrete mucus and is on a suction machine. Would cupping benefit him and is it safe for him?

Aziza K No i wouldnt recommend it as he is still developong an it may induc different complications. I suggest talking to a pulmonologist or a doctor of natural medicine. I hope he gets better !

SpectreDonut thank you so much for your kind reply. I hope he gets better and enjoys life like children his age. He has been receiving respiratory care for the past year. Doctors don't know what's caused the problems. He had a good pregnancy but bad labour, and must have lost a lot of oxygen then. We don't see a doctor of Natural Medicine here in the UK, I think they're more prominent in the US. Thank you again, please keep us in your prayers.

lemon helps excrete phlegm but drink it through a straw, it can take off tooth enamel. I mixed it with juice and drank 4 oz a day

I hope things have gotten better for your nephew in shaa Allaah. I have a friend whose son was still not walking at 18 months. He wasn't able to put his foot flat or walk on it. After physiotherapy, nothing was progressing and she had cupping done on the bottom of his foot. The change was immediate AlhamdulilLAh. I would say to try it, especially as he's a bit older now. Pray istikhara whatever you do.

You should look into using small doses (1/2 tsp) of colloidal silver in a nebulizer machine with a face mask to deliver the silver directly to his lungs 1 to 2 times per day. In addition, quercetin and bromelain supplements can help with respiratory issues. Finally, AHCC and beta glucans can help with overall natural immune boosting. I recommend talking with a naturopath doctor for proper dosing for a young child.

welesh mahary Then you get ignoraneous fools like welesh popping their head out of the wood work, who slur their right wing hate speech. Who have never read the Quran or Seerah (biography of the last line of Messengers). Will be very surprised he/she has read the Bible or Torah.
Carry on your hate and ignorant rant the Mercy to the Worlds endured and tolerated a lot more during his time and so have we. We are still standing strong.
