A FRIEND FROM ENGLAND TOLD ME THAT EVEN AS LATE AS THE 80S POOER PEOPLE WENT TO THE GROCERY AND MEAT SHOPS ONCE A WEEK OR SO TO PUT MONEY DOWN ON THAT ONE GREAT MEAL AT CHRISTMAS. I WAS FLOORED AS I LIVE IN CANADA AND THIS WOULD NEVER HAVE OCCURRED TO ME FOR WE'VE NEVER HAD TO DO THIS. BOB'S FAMILY MUST HAVE BEEN SO POOR AS NOT TO EVEN HAVE THE AMOUNT OF FLOUR TO MAKE A DECENT SIZE PUDDING ONCE A YEAR??!!
NOW THIS REVELATION THAT BOB'S SALARY WAS CONSISTENT IN THIS TIME. I THOUGHT FOR DECADES THAT BOB'S SALARY WAS UNIQUE EVEN THEN. I MUST HAVE READ AND LISTENED TO AUDIOBOOK READINGS OF THIS STORY 1000 TIMES AND ALWAYS THOUGHT BOB COULD HAVE JUST QUIT AND GONE TO ANOTHER EMPLOYER??!!
