Ran my First Marathon Ever - Sanlam Cape Town Marathon - Wasn't What I Expected! + REVIEW

I just finished my first marathon in the mother city for the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon and it didn't go as I had expected it to go. My training went really well and I expected to perform much better, but I couldn't prepare for this.
I travelled all the way to Cape Town from Johannesburg so that I could build up the excitement to do it, and have the pressure to finish it since, well, I'm already there. And I wanted to run in a completely different environment than what I'm used to.
After getting new shoes weeks before, and getting new socks I was prepared for war. They got me far, but my body failed me the more it went. I wish I could explain what happened lol. I was told it was an easy qualifier for Comrades, and I found out the hard way that it wasn't. Or maybe I wasn't ready yet.
This run definitely didn't feel normal. Some KMs in and everything in my legs started to hurt including my hips. I don't want to use that as an excuse. I'll come back next time and show myself what I was actually capable of.
The run felt like it just kept going on and on and would never finish. I'll have to train and prepare better for next time.

I just checked your official results after watching this video. Looked like a suffer fest! Are you returning this year for redemption? Hopefully you have a GoPro this time round or film on a phone with OIS.

Hahaha It was a suffer test of note. And no, not this year. Maybe next, and I will be ready. GoPro would be great! And I need a proper watch so my phone doesn't die on me

@@iam_aphe Now that's the spirit! So long as you get back in there next year, it's all good. Whether it's this or another marathon. Rumours are that this will finally make it as a Marathon World Major event and tickets next year will be harder to get, and more prestigious.
