I have Ne Oblvisicaris, Haken, and Tesseract from this list. And recently discovered Temic, so would have Terror Management Theory in my honorable mentions to be sure. I think a glaring omission here is Scar Symmetry "The Singularity Phase II". And also "I am the Storm" by Redemption. Finally.....depending on subjective genre qualifications....Angra's "Cycles of Pain" is a tremendous album.
Agree....I would say VERY good to almost great. Friend or Foe has that cool 80's vibe that just takes me back to that Era. But again...the subjectivity of prog rock vs prog metal. They have metallic elements, but lean more toward rock. Id.Entity would be in my top 10 best albums of 2023 regardless of genre specificity.

Im really surprised there's no Mention of a lot of Prog albums I personally have on my top 10. Althogh admmitedly, most of them are not TRUE Prog, I think Prog often finds itself shinning the most when it is just an ingredient nowadays Worm/Dream Unending - Starpath Krallice - Porous Resonance Abyss TDK - Nemesta Fleshvessel - Yearning: Promethean Fates Sealed King Gizzard has 2 really good albums this year with heavy prog infusions Afterbirth - In but nof Of (More avant-Garde than Prog admitedly) Ok Goodnight - The Fox and the Bird Lampr3a - Esnse Void Ceremony - Threads of Unknowing These are the prog albums I gave an 8 or more this tear in no particular order. There were some surprises, a few of these are Debut or Sophomore albums, and I personally found them way more interesting and/or entertaining than all the traditional prog albums.
Surprised by the number one Dawn of Ouroboros..Doesnt sound prog metal at all. More extreme metal or black metal. That voice is really difficult to listen to for any amount of time.
I can see what you mean. But this album is too luscious for black metal, and the guitarists play some drop-tuned prog riffs among the maelstrom of noise.

Omnerod - The Amensal Rise, Alkaloid - Numen, Periphery V for me, in that order.
Periphery V was the album we were most excited about for 2023. Unfortunately, it fell just short of their usual high standards.

Urne is so good!!!! It is like Opeth+Mastodon+Gojira. I strongly recommend it. You can even feel Dream Theater from them.
