    Thank you so much Georgina for your really enjoyable and informative videos! I’ve been following your business for a while now and you’ve been a big inspiration whilst I’m starting out my candle company. And actually my costs seems very close to yours (luckily I have a co-owner/partner) who is an accountant who MAKES sure I keep my costs to a minimum 🙈 but I have learnt loads on where to go for packaging and how much to buy in the first stages of selling. So thank you! You’ve really made me feel less stressed now! Well done in your success and I will continue to follow along. All the best, a fellow Georgina x

    I am in the process of starting a candle business and I feel like evaluating the scents you want to include will give you more costs as you need to order samples and might not like some of the scents. And FO is one of the most expensive components when making candles. I have currently spent around 940 £ and have not finished testing yet :-)

  • @duygu4876
    @duygu4876 5 месяцев назад

    compared to other businesses, this is actually a rather decent cost of starting a candle business. i am not in the UK, but that's just about what i thought i'd have to invest.. with a few additions. in my country you also have to register your business, which varies from 20-50€ as far as i know. and maybe a couple other things i'd need to pay for if i want to make and sell candles. but if i am gonna do this, i feel like i might ask for consultation from lawyers etc. bc i am scared to do smth wrong tbh and i just wanna be on the safe side as much as possible. definitely gonna try and save up around 1200-1500€ before i get started. why did i have to love the idea of making candles... why not start a clothing or jewelry company or smth instead, which feels a little safer 😂😂😂

    i think you forgot to mention selling fees and marketing. Paypal, amazon, eBay, Shopify, Etsy, MasterCard, and Visa all have their own sales percentages and/or listing fees. also to sell candles, you're going to need to market it. you can do it for free on social media, but that is hard and can take a long time.

  • @marshadow959

    Well done 👍
    Excellent video, covered almost everything for a new starter. Very clear in terms of costing and packaging. I have seen, so many misleading vedios saying you can start a candle business with 50 pounds, which I think is not realistic, because there so many things that you have to buy before even start and then the insurance on top of that , how do you spent just 50 pounds? It's clear that something is not quite right, but your vedeo is excellent I have to say. Please post more videos like this in the future
    Thanks for sharing and good luck

    Fantastic video! Spot on! I feel that I am on the right track. I started with candle making kit I think same one I’ve seen a peek of in on one of your videos 🙂 most of my supplies arrived today but my 10kg of wax, fragrances and colours will be here in couple of days as they’ve been ordered from couple websites that you actually mentioned in another video. So far I’ve spend about £240 plus £220 for trademark application but this amount don’t include shipping out, insurance and labels/stickers yet. I thought I hold of on the stickers until I create a scent combo etc as they will have to include my brand as well as fragrance name etc. Can’t decide what is better having them printed by the same company that printed my business cards or print them myself... any advice on type of printers etc. I have one that uses ink but you mentioned thermal label printer how does that compare etc?

    • @IvyTwineCandles
      @IvyTwineCandles  2 года назад +2

      Thanks 😊 as well as taxes being a big topic it also varies completely from country to country and I only have experience in the UK, where as a business it still varies greatly depending on how you’re set up i.e sole trader, limited company etc. so I thought better to not try get in to it lol.

      Thanks Ashley 😊 Things are quite a bit different here in the UK so you don't need to have a business entity to get started, you can act as a 'sole trader' (not sure of how things work in the US I'm afraid!). But we did choose to register as a private limited company which I believe is the same or similar, but it only costs a small amount of £ to do that here!

    Is it too much fragrance oil to add? I usually add 30ml per 0.5kg wax (1oz per Ib) to make two 8oz candles.
    4kg fragrance oil to make 100 candles. Oops. I found it out it's similar.😲

    What's the safest way to pay for supplies online? Credit card or paypal...

      Hi Pascal, Gordon here - I tend to deal with the finances so thought id jump on here. We currently use an american express for most online payments (if you dont have one of these id use a credit card) Financially it doesnt make sense to 'actually' pay upfront for your supplies. If you put it on a credit card and do it wisely you can buy yourself 59 days before you actually need to pay it off giving you a chance to sell the candles before you have paid for the supplies. cash is king! Oh really? We're not too bad where we are, but it helps buying in bulk if you can to get the cost per item down!
