  • Gerald C. Goeringer, an associate professor at Georgetown University for 32 years, died Feb. 2 at the Potomac Valley nursing center in Rockville. He was 81.
    The cause was aspiration pneumonia, said his son, Keith Goeringer.
    Dr. Goeringer, a Bethesda resident, taught embryology, histology and cytology at Georgetown University’s medical and dental school from 1966 until his retirement in 1998.
    Earlier in his teaching career, he was an assistant professor at San Diego State University in California.
    Gerald Conrad Goeringer was born in Philadelphia and raised in Washington. He was a 1950 graduate of St. John’s College High School in Washington. He was a 1955 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, and in 1960, he received a doctorate in embryology from Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill.
    He was a member of the American Philatelic Society, an organization of stamp collectors.
    Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Joan Moser Goeringer of Bethesda; and two children, Leslie Goeringer of Silver Spring and Keith Goeringer of Annandale.
