    I love that OXO paste pot! What a shame about that hexagonal honey jar. It was lovely :) I think the big 'tea bag' is one of the soil holders that nurseries use to grow plants in. You can then plant them directly in the garden, but the bag never seems to decompose, so I have to take them out at the end of the season. Brilliant head find!!! I'd love to hear a complete video of yours in the gravelly voice. That would be such fun!!!!! Great video, as always :D

    Wow so many tiny jars & bottles, those are cool to find. The eye catching pieces were the broken teapot, tiny rose patterned dish & old copper kettle. Most interesting find is the big piece with the rings. I bet that's going to look great all polished up. :) The (eye catching pieces) are 14:07 & 15:12 broken teapot, 14:26 rose patterned dish & 26:45 old copper kettle. When re watching so I could add time stamps I spotted something I didn't see on the first go. 25:40 glass vase. I'm gonna have to watch some more to see what else I missed. This video is like an Easter egg hunt. :)

    I do a little dumpster diving. I haven't had to buy packing materials for things I sell for years, and I have quite a supply of "Dumpster paper" for my printer. The only books that might make money for you these days are college textbooks you could sell on Amazon. Other books are mostly a washout, as every thrift store and library sells books cheaply in the US. I have stacks of books here, and I manage to sell an unusual cook book for about 5 USD every once in a while.
    I have begun to notice similarities in some of the things I find in the particular dumpster I go to, and some things mudlarkers find. I have found tiny bottles, glass stoppers, shells, marbles, pottery & glass, buttons, costume jewelry and lots of beads. I find many less permanent craft items that I save that the mudlarkers rarely find though. Except for Caroline who does find cloth and stuffed animals.

    Here in Chicago we get our water through lead pipes. The city says that the high mineral content in the water (like calcium) coats the inside of the pipes, thus making it safe because the water allegedly does not ever come into contact with the lead.

    • @SAOS451316
      @SAOS451316 3 года назад

      that's why the majority of ancient rome didn't get lead poisoning, but it's still not properly safe, like asbestos pipe insulation. lead pipes still leech into the groundwater from the outside. of course the calcite comes with other problems like harboring microbes and decreasing the flow capacity so they still should be replaced.

    Here in Kentucky, people break into older homes to remove the copper pipes and wiring (while the owners are away). Used copper, brass, lead, and aluminum are sold at recycle yards. My first cousin was made homeless after theves took the pipes, wiring, and everthing else they could take from her house. She was staying with one of her daughters so that she could be near her husband (the last days of his life in a nursing home in another state). Her house was damaged so badly that no could ever live there again. She spent the last months of her life being passed from one daughter to the other. When she died, she could not be brought back to her home state for burial (because of the shut down caused by the pandemic).

    A very enjoyable walk! Possibly others have mentioned it by now but in case they haven't: lodging coins into a raw potato supposedly cleans them gently but effectively. I haven't tried it myself but have seen it done on another mudlarker's channel and it did indeed yield good results. The only drawback is that the process can take weeks and even months.

    • @tomburleigh9261
      @tomburleigh9261  2 года назад +1

      Yes, that would probably be Mudlarking With Kit & Caboodlers!? I did try it, but it's quite costly in terms of potatoes; takes about 6 of them to clean coins properly, (and I prefer to eat them)...whereas electrolysis does it much much faster. Not as gentle; leave it in there too long and the copper starts coming off as well as the oxides and chlorides, but it is fast and easy. 🙂

    Great finds .my ex husband use to do scrapping for a living,of course I worked as well most of the time.However at times he made pretty good money at it and we lived comfortably. Dumpster diving her in Georgia is against the law.,there are dumpster stations dotting around the counties that are kept fenced in and has a county employee in a shack at the gate to prevent dumpster diving.There is always a BUT when people get rid of something " nice" they usually place it outside the dumpster where it can be gotten by someone that wants it. Also there are dumpster for recycling such as glass,plastic cardboard and electric appliances larger items such as stoves washers and dryer etc had to be taken to the land fill ,at a charge to whom ever is dumping it .There are also places at the land fill for people who are roofers and other contractors to dump off their unwanted rubbish.. Quit organized when people follow the laws and don't take it to a old country road and discard it because they are too cheap to pay the fee.I agree can be very high,I took an old dresser to the landfill and they charged me $60 which was more that I paid for it some years before at a second hand store ,my memory correct ,I paid $40 for it. Well enough about Georgia and our garbage . Stay Safe here the covid virus it taking a second shot at us ,they lifted the band on wearing the masks too soon .

    Hi Tom. Fantastic video, the things the “bottlers” as I call (the diggers) is so strange. They leave so much good stuff!!! Well I’m not complaining, hahaha!! Amazing video, so peaceful to watch on a Sunday evening 🙂 Happy hunting & Stay safe :)) ps- the voices near the end made me laugh!! 😂

      Thanks Adam. Yep, without the bottlers, I wouldn't have much to film; makes me wonder what treasures they're taking when they leave such good things behind. I've got your video to watch in a bit, your film-making is getting really good. 🙂

    I have a new perspective now from which to view all my favourite mudlark/bottle dump videos. Having just moved house, which required major divesting of personal belongings, I can enjoy all that you and others are gathering up while feeling a deep sense of relief at having significantly reduced of the burden of owning so much stuff!! LOL A lovely way to spend Sunday evening, rambling along a river with Tom. Thank you again for your hard work in making these videos. See you next time.

      That's wonderful Noralee, I hope your new home is a good move for you. I'm looking forward to a time I can free myself of a lot of my personal belongings; I do try to maintain a willingness to give things up, and have regular and sometimes brutal clear-outs... but, still... I bring things home. 🙂

      Blitz beach in Crosby, nr. Liverpool is a fairly good option; it's two miles of wartime and later dumpsite being slowly eroded by the sea. Big chunks of buildings, plus smaller household items... and a world famous art installation just down the beach from it. 🙂

    I need to catch up on your videos! I hope you are doing well. I liked your comment on foraging in safer areas. I often wonder how you choose the plants you choose, and what they taste like. In a heavily populated place like Austin, TX. I wouldn't even try. 1 million or more people, their dogs, litter, and all that entails. I did try watercress from a beautiful stream in the Jemez mountains in New Mexico. Delicious. I love your slow meanders when getting to your prospective sites. The UK is such a beautiful place. I adore the overcast days. I have a question about the more aggressive mudlarkers/bottle searchers that dig into the banks, are there any procedures in place to repair the damage?
