The Negh'var is the first time the Klingon Empire really felt _united_ on the battlefield. The small Bird of Prey variants they had before were always more a swarm of individual skirmishers doing their own thing, and even the Vor'cha was """just""" a bigger gun for those in power, impressive as it was. But this is a proper command ship, which fulfills a distinctly different role than the rest of the fleet. To use effectively it requires cooperation and strategic coordination. And seeing that from the Klingons - who had mainly been held back by their infighting for individual goals - is a scary sight for whoever happened to be their enemy at the time.
I feel like Gowron is sort of doing a Meji revolution within the Empire. He's centralizing and standardizing the government and reforming the military into a cohesive and disciplined whole.
The Birds of Prey always reminded me of knives, small but fast and lethal up close. The Negh'Var seems like a Bat'leth, slow but brutal when it hits. It even kinda resembles The Sword of Kahless. The 4 disruptor cannons being the 4 main spikes and the middle spike that his Bat'leth had. When we see them use Bat'leths they strike people a lot with the center but its just a blade there, Kahless's has this massive spike instead.
I always loved how that design (seen once more on Voyager) really looks like two separate swords got shoved together, rather than being one sleek, modern, mass-produced thing like the one we usually see.

It makes a lot of sense-while also being heavily ironic-that this class' production was the baby of Changeling Martok. Fitting in that in terms of design language and mission profile it more closely resembles the Jem'Hadar battlecruiser than typical Klingon designs. Ironic because they saw the most action being turned _against_ the Dominion's forces.
I mean, that's Klingons for you. Adapt what your enemies have and use it against them. They did it to The Federation (The D7 has so much Crossfield blood in it, diagetically. Obviously the opposite is true IRL), they did it with the Romulans (The B'rel), and they just. Kept. Doing it. And it works.
A warrior's greatest strength is in the mind. Anyone can swing a blade or fire a gun. A warrior... one who engages in the *Art* of war... is always seeking the perfect answer to every problem. Elegance... insight... finesse... and the lethal stroke that judges the battle; Like the Samurai of Old Earth.
And with the Bird of Prey being analogous to the Jem'Hadar Attack Fighter aka Bugship. So the Dominion and Klingons basically had the same fleet structure - except the Klingons also had legacy D7's to take the Mirandas role of being destroyed in major battles.
@@kcdodgerI never really thought about the connection between the Federation Crossfield Class and the Klingon D7 but now that you mention it that’s a really fascinating idea. I played the Federation and Romulans a lot more... and when he discovered what the Sovereign Class' special ability was, to basically reflect torpedo AND ion cannon shots in a PvP round we did was priceless. He fired off like six ion cannons at two of my Sovereigns. And then they ate them all in return fire, killing half his battleship line. Good times. It only ever worked once, though.

We await the coming Legendary Negh'var. I just hope they give it a proper 25th Century design, instead of some retro thing like they did with the L-Akira.
Hopefully one with 5/3 or 6/2 weapons or even to really hammer home that the Negh'Var is a mighty ship 5/4, slap a hanger bay or two on there as well, with 5 engineering 5 tactical and 1 science for consoles. Give it a trait that effectively turns cannon rapid fire into beam overload overload, massively increase the single target damage. Would that maybe be overpowered? Maybe, as long as they keep it to 8 total weapons I couldn't see it doing much other than giving people another option for something to play as a bricky cannon ship. Now if they went to 9 main weapons that could cause some problems, but still fewer total weapon sources than some ships in game already.
I was very disappointed we never saw this ship again during the Dominion War. What the hell was the logic in shoving General Martok into a Bird of Prey
Well, they're more nimble, numerous, and subtle. You put your most important general on your biggest, flashiest ship, going to be an even bigger and more important target.
The Romulans' rejection of all AI means that every ship's system either has to be overbuilt, compensated with more workers, or involve an even more clever form of non-thinking automation. The Klingons are progressing linearly through Power. The Romulans are already the most technically advanced Alpha Quadrant power, but are having to backtrack over their own shortcomings; They're learning how to Miniaturize their advanced technology. Because they know, if they can't, the Federation's technical ingenuity is literally nipping at their heels. The Federation's gift of Problem Solving can leapfrog the Romulans the moment they settle down to try. The Romulans can't depend on simply having better ships anymore. Especially without Romulus and its greater infrastructure to support such grand projects.
Scale and industrial capacity. The Romulans set up their industry to produce ships against the other Alpha Quadrant powers under a central command. They could build big ships cheaper because they focused on only that. Realizing that a battleship only fleet is less flexible, the Romulans need a lighter class if ship. It would be hilarious if the KDF and Dominion got into a ship-building contest where the winning ship is dementedly huge and covered in so many weapons, you only need to fire once. Because they absolutely would do something like this is pushed.
We have seen that a Defiant-class can use its small size and agility to get in so close that it can't be targeted where it can keep firing away until the Negh'Var is destroyed or forced to retreat.
So a ship fulfilling a role it was designed for vs a ship fighting a threat it was not designed to fight. The Defiant class is one of the most hateful ship designs in starfleet meant to be a giant killer above even the survival of the crew. I see the Fed fanboys are out in full force today. Funny yall keep bringing up the overrated "tough little ship" that almost got annihilated by a single shot from a Borg plasma beam, or the heavy cruiser that couldn't target lock a B'rel if its life depended on it unless/until the writers decided they needed it to. Fed ships are ALWAYS woefully underpowered until the story needs them to suddenly defeat foes that are indisputably superior in every way, then they get plot armor and plot aim. Strip away their plot contrivances and a single Negh'Var or even a K'tinga could take them on ANY two at a time and win, no contest. The Negh'var in particular would wipe the floor with the Defiant without its plot armor because the Negh'Var has actual armor, not just shields that Starfleet somehow magically finds a way to modulate through when the plot demands that, too. Well you can't modulate your way past a dozen layers of Duranium, and a Negh'var only has to pop Sisko's baby once with all that forward firepower and it instantly becomes a memorial plaque at Starfleet Academy. Just take away the plot armor and see how badly you want to be a Starfleet captain then.
This is probably the ship I've wanted In a decent size the most for my collection for years. But Diamond Select crapped out, Eaglemoss went under with Master Replicas losing the Star Trek license and it looks like Playmates new line died before it could get going. Well, gotta keep hope alive.
Just in time for the "Leg'var" coming out in STO later this year (hopefully). The Negh'warship is just the best looking ship in the Klingun Empire for me. :)
man i hope we are going to see them on screen again the klingon we have not seen them proberply i feel like sure one klingon once and a while like how are they in the 25 century
2:00 at this side angle seems to be the best angle to attack it as there don't seem to be many weapons deployed at this angle this style of warship has its heavy weapons aligned along the front lateral, much like a traditional land tank and is aligned to linear 2d thinking along 360 degrees and fighting. In space, everything is 3D thinking and 360 degrees (front/rear, left/right, top/bottom, left and right sides) and combinations thereof. One key flaw I see in all Starship designs is that they fail to take advantage of the Carrier and Fighter principles. By this, I mean that even Enterprise D could carry several armed shuttles (manned or unmanned) to be launched when they see they are suddenly outnumbered or outgunned by an enemy. In many episodes the Federation ship has its weapons knocked out in the fight and left defenseless and unarmed, but having a squadron of fighters supporting it in the fight should more than enough to defeat the enemy and cause them to retreat or be killed. So in this snapshot, those squares at the center top of the ship can be the hangar bays for storing and launching 18 fighters. And since there isn't really an up or down in space, they can have the identical thing under the ship as well for a total of 36 launch bays for shuttles and/or fighters.
How about an episode or 3 covering the Heavy Destroyers _STO_ gives out from the Lifetime Subscription? One Klingon, one Starfleet (Chimera, with Manticore variant), one Romulan, and maybe they have something for your Jemmy?
Much prefer this to the Vor'Cha. Could possibly do with fewer bits sticking out, although I'd like it if that detachable scout ship could have been some sort of updated bird-of-prey. :)
Slower than a battlecruiser, less maneuverable than a battlecruiser, tougher shields than a battlecruiser, more heavily armored than a battlecruiser. So in other words a battleship.
Would like to have seen the Negh'var battle large Dominion shps. The Daystrom Institute Technical Library suggests two Negh'var ships are roughly equal to one Dominion battle cruiser plus one Dominion battleship.
I love how the Klingons are a beta power and the federation is split down the middle by alpha and beta but it's always the strongest in the alpha quadrant or alpha quadrant that. One would almost forget the beta quadrant even exists given how invested the two beta quadrants powers are invested in the alpha quadrant that l rather than their own beta. Thank you for bringing up the beta powers
Love how it has Red-Green Navigation lights With Red on the port side and Green on the starboard side. Why does a Klingon use Earth based navigation lights and configuration?
I will do, but at the moment I'm pretty sure we are waiting on new story missions. I have the patrol footage to work though though so that's probably next up.
I wonder if paramount is actually dropping their streaming service. Will that mean no more star trek as we knew it? Will fans be able to make fan films without fear of lawsuits
I think I read somwhere they have another facility where they manufactured them . That secure base . In dd9 season 5 . ( forgot how to spell it ) . A small shipyard
Late to this party but when it comes to the Negh'Var, even in current STO it's an intimidating ship. Well, simply damage sponge to the experienced player at the very least but much like the first Goomba in Super Mario 1985, many unwary fall victim to this battleship. Then there's the massive DPS guys. It's a question of whether or not the Negh'Var ever gets off that lucky hit that one-shots the player.
The Neg'var really makes me think of U.S. naval . . fleets(?)/ divisions(?), I forget the term. Consisting on ONE very big, powerful but slow main ship, and a number of smaller, still powerful, but faster ships to provide support & cover as needed. (While the "big boy" walked up & just pulverized whatever it was facing.) The Neg'var is HUGE, powerful, slow as molasses, but if one shows up? You BETTER high tail it out of there! (or have a substantial force & good strategy to take it on.) If it shows up with support vessels? . . . . Run. Just run.
If you're thinking Cold War, it'd probably be Carrier Battle Groups or, more on point with the Negh'var, Surface Action Groups. If WW2, it'd probably be a Task Group or Task Unit.
werent the added bottom disruptor cannons bigger and more powerfull then the frontal one? at least thats what was in the show. They were siege weapons with biggest firepowed klingons mounted on ship till now.
How does their need for "honor" related to frontline combat and stuff translate to members of the crew? We always see like, the bridge officers and stuff when it comes to the klingons but how much honor is there in being the torpedo loader, or the ships doctor? I'd say like, how much honor is there in the ships cook and the cleaning crew, but obviously they're filthy places and eat their food raw so I doubt they even have those.
I don't remember the episode titles, but in DS9, when Martok returns to service (with Worf and Dax on-board) it seems implied that the ship's honor is the crew's honor. And, when VOY finds the Klingon ship in the Delta Quardrant, the Captain's honor sort of trickles down to the Crew's honor.
Now that you mention it, i don't think we do in DS9 but the class I think did show up in an episode of Voyager in the final season when a future Janeway goes back in time.
Meanwhile Starfleet makes over a dozen different ship types at a time... two dozen? No doubt the Klingons will still be using the Negh'Var for at least a century or more. It may even outlast the Excelsior.....

@@austinm5630 yes we are. The hero ships in the shows would, somehow, win. Apples to apples, the Federation would need to take it on 2-1 or 3-1.
someone ask STO when we're getting a Legendary version of this beast
"You have made us deploy a new class in battle! This we do not forgive, or forget..."- Gowron, probably.
...For some reason, it reminds me of the Asgardian O'Niell class from Stargate on hull layout.
Klingons are so good at combat engineering because of their warrior culture. This is known as the "Sapper Worf Hypothesis".
man i hope we are going to see them on screen again the klingon we have not seen them proberply i feel like sure one klingon once and a while like how are they in the 25 century
Great work thank you 👍🏽
2:00 at this side angle seems to be the best angle to attack it as there don't seem to be many weapons deployed at this angle
this style of warship has its heavy weapons aligned along the front lateral, much like a traditional land tank and is aligned to linear 2d thinking along 360 degrees and fighting.
That opening scene looked asgard.
I love this class of Klingon ship.
Slower than a battlecruiser, less maneuverable than a battlecruiser, tougher shields than a battlecruiser, more heavily armored than a battlecruiser. So in other words a battleship.
I believe the Negh'var should be viewed less as a battleship and more as a fortress floating in space.
I just wish there was a version of this with a lance weapon... It just feels like it should have one
It looked badass when it showed in 'Way of the warrior'
Hold my phaser lance
“He said today is a great day to die” - Way of the Warrior
God I love Klingon ship design and theory
Thank you
Would like to have seen the Negh'var battle large Dominion shps.
Love how it has Red-Green Navigation lights
With Red on the port side and Green on the starboard side.
Why does a Klingon use Earth based navigation lights and configuration?
fav ships of KDF
Bird of prey / K'vort (whats not to love)
D7 variants K't'inga (hate the neck)
Vorcha (omg LOVE this ship)
Negh'var big fat ship
Right off the bat, Vorcha on steroids. Sounds like an powered up Mercenary unit from Mass effect 2-3.
hey Rick, hope you are well. toatlly not in context question, but, are you going to upload the new STO missions again? loved those.
let's hope Cryptic releases some new ones soon
they have, inc some retro ships and new missions.
I will do, but at the moment I'm pretty sure we are waiting on new story missions. I have the patrol footage to work though though so that's probably next up.
ah, no new story with the ships...
Just goes to show just how powerful the Future Enterprise-D's phaser lance actually was to punch 4 holes in one.
This ship needs two more things to make it perfect. More Weapons and Blood Wine cup holders for the crew after winning the battle.
Scary suggection, K'Tanco review hehe.
I wonder if paramount is actually dropping their streaming service. Will that mean no more star trek as we knew it? Will fans be able to make fan films without fear of lawsuits
Seems they're transferring Star Trek stuff to Netflix.
How does the Klingon Neg'var stack up against the Romulan Scimitar? Which is stronger?
This ship looks like it could separate in both the yacht section and front bridge section.
ST Armada’s most dangerous special weapon for the dreadnoughts.
I think I read somwhere they have another facility where they manufactured them .
That secure base . In dd9 season 5 . ( forgot how to spell it ) .
A small shipyard
I wonder if there are any videos about Klingon Engineers. Who are these Klingons that build the fleets? How are they seen in Klingon society?
Starfleet uses a hammer
The KDF uses a PILE DRIVER
o-o glory to you
O-O and your house
o-+ Martok
Can you do a video on Star Trek Voyager's ship mainly it's tricobalt weapons what are their main purpose and how are they compared with other weapons
Looks like an updated B-10 Battle cruiser
Late to this party but when it comes to the Negh'Var, even in current STO it's an intimidating ship. Well, simply damage sponge to the experienced player at the very least but much like the first Goomba in Super Mario 1985, many unwary fall victim to this battleship. Then there's the massive DPS guys. It's a question of whether or not the Negh'Var ever gets off that lucky hit that one-shots the player.
In the birth of the federation pc game these are planetary bombardment vessels and vorcha are the supreme cruiser class, sovereign class equivalent
Jem'Hadar battle cruiser vs The Negh'Var, who would win?
Still waiting for a Legendary Negh'Var for Star Trek Online.
No mention of the Giant Sized Mirror Universe Klingon-Cardassian Alliance version?
youve been rick.
Or was I?
It is glorious
The Neg'var really makes me think of U.S. naval . . fleets(?)/ divisions(?), I forget the term.
Consisting on ONE very big, powerful but slow main ship, and a number of smaller, still powerful, but faster ships to provide support & cover as needed.
(While the "big boy" walked up & just pulverized whatever it was facing.)
The Neg'var is HUGE, powerful, slow as molasses, but if one shows up? You BETTER high tail it out of there! (or have a substantial force & good strategy to take it on.)
If it shows up with support vessels? . . . . Run. Just run.
If you're thinking Cold War, it'd probably be Carrier Battle Groups or, more on point with the Negh'var, Surface Action Groups.
If WW2, it'd probably be a Task Group or Task Unit.
@@nekophht All I could remember was that America has ELEVEN of them.
But I THINK the term I was struggling with was "Carrier Group". So, THANKS!
I really like this ship but the Vor'Cha is still my favorite Klingon bird
werent the added bottom disruptor cannons bigger and more powerfull then the frontal one? at least thats what was in the show. They were siege weapons with biggest firepowed klingons mounted on ship till now.
Wait. When did you mention its appearance in the mirror universe? I didn’t hear that.
I thought those underwent cannons were external tanks.
I wonder about Regent Worfs massive Negh'var
It has fhe feel of a Kligon "Borg Killer" ship
Did we ever really see these again after Way of the Warrior aside from the mirror universe episode?
Now that you mention it, i don't think we do in DS9 but the class I think did show up in an episode of Voyager in the final season when a future Janeway goes back in time.
Meanwhile Starfleet makes over a dozen different ship types at a time... two dozen?
No doubt the Klingons will still be using the Negh'Var for at least a century or more.
It may even outlast the Excelsior.....
I wish the bortasqu dreadnought cannon.
dont underestimate the defiant!
Definitely the most badass Klingon ship, until the Star Trek Online variants lol
Since you compared its size to the sovereign, does it have 24, 26 or 29 decks 🤔
🖖
this is part of the reason the Federations Sovereign class didt go into huge battles against the Dominion, also later the Romulan De'Derirex class.
Please say that again. I couldn't understand your thoughts.
*MEV!*
The D'Deridex wants to know your location.
SPACE!!!
Please dont call the giga cannon "main forward disruptor". Its insulting.
Sorry, the "Main Problem Solver"
Da DA da DA da DAAAAA. da DA da da da da DAAAAA!
Glory to the House of Kryp! Qapla'!
And it has red and green port/starboard lights - just like the seagoing vessels of Earth! 🤣
