    I like the idea of the Dominion operating around a principle of threes which each step being an escalation/more focused approach. First they send in the Vorta, then the Jem'Hadar and then the Founders. Same with their ships; first the fighter, then the cruiser and then the battleship.

    • @Gigas0101
      @Gigas0101 2 месяца назад +15

      Agreed, but I feel like the order might go Vorta, Founder, Jem'Hadar. The Vortas show up to play nice and try to win you over through diplomacy. The Founders replace key figures and begin sewing discord and subterfuge. If neither approach works, the Jem'Hadar drags what little survives into the Dominion.
      Bit of a dumb nitpick on my end but I was just remembering the "find the founder" pre-war stuff from the show. 100% agreed on the ships, though. I love the "We tried to be nice, now we gotta escalate" mentality.

    • @tomgon3D
      @tomgon3D 2 месяца назад +6

      @@Gigas0101 It depends on the situation. The Founders don't like to get involved unless they have to. It basically goes Diplomacy > Force > Subversion. One does not replace the other. They complement each other. Technically subversion is a logical second step but again, the Founders don't bother and Jem'Hadar are cheap.

    • @kaitlyn__L
      @kaitlyn__L 2 месяца назад +1

      @@Gigas0101 that's the route they take with the Federation, but what we hear from conquered/convinced worlds in the Gamma Quadrant it seems the Jem'hadar are just sent in if the Vorta fail in most cases.
      After all, many regarded the Founders as somewhat of a myth, and had no idea they were changelings/shapeshifters.
      The Federation seems to have been a pretty unique case, between their intel, connection with Odo, and wide geographic (spatial? stellar?) range compared to most Dominion-conquered worlds.
      Even with cases like Bajor, they first separated them from the rest of the Federation. Suggesting the Federation was too big to take on at once even for the Dominion's sizeable industrial base (remembering that the faction which caused trouble up until the end of season 7, was just whatever had managed to get through the wormhole before the start of season 6...)

      They were set up to lose even before the war. They were the closest major power to the wormhole with shipyards and bases to hold off a invasion. The Changelings used the Klingons to cripple their military and industrial capacity and drive them to the Dominion. Once the war was won the Dominion would have dismantled the Cardassian union and put the Vorta in control.

  • @casbot71
    @casbot71 2 месяца назад +10

    The Dominion probably had these in the Gamma Quadrant, but because they couldn't get them through the Wormhole, they had to build their own on site in the Alpha Quadrant from pre-existing designs.
    Like how they had to create shipyards for Attack fighters and a Alpha Quadrant cloning facility for Jem'Hadar soldiers (and Wayhouns).
    Having reinforcements being created in secure facilities in the Gamma Quadrant and sent through was no longer an option.
    As for the lack of long range sensors, they may have been seen as an unnecessary expense in the current situation by the Alpha branch of the Dominion caught in a War of Attrition. It's _always_ going to have an escort fleet, and be brought in to do the 'ground and pound'. The first ship encountered by the Valiant was being checked to see they'd copied the plans correctly.
    If the Dominion had not been forced back, their intent may have been to use this to sterilise Alpha Alliance planets to save the effort needed in occupying them, and as a terror weapon in that if you resist they'll bring this in and just glass your World.
    And as a 'scorched Earth' tactic when they are being driven out of enemy territory they've previously held.
    Although the Founder no doubt dreamed of using it for a literal scorched Earth one day.
    Starfleet really should have insisted on keeping one of them as 'spoils of war'.
    "It's for our fleet museum, why would we reverse engineer it? We could just pump out a battlegroup of Defiants for the equivalent resources and crew, with a lot more firepower."
    ["Did they buy that excuse?].

    By the way a side note. The only actual member of the Valiant when they attacked that Battleship was Dorian Collins. Every other crew member was killed. Of course naturally Nog and Jake escaped with Dorian. Tim Watters was very foolish to think his small ship could take out such a huge powerhouse of a ship like that. The Valiant was out numbered like what 10-1 with just weaponry alone?
    I think the battleship knew the Valiant was there all along, detected the sensor probe, hacked it and fed it false information for that "weakness" that the Valiant crew thought they discovered.

Maybe the Dominion simply took the Battleship design and scaled it up by a factor of 5. They might have been intended as orbital genocide platform from the start but were also pretty useful as capital ships for a last stand.

    Another lovely ship from the Dominion! Makes up for the fighter and then some!
    The task force that came through the wormhole was only really intended to be a vanguard. That is why they faced such problems after the wormhole was closed to them. Who knows how many of these behemoths were waiting in their own part of the galaxy. Perhaps thousands...
    This scale of capital ship is more like something you would see in Wars, not Trek. It would therefore require the same type of highly automated and highly organised social structure to supply and support it. Likely the Dominion had exactly that and the Vorta are probably far more efficient organisers and administrators than the Galactic Senate ever was.
    In fact I wonder if the Borg tangled with them and then decided to put conquest of the the Founders onto the back burner until other, less troublesome civilisations were assimilated? It could well be as with other cultures that contact with the Borg led to the evolution of an immensely powerful generation of ships to counter them, even if they were held only as paper battleships until they were specifically required.

    I have an alternate take: I like to think of these ships as ancient siege ships that prowl Dominion space. They are old and venerable and meant to hold territory. Cruisers and Attack ships are intended to take the systems. The Batttleship is intended to hold it. The wormhole mine delayed the Dominion from moving these ships into the Alpha Quandrant thus forcing the Dominion to construct their siege ships to allow them to follow through with their strategy. This is why it doesn't seem like they tested it. Its been tested and they work. Just my thoughts.

This statement would make any reason as that would mean that Excelsior class after refit was as powerfull as Lakota. Also Defiant got down fast after few short hits from a cube... It didnt tank much. But other parts do seem OK :)

      The Defiant’s power level vs other ships is wildly inconsistent across the length of the show. (Though the Lakota had been retrofitted to be much stronger than an Excelsior should have been and the Defiant still came out on top in spite of being sucker punched)
      The episode Valiant itself is one of the best examples of this. The initial battle which crippled the Valiant and killed its officers was against a Cardassian warship. 3 years earlier Tom Riker scoffed at 3 Cardassian Warships posing a credible threat to the Defiant, which Kira seemed to buy

    I like to think it's an old design, like most dominion stuff but they keep a few mothballed incase a force attacks dominion space and the attack ships and battlecrusiers aren't enough. I think in the lost dominion arc of STO that fleet had some

    The dderedex is mostly hollow. This ship would be much more massive. And therefore have. More power generation, more powerful weapons and shields.

      Starfleet's answer to ships of this scale (D'Deridex, JH Dreadnought, Reman Scimitar) was the Odyssey class.

      they have it the achille class was build to successfully counter both the dominion battleship and the superdreadnought cardassian hutet, to give some spec 8 pulse cannons, several phaser array, 6 rapid fire quantum launcher, and dorsal arrays of burs fire micro quantum capable to cripple the biggest target with their sheer number despite individually are weaker , redundancies built everywhere with 2 warp core, dual shielded and ablative armour , 4 total warp nacelle(2 on pylon and 2 imbedded in the after saucer , same for impulse to assure it can go back home eve when crippled , in the lore the prototype alone hade the highest kill counted with 2 ketracel facility destroyed and 12 wings of galor/battlecruiser defence vessel obliterated

    I don't recall. The Dominion was --- Dominant in the Gamma Quadrant. They wiped everything out over there? No neighbouring Quadrants really gave them any trouble?

    Starfleet should have get one of these after the war and place in in earth orbit, just in case the "only ship in range (aka Enterprise)" isn't there to protect earth

    Would it be as agile and powerful as the original?

    There must have been two different versions of this ship, the one in the episode Valiant, and the other version depicted in the penultimate episode of DS9.

    I'd guess that after the treaty (and even if the Dominion HAD won), they probably would have been deconstructed, and only created again if needed

      If it’s not under the command of shenzon (the Picard clone) then I think the dominion battleship takes it, it’s a brute of sheer power but shenzon had the tactical ability to match Picard and overpower several romulan warships. The Schindler may possibly be outmatched straight up but shenzon shows experience makes the difference.

  • @Futuretense101

    I'd rather battle a Borg Cube than face one of these monsters. The Borg will assimilate. If the Dominion deploys one of these...they want destruction. I don't even think an Achilles Class can stand against a Dominion Battleship!

    Ok, but WHY does a dedicated battleship staffed exclusively by disposable cloned soldiers need so many windows all over its hull? Those are structural weaknesses and wholly unnecessary.
    Even the bridges of Dominion ships are located deep within the hull (as they damn well should!) and windowless. So who are those windows for?

  • @ssyn6626
    @ssyn6626 2 месяца назад

    So they probably should have called the battle cruiser simply the dominion cruiser. So I am going to this battleship the dominion Juggernaut class, the cruiser I would the Madicore or something like that. I noticed around 4min 45 you called the Battleship the Battlecruiser, really they need to get rid of battle in the mid size ship as demonstrates it makes it too confusing.

    So personally I think this ship is a perfect example of why the federation needs something like section 31, even in times of desperation most of starfleet are of the mindset of “”we can’t do that, we’re the good guys!”” But look at in the pale moonlight, Sisco (is it Sisco or Sisko I can’t remember 🤦‍♂️) is acting like a section 31 officer in that episode yes it costs him dearly but it saves the whole Klingon race as you know the Dominion wouldn’t allow them to live their far to aggressive and it’s not a case of if but when they would rebel, the humans could be useful but it’s up in the air if they could be controlled in the dominions eyes odds are they would wipe out the humans Klingons and Romulans just to be sure, Sisco’s actions save them all but he wasn’t a starfleet officer.
    So why do I say all this? Well it’s a slow fairly cumbersome ship throw a moon at it or a large asteroid basically something big enough that it’s shield can’t stop it yes the rock will carry on its path maybe hitting a habited world but we can deal with that later, or do a version of the holdo manoeuvre (in SW it was dumb as it destroys their FTL system but in a Trek we shouldn’t have that problem).

    Shame that a photon torpedo makes the main brace of the ship turn into wet spaghetti esqu substance then it blows up
