Always fun getting a new business up and going, but you got this. At least you and your husband can handle your own repairs that is a life saver, between the time sitting in a shop just waiting for them to get to you and the extra cost of paying someone to fix it, that can break a new company quick. Not criticizing just some friendly advise! Should have started engine and checked for air leak before you put the shifter cover back on. Some times the tubing end gets screwed up on those press fit air lines and just double check its condition before putting in back in or in your case into a new fitting, sometimes you may have to nip like a 1/2" off the tubing to get good contact surface!
You are quite correct my friend. I find that the tubing went in tooo easy. The fitting appears to be the type whereas it goes in it tightens with the grooves on the inside tubing end of the fitting.
Can do attitude! Learning how the truck functions. Is this the first time you've seen a clutch repair? Encouraging husband! Yeah, he's one lucky guy! So are you to have him in your life! Hopefully making it big on RUclips! (Don't see why you won't!) I follow a gal who just started farming. Her channel blew up on the first year! Friendly smile and personality!
You did a great job fixing that air line 👍! I have been around lots of drivers that wouldn't have the slightest idea of what to do! I'm glad you are all fixed up and gonna be back on the road 👍. You need to put together a emergency kit. Hope you don't laugh but I always had a small set of wrenches, pliers and screwdriver, hammer,a few tarp straps, baleing wire and duct tape 😂. I've made it home safe on a wing and a prayer many times that way. I'm sure it wasn't DOT approved but made it home 👏. Wish you the best of luck as an owner operator, stay safe and God bless 👍👍
Since you're new to owning a truck here's a pointer that will save you thousands of dollars, never buy parts from the dealer (Kenworth, Peterbilt, ect...) unless absolutely necessary. For parts like that air fitting most Napa auto parts has most of that stuff, most of my truck part's I buy from Fleet Pride or if you can find a local parts supplier you'll find that you'll save a ton of money each year. You should also get you a decent toolbox and tool assortment along with an electrical kit with different connectors and a variety of air fittings and air hose splices and different sizes of ferals for air fitting, trust me you'll eventually going to need them at the worst possible time. Most of the time it will be another driver needing one of those things and you can help them out and will build a good working relationship with other owner ops that will end up paying huge dividends down the road (getting good jobs or when you might need help). Also get you an account at the parts stores even if it's a cash account because they'll give you a discount.
It's amazing how a little part is so important to drive and work, know what you mean about a storm going through storm here in TX can blow through in an hour then nothing but sun and humidity
I see stuff bungee corded all the time but it tends to be things like a step hood or bumper. In my experience the quick connect fittings are pretty prone to leaking air. Normally if I find one leaking I just replace the fitting with a ferule fitting and trim the end of the air line a little bit and the leak is gone almost 100% of the time. Those fittings are a little more expensive and require wrenches but worth it. I have also found that after fixing an air leak another pops up especially if it is a bigger air leak since the new spot is getting more air pressure to it now. Soapy water in a spray bottle is your best friend when looking for air leaks.
You mentioned that you're going to look like you don't know what you're doing. However, you're not afraid to put it out there for all of the critics to view! I have a few videos on my channel. I need to be more like you a just put it out there and make more videos! Oh, you did a very nice job replacing that fitting! And you did it in the correct order. Plastic air lines are made to flex. And, as others have mentioned, there are other sources for those small parts. The big *K* probably has a bit more markup on them. Enjoying the ride with you!
