yes - there were so many knock on's and scrambling possession that just looked very ragged and poor - then bad throws into the LO - then coming into rucks from the wrong side (on one occasion two Springboks dived in from the wrong side - surely after so many years of playing these players should know when they are coming in from the wrong side..anyway..) then going offside then Ox comes on and the whole game changed...

As a South African, that was physically and mentally exhausting to watch. The only emotion felt at the end of the game was relief. England did everything that was asked of them. Their starting 15 were better than their counterparts by a substantial margin. The final result was solely because SA have the best bench in world rugby and, once again, saved our skins. Not sure if they can do that 3 games on the trot.

Everyone wrote us off; we found a way to win every game through the group stages and quarter-final and then performed like lions in the semi-final. The game was definitely won from the 2 side's respective benches no doubt. Rassie is a genius but he got this one wrong. We needed some rotation in this game for freshness. Moody, Esterhuizen, Wiese etc. We lacked energy and focus all game, totally outplayed by England for 67 minutes. Now we have a problematic situation before next week where we have players overdone and players who could have played today underdone. We have probably the best strenght in depth in the tournament, yet we have failed to use it to advantage in the money time. We very nearly paid the price tonight, we may the price next week.

Yeah a bit too over eager and too many mind games. The weather forecast was for rain a week ago as well. To start an attacking 9/10 was a dumb move. Aesterhuzien possibly Am should have been the centres, With Moodie in the mix as a sub Wing. Should have Jasper and possibly Kleyn in the pack and give Duane a rest. One thing - Boks will raise their level for the ABs(no need to hype them up for that) -Pray for a dry game aswell. BOks were shocking vs ROmania in the Rain for 20min, vs Eng for 70 min, The ABs will kill them if its wet. BOks survive a near death experience again, maybe its destiny now to win it!!

South Africa looked dangerous on the very few occasions they ran it. I think they played too much to the conditions whereas England were set up for exactly that situation. England were able to dictate the game and the Boks just seemed to go with it which was very surprising.

The Rain equalised the proceedings, Eng more familiar with the playing conditions, They played virtually the perfect game plan with what that squad was equipped with. I think the pressure got to Farrel with the ref chirp which led to a 10m advance on the penalty which the Boks converted. That was similar to the Ramos conversion miss. Half-time 12- 6, lead was well deserved. Then 15-6 (I think had Eng made it 18-6, the game would have been over, Ford possibly could have been brought in earlier. Boks continued kicking to Freddie Steward was painful to watch, the lineouts were a shocker. Eng came amped for this game.
Rassie a lucky bugger - the starting XV was flat from last week. I think as the game progressed, Eng grew with the belief and moved slightly away from the gameplan. It almost worked. Bok bench made the difference at the end.
Boks defy death again and march on. Not the greatest of games due to the weather but both sides made it a cagey and tight encounter.

We finally caught a break in 67th minute and fired (for me) our 2nd shot of the game, the Cheslin grubber to Willie was our 1st shot in the game.
Kudos to England man, their maul D in the first half was unreal! The created a sort of corridor that the Boks pack had to slalom through and once that snake had been created, they didn't have to necessarily enter the maul from the front. Couldn't understand why Boks weren't kicking for goal! Hats off to Borthwick and Maro for their maul D prep, it was so good! Honestly ABs could look into that. Faz, Big Courts, Daly, Air Freddie, Ben Earl all these guys played amazing. Hats off to England man, we just scrapped through into the final!

The England choices in the backline was Borthwick screaming "please kick to us" before the game and taking high balls is (to be a bit controversial) probably the only thing Freddie Steward is really good at. Rassie obliged though and they just kept going on and on with the ineffective kicking until there was about 15 minutes left when they switched it up and actually started looking like a team that means business. England controlled this game and South Africa played right into their hands with their tactics. I think Rassie has to take the blame for this perfiormance but he seems to want to blame his players instead. Hopefully it doesn't backfire.

SA fan, but not sure why everyone thought that England would be easy. They are almost always competitive when they need to be and are always tough. Their results in the less important games are meaningless, they never show their full strength until they need to.
England out thought & out played SA for 67 -70 minutes.
Normally SA can adapt to changing circumstances (under Rassie anyway) but today we were poor at adapting to the weather, the ref & the English team & to the pattern England were playing. Why we continued to kick the high ball to England when they were clearly very comfortable receiving it and beating us at the high ball contests I do not know.

They made the bokke look ordinary but we knew better that the slowing of the game down intentionally was their trademark. Was sitting on the couch awaiting the lion to erupt as proding incessantly would surely get a response! Didn't take long after Rassie completed some changes in the 75th, the lion was awakened. The casual penalty from half way had me stunned the way Pollard drilled it through the uprights. Well done to England 👏 .

I agree with most comments that England used the weather conditions to their advantage. I think apart from SA working more on their attacking approach to the game, I think Rassie and Jacques needs to put more focus on improving their game plan in weather conditions like this. Props to Rassie for making all those changes early on in the game. At first glance I thought what the hell was he thinking to make these changes in the first half, however now I see the difference it made in the end result. Personally I think Ox and Pollard were the best changes he made as they won this game for the Boks. Even with the odds stacked against us the entire game I must commend SA's determination and fighting spirit as they never gave up throughout the game. Pollard had little game play the entire world cup but man I have never see a player as cool as a cucumber under immense pressure when kicking a penalty from the halfway line.

This was a nail-biting affair from a South African perspective. England totally dominated during the first 75% of the game and deserved to be in the lead. Credit to the "never say die" attitude of the Boks - to absorb that pressure the way they did during the last 20 minutes, and then to ultimately pip the English at the post was excellent.
One thing that I have to comment on was what Farrell didn't say during his post-match interview - not one word of praise or congratulations towards the South Africans. I can understand that he is hurting after losing, but the term "gracious in defeat" comes to mind. He certainly wasn't - just a sour loser, and this is part of the reason why so many non-English fans do not respect nor like him. Compare his interview to those of Siya, Handre and Jacques, all three of them praised England, the effort they put in, and how much they pushed the Boks - especially Siya. What an excellent, humble captain he is - worlds ahead of Farrell!

Minor tweaks like that could've done a world of difference.
Jesse Kriel looked like Ali vs Frazier last weekend and he's expected to do it again this week, I don't know if that's arrogance or stupidity

And too late now. It was the first blink of our World Cup. I know we barely won and what we have in starting centres but Wiese, Esterheizen and Moodie would've injected alot of fresh legs and knowing you may not be in the final they would've played with that extra 10% we were missing. You know if you 10% less against NZ you not winning that game.

Sometimes you lose but you still feel like you can hold your head up. Congrats to SA but I'm all behind NZ for the final now!

I almost wanted to give up. But i know from experience south Africa never give up in Rugby. I remember in the 80's south africa played England. At newlands it was the last minute of the game and the Bokke was behind. Just a few seconds before the final whistle they won the game.

As an English man I'm proud of how our team played against a team that on paper should've put 20+ points on us, but (and not to sound bitter) at least 4 unstraight line outs weren't called (that were visibly clear to the naked eye) I feel the better team lost, but after the game last night this proved a more than worthy semi final, and although it's an ageing England team and Borthwick went conservative with his selection we can be proud of how we played. The future will be different for both teams but this was a semi final worthy of its own place in the history of this world cup

NZ had to do a lot of tackling in their game though, 185 tackles or something. Wet game meant more stoppages so SA was just over 100. Might help recovery time

England play best with a chip on their shoulders - they embrace being the heels. That said, RSA looked tired (w/good reason). Fix the lineouts - Bongeni throws are inconsistent but back your jumpers. Biggest worry is the lack of dominance at breakdown and jackaling...

The english played a super game tactically, and controlled the game fsntasticly. To my abject horror it looked like they had it wrapped up at 15-6. South Africa made some key substitutions and outmuscled the english to snatch victory with a few deft kicks. Congratulations to South Africa from us all in Wales ❤
