I cut mine in half, scoop out the seeds put butter and brown sugar in the hole and wrap in foil and bake. When cooked scoop out the squash. That is how my husband likes his squash.
I am seriously so grateful that your videos are CLEAN! There are so many channels out that with vulgarity and profanity, but I love that I can share your videos with my daughters as we're exploring healthy recipes and having fun in the kitchen. THANK YOU!!
+Rosette Pine Thank you, I really appreciate this comment because this is something very important to me :) I make huge efforts to keep this channel accessible to all ages, so thank you and thank you for sharing the channel with your daughters!! So glad you can enjoy time together in the kitchen :) Cheers!
Hi munchies! Today I’m sharing 4 different ways to prep a butternut squash… PLUS a bonus recipe for those of you who make it to the end :) What’s your favorite way to enjoy butternut squash!?
+Mind Over Munch I like peeling the whole butternut squash. Throw the peels away. Continue peeling the squash to make a type of butternut squash noodle. As you peel it, they curl up and are so cute. Then I use a lightly greased casserole dish. Toss all the "noodles" in, stir in some meat sauce/pasta sauce(I like using ground turkey or ground chicken for the meat sauce). Spread some croutons over the top. Add a little parm cheese and top with some cheddar or mozza cheese. Bake in the oven. It's so delicious. My whole family loves it and has much less calories than a real pasta or lasagna dish. Oh yeah!!! Don't forget to save the seeds!! :D :D
My favorite way to cook it is very simple but healthy: just cut the butternut Squash into cubes then steam the cubes in a pot. Finally add some honey. Then it's done ^_^
I've always cut into cubes and boiled til soft. Then just add butter and a little sugar. Sooo yummy! But I want to try baking or microwaving next time, thanks!
Great video as always :) Quick tip: Don't be afraid to fill up your oven with other veggies such as cauliflower and carrots when you're baking the squash. They last a few days in the fridge and I often throw roast veg into salads or just snack on them. Leftovers can puree it down into a tasty dip or just thrown in the freezer for later.
I've never made a butternut squash but I am planning on making it in cube form with cinnamon and salt and pepper, then baking the seeds with paprika, salt, and pepper! Thanks for sharing the recipes!
I really love videos like this -- they take the fear out of those less used veggies. It would be awesome if you did more videos like these with those not as common vegetables -- Ie Brussels sprouts, Bok Choy, turnip, beets, etc. Thanks Alyssia!!
I am so glad I found your video December 2021 !!! I have never cooked a squash so I peeled and diced and baked...yummy, thank you it came so soft and moist, I will be adding this to my Christmas dinner table...Thank you again for keeping it simple and easy
I have never cooked squash but I planted one plant this year and your far it's yeilded about 30+ so I may end up trying all four methods by the time all the squash are ready to be picked :) thanks
Annette Robertson you are blessed! I planted one pumpkin and it has don3 almost nothing. A few flowers but none made fruit- I think maybe it needed a husband plant!
I love pumpkin seeds, here in México they are called "pepitas" and they are sold wherever you go. But squashes are only available in fall. Looking forward to try this!!!
Hi. For the very first time I am cooking butter nut squash right now.I have chosen the cubed method mixed with a little flavoured oil and chilli and garlic salt. Wish me luck and thanks for the cooking lesson x
@@mintbutterfly10 Sounds great, very satisfying growing them from teeny seeds and seeing them all sitting orange and pretty in top of the soil. Good luck for next season 👍
I just halved mine, put it face down in a glass baking dish with a little bit of water and baked the halves at 400 degrees for 65 minutes, piercing the skin with a fork......they came out perfect and I added butter and brown sugar. Mmm....yummy! Thanks for the tips
I really like the' bake it in the oven before cutting it open' method. You're right....squash seems very intimidating. It would be so worth the effort though. Hope you have a great weekend:))
Thank you so much. We grew butternut squash in our garden this summer and we have lots of it. I tried the first method and it turned out perfect. Butternut squash is so delicious. I love it!
I just started making my own pumpkin and butternut squash puree; came here for some ideas. I really like your instant pot one; will have to try this method next, thanks!
I usually microwave the squash for a few minutes to get it softer to cut and it makes it a LOT easier to cube. I do a butternut squash casserole with kale and turkey sausage, then I do a banging butternut squash soup. Couldn't ever get use to it the sweet way though!
I like butternut squash soup too. I roast (olive oil, salt cayenne pepper--to taste) the squash, onions, garlic and a Granny Smith apple, peeled and cored. Once done, I puree all ingredients with homemade veggie stock. I make sure to cube some of the squash for texture. I have it with a piece of artisan bread. Good stuff. How do you make yours?
For those of us who don't use oil. Placing the cubes into the oven on a non stick pan sans oil and it comes out awesome. Thanks for showing us how you do it.
a nice, cheerful and useful video for anyone who has never cooked butternut squash. Great job! I love Butternut, delicious veggie. I like to roast it in half, but i slice through the flesh first to almost cube it in the skin. slice to just near the bottom all the way along in two directions, then rub over some oil, some ground allspice, salt, pepper then cut a few garlic cloves in half and rub them all over the flesh. pop the garlic in the hole where the guts where and roast that for about half an hour. Serve with some roasted chestnut mushrooms, red onions, crispy maple glazed bacon lardons, fresh parsley or basil and some crumbled feta! delicious as a salad on its own or accompanied with a meal. I also love to puree butternut squash. Cube your butternut squash and then cook in some butter and spices of your choice on a low heat in a covered pan until soft, then blitz with a blender till smooth. This technique is delicious mixed into a nice rissotto or served as an accomplishment to a good steak
Have never eaten a Butternut Squash, but grew some this past season. I am going to try the cut in half method, bake in the oven, and use a little butter and cinnamon. I cherish sweet potatoes and cook them whole, so I'd probably prefer this method. Thanks for this video.
I'm going to try baking it whole and then cutting it. Looks easiest and fastest. Great energy in the presentation. Love it! After the first time I will try the other options. Thanks.
Tried this tonight. Cut it in half, salt, pepper and olive oil on both halves. One half got cinnamon, the 2nd one got Old Bay. Both are delicious! Thanks for the inspiration! Yum!
Just learned of the wonderful butternut squash and have spent 2 weeks exploring how to cook this gourd. Your video is by far the most informative and entertaining. Thank you all you do!
I tried the cube oven baked and decided it was worth the work out. I volunteered to make them for Easter. So much work. I hadn't thought of using a carrot peeler to get the rind off. Will try soon.
Very engaging presentation here, my friend! I'm a 1st-timer, prompted by my friend who frequently Bakes a Butternut. My local store has resisted my quest for emulation by being sans-squash for the last 4 shopping ventures, either whole or pre-cubed. Today, aha! Success! I'm quite glad I found this episode of yours and will proceed amply advised. Thank you!
It is finally in the oven. It's been sitting on my counter throughout the winter. It is in the oven tonight, cut and covered with olive oil, salt, pepper, nutmeg and cinnamon. It is becoming a side dish for meatloaf and rice. I really love your video here.
1 cup mashed, cooked butternut squash 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper 1 pinch cayenne pepper 1/2 cup mascarpone cheese 1 egg yolk 1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese 1 (16 ounce) package round wonton wrappers 2 tablespoons butter 1 clove garlic, unpeeled chopped fresh sage to taste 1 tablespoon grated Parmesan cheese, or to taste Place cooked squash into a mixing bowl. Add salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. Stir in mascarpone cheese, egg yolk, and 1/3 cup Parmesan cheese, mixing until the filling is smoothly combined. Place a wonton wrapper onto a working surface. Wet the tip of a finger in water, and run it all along the outer edge of the wonton skin to moisten. Place about 1 teaspoon of filling in the center of the wonton. Fold the wonton in half to make a half-moon shape, and press the edges to seal. Repeat with the remaining wonton wrappers. Place a deep skillet over medium-low heat. Stir in butter and unpeeled clove of garlic. Remove garlic after two minutes and continue on low until butter is slightly brown. Meanwhile, bring a saucepan of lightly salted water to a boil. Drop the filled raviolis into the boiling water, a few at a time, and cook until they float to the top, about 2 minutes. Drain the raviolis, and transfer them to the skillet. Turn the heat under the skillet up to medium-high, and cook just until the raviolis are infused with garlic flavor, about 2 or 3 more minutes. Sprinkle with chopped sage, more black pepper, and extra Parmesan cheese to taste.
I just harvested my crop of butternut squash, yesterday I cut one in half sprinkled with salt and pepper then wrapped in foil and placed cut side down on my grill for about 45 minutes, they turned out excellent! Thanks for the video by the way
I love the way you explain how to make the butternut squash, today is the day I try to make it roasted. My Aunt has been making it for my uncle and he's loving it, so todays the day, wish me luck.
My favorite way is to roast it cut in half lengthwise and then make a little savory (or sweet if you want, maple syrup and cinnamon, yum!) bread pudding mixture and fill the cavity with it. You can mix in a little lean sausage, sage, rosemary and a nice seedy bread with some egg and milk or water, bake it just like normal (making sure it doesn't burn, so you might want to cover it in foil when it starts to brown) and it's delicious! Plus you can get a little protein in without having to waste another pan!
Have the oven on now and totally blanked on what i needed to flavor to bake on the 2nd recipe and came here to get all the answers i needed. Plus i love your attitude. Thanks
I am shocked that she didn't put sugar. In Australia, we put in sugar and butter (yes butttttttttter) ... yum :) The sugar and butter is always added in last to save calories and actually get a nice taste of it. I know others put cinnamon but I hate that ..... cinnamon belongs in baked goods (LOL)! I will try this this evening for supper :)
in Belgium the same way :) ! extra butter ( real butter not margarine like some seem to do eww ) and a lot of people use sugar while I use honey instead ...

Thank you for this video!!! My husband came home with 2 butternut squashes someone had given to him. I have never cooked a butternut squash. Your explanations on how to cook them is straight forward and doesn't need any kind of strange ingredients (translation: something I don't already have in my kitchen). - - Edit: I cut it in half and baked it. I served it with butter and cinnamon as a vegetable side dish rather than regular baked potato.
My mom always cut it in half lengthwise, scoop out the seeds, and put a nice ball of any sausage in the seed area and when done add brown sugar, cinnamon and maybe some ground cloves and butter, like a sweet potato! So delish!
I have made butternut squash for YEARS!! Never tried your ways except the seed preparation. I love to cut it in half lengthwise, "de-seed", and then place meat side up with brown sugar, cinnamon, and butter in the bowl part of squash.... gotta have a fair bit of butter! Bake at 325 for 30-40 minutes or until meat is tender. YUMMY! Reminiscent of the loaded sweet potatoes at our favorite steakhouses!
I made my first butternut squash last night I peeled cut into cubes and made roasted garlic Parmesan butternut squash with quinoa amazing!!! It was so good!! 😊
I just came home and my retired dad (Henry) showed me this video that he used to cook butternut squash (the 3rd method). We're about to try it now. Just wanted to say this video was so easy and fun to watch. We'll definitely be back to see what other videos you have.
First timer 🥳 I’m going to try halfs and bake with coconut oil or maple syrup, black pepper and Himalayan pink salt and a dash of iodized salt. Thanks for the video
Thank you. I needed a refresher. I’m going to cut a smallish one in half, scoop out the seeds and bake. I do not think I will roast the seeds this time but I do like them.
I've used your 3rd method previously but after I diced them up, rather than in the oven, I've put them in my smaller crock pot with the temp turned to medium for about 6 hours. Frees up your oven during the holiday cooking. ! 😊
I bought some of these and the place to go to find out how to cook it is YOUR CHANNEL! I love your longer info vids and vids like these. The best resource on YT! That's MIND OVER MUNCH! Always!
Never cooked one, but I did mine the way you split it, baste with olive oil, salt, pepper, cinnamon and brown sugar for 1 hour. I must say it turned out pretty good. My next ? was about the seeds, but you covered that, Thanks for sharing
This video arrived in perfect time!!! My menu today was butternut squash macaroni and cheese. I didn't have a lot of time to bake the squash. The microwave was never a thought until your video. And guess what! It worked perfectly. And the macaroni was delicious! Thank you!!!
I cut mine into wedges, and put olive oil, salt and pepper..then roast them. Seeds I do the same way as Alyssia, and I use a sprinkling of Garlic powder and stir in all in, then cook the same way. 🥜🥜 glad iv got one in, I fancy some seeds now!
I cut mine in half, scoop out the seeds put butter and brown sugar in the hole and wrap in foil and bake. When cooked scoop out the squash. That is how my husband likes his squash.

Ha Ha.....love those.....nosey neighbors of yours.....!!!
I would recommend that you should not put olive oil on it if you are going to bake it at 400° F, as this is beyond the smoke point of olive oil.
yes, light olive oil is fine though as it has a higher smoke point. I would avoid using extra virgin olive oil at high temperatures.
Butternun
John Doe what should we use instead?
Stunningly confident ,makes all so easy and your charector lifts the soul . WELL DONE
thank you :)
Do you really talk like that?? I love how you talk
haha, thank you! Yes!
My mom always cut it in half lengthwise, scoop out the seeds, and put a nice ball of any sausage in the seed area and when done add brown sugar, cinnamon and maybe some ground cloves and butter, like a sweet potato! So delish!
"and its a vegetable". Its a fruit though :P.
Yes it is!
Awesome!! Thank you :)
I made my first butternut squash last night I peeled cut into cubes and made roasted garlic Parmesan butternut squash with quinoa amazing!!! It was so good!! 😊
+Katherine Lauer OMG that sounds fantastic!! I wish I'd been there! :)
+Mind Over Munch I was just happy that I enjoyed it and even more so that my husband liked it!!
+Katherine Lauer Yes! That's so rewarding and satisfying :) Thanks for trying it out!
I just came home and my retired dad (Henry) showed me this video that he used to cook butternut squash (the 3rd method). We're about to try it now. Just wanted to say this video was so easy and fun to watch. We'll definitely be back to see what other videos you have.
That's so awesome! Glad this video was useful for both of you! Thanks so much for the feedback :) happy to have you here!
Thx for the tips. ❤
Great video, I made it half way in the microwave while preheating the oven.
Then baked it at 400 for 20 mins with cinnamon and brown sugar.
Yummy
YUM sounds delicious! Glad you tried it out!
First timer 🥳
I’m going to try halfs and bake with coconut oil or maple syrup, black pepper and Himalayan pink salt and a dash of iodized salt.
Thanks for the video
Thank you.
I needed a refresher.
I’m going to cut a smallish one in half, scoop out the seeds and bake.
I do not think I will roast the seeds this time but I do like them.
NEVER cooked a butter nut, but I'm gonna try the split, clean, season, n bake method. THANKS FOR UR VIDEO! 👌
I've used your 3rd method previously but after I diced them up, rather than in the oven, I've put them in my smaller crock pot with the temp turned to medium for about 6 hours. Frees up your oven during the holiday cooking. ! 😊
It's my first time, I'll try the third method. Thanks❤❤❤❤
I bought some of these and the place to go to find out how to cook it is YOUR CHANNEL! I love your longer info vids and vids like these. The best resource on YT! That's MIND OVER MUNCH! Always!
WOW that is a huge compliment, thank you so much!! I'm so happy to hear you enjoy and find these videos useful :)
You are a doll! Thanks and we are going to cut in half and bake!
Thank you 🤗
The fact that I'm 2 minutes into this video and I've 2 ways to cook the butternut squash. thank you for being concise!
Never cooked one, but I did mine the way you split it, baste with olive oil, salt, pepper, cinnamon and brown sugar for 1 hour. I must say it turned out pretty good. My next ? was about the seeds, but you covered that, Thanks for sharing
that sounds tasty!!
This video arrived in perfect time!!! My menu today was butternut squash macaroni and cheese. I didn't have a lot of time to bake the squash. The microwave was never a thought until your video. And guess what! It worked perfectly. And the macaroni was delicious! Thank you!!!
+mynatural destiny Oh that's so perfect! So glad it worked for you :) Thank you! That mac & cheese sounds amazing!
I cut mine into wedges, and put olive oil, salt and pepper..then roast them. Seeds I do the same way as Alyssia, and I use a sprinkling of Garlic powder and stir in all in, then cook the same way. 🥜🥜 glad iv got one in, I fancy some seeds now!
awesome!!
