The instant death while reflecting damage is from hitting yourself with a +400% damage projectile. Since Destiny doesn't utilize actual hitscan instances of damage, (Instead using regular projectiles with their trajectory set to an insanely high value, think 9999 or something similar) It is possible to stand in the way of a projectile as it's flight path is changed and hit yourself with it.
That makes so much sense now. I was always so confused how the +400% damage I was blocking was getting through and reflecting on myself. Do you know why bungie doesn’t just use hit scan? Wouldn’t that make their life easier lol
@@jimjamjon2285At one point I believe Joker made a video about fusions and if I recall at some point fusions were projectile based and then moved to a sort of hit scan.
If what I recall is even partially accurate then they can do it. They just don't. Again if I am accurate why don't they? I kind of wonder if it they did swap to it would it change how the game feels? Maybe we'd have more ghost bullets? Maybe it'd require changes to weapon rpms that'd make them more broken? Maybe they can't properly get it right on the engine they use? There's a number of hypotheticals.
Now that mention it I've never seen that question asked in a dev interview.
This happens regardless of using Blight Ranger. It just happens every so often whenever reflecting, it doesn't require the Blight Ranger damage boost to kill you. It is so incredibly frustrating in Crucible because it basically gives your enemy the kill for free (and you lose the rest of your Staff too)
@@Tahu33446 I wonder if its because some weapons like GLs and rockets have slower travel time its easier to just have each archetype set to a speed value rather than custom tuning hitscan vs projectile for each archetype
Antaeus wards used to do the same thing before they made them lame.
So glad that conditional is less seen in this meta because it feels so fucking bad to get frozen/ignited through your deflect in arc staff.
Really hope the Blight Ranger buff does it justice.
My idea for the buff: giving blink astroycete treatment and blind effect once you past an enemy.

Maybe not blind but jolt instead? That way there’s still the arc synergy and it can proc amplified or something, I do really want blight ranger to be Hunter astrocyte too

I still am in the spinfoil camp that Blight Ranger was always intended to be a Graviton Forfeit ornament for the 30th Anniversary update.
Thank you for making this video 🙏. This exotic is so fun to use but it’s absolutely unusable due to the random (and quite frankly VERY common) misadventure deaths. If bungie fixed this I would be glued to this exotic but I doubt they ever will sadly

Make blight ranger (or rajius) increase the amount of time enemies are effect by arc debuffs drastically. I imagine one flashbang keeping a champ blinded for like 12 seconds

It’s definitely not useless, it has some genuine use in grandmasters and such- the orbs are incredible
@@jimjamjon2285I think it was about three TWABs ago, but they mentioned that Blight Ranger, Mask of the Quiet One, and Skull of Dire Ahamkara are getting buffs/reworks, along with many more changes to other exotics for utility boosts.
They said these would be revealed closer to Revenants launch.
Hoping it's this week's TWAB, but if not, then maybe this Wednesday?

With a couple tweaks i would be a huge fan of this mode, but as it currently stands, they should rename this variant to "Iron Banner: Mercy"
Iron banner has truly never been this bad before, from the amount of ammo and supers it literally feels like mayhem clash.
This might be the only recorded instance of Blight Ranger doing absolutely anything ever at all.

And when someone shot me point blank with merciless but i was reflecting with arc staff mid super animation
Honestly, they could buff it by just adding the reflect to tempest strike (kinda like antaeus with a longer cd) and making it so you can't kill youself with your reflected projectiles (could even lead to some fun rocket/nade jump plays)
It would be fun if we had an Exotic that allows us to consume our super and have a really powerful arc overshield that blocks and reflects half the damage taken or something along those lines

I just cant understand why people dont know to NOT SHOOT AN ARCSTAFF HUNTER WHILE BLOCKING! Like i think its just crazy how long people have played the game for and everone just shoots them.
I remember getting shot by chaperone while guarding in this super using raidens flux. I never used it again.

Instead of bad juju i found having a full set of the dealer's choice weapons from the pale heart work way better. Even a player as bad as me is easily getting 2 supers a match with them.

Eruption being a party mode is right. I run pretty low Intel in PvP (20-30 max) and one match I got it 3 times. Personally, I don’t mind it too much tho

None of his problems have to do with the game mode, it’s really fucking weird the forced hatred for eruption y’all have. The circlejerking is crazy, cause not being on destiny twitter and having stopped watching and unfollowed all the destiny creators you find out really fast how wrong they are and my lobbies don't take more than a minute to fill and the only time the mode sucks is when you play against a 6 stack
