I think you misunderstand Thor's character arc. He lost everything due to his arrogance so his progression into a depressed fat drunkard makes sense when you look at where he has come from and what he has lost. And it would have cheapens the consequences of his actions if they just magically fixed him and made him badass again. You can't undo years of regression with just a pep talk, though he now has the motivation to go on he needs to regain his status.
scarlett johansson is a great actor
My friend showed me an article that said that the entire thing about Endgame is that it is supposed to sacrifice plot to give a ton of fan service for people who’ve seen 22 movies. That doesn’t mean I like it, though.
Holy crap, Ben's is the first negative review I've seen so far.

Bryon Grosz I completely agree, but I don’t think he was arguing that Ben should like it because otherwise it would upset his wife. What he said about chris evans was kind of true in my opinion. I'm a big marvel fan and I've always had that feeling that Chris Evans could have done more for steve like his acting was to cool for what captain America rlly means, but yeah
He also doesnt know how strong base thanos is and how weak fat thor is
Right so true
I don't know, I don't really feel Ben's arguments here - I don't feel like it was a bad flick on its own, what bugged me were the the illogical parts and just stupid decisionmaking throughout the movie, including the major plot parts, like:
- how the f*ck did they return all the people at the same place when Earth moves at like 70 thousand miles an hour in forward motion and is never going to be at the same spot it was before
- like when they were talking about the time travel and basically sh*t on the logic of other time travel movies BUT THEN DO EXACTLY THE SAME THING
- It's just stupid how they try to make the entire world unable to move on 5 YEARS after the people get snapped away. Of course some people are going to cope slower than others but they portray the earth as a complete sh*thole where you couldn't get trash collecting services running after 5 years which is bullsh*t
- Why didn't Dr Strange or the chinese guy just snap Thanos' head off with those portals? Didn't they make exactly the same thing with some other folk's hand before?
- Thanos sending that cyborg girl (whom he knew had some loyalty issues before) for the EXTREMELLY important stone (or gauntlet, I don't remember) in the ruins of the avengers HQ instead of getting it himself... Surprise surprise he didn't get the item.
- When Captain America brought a good point about the bright side of the snap, mentioning how the wild life is slowly coming back, and the Black Widow basically just told him he's an idiot... Like no, no he isn't, he made a good point.
- More of a point about both Avengers movies, but... It was clearly shown that Thanos can turn people into some kind of jello with the red stone (like he did with the grey guy and the assassin girl before). Why didn't he do the same with all his enemies?
And stuff like that... Overall the movie was rather enjoyable, but purely from the visual side of things. The story was meh.

So you have seen Captain Marvel.
@Snehil Shrey Sorry, I don't understand. What am I being ignorant about? I was just expressing that I didn't enjoy Captain Marvel in a joking kinda way.
Snehil Shrey Joke totally went over your head.
@Snehil Shrey Hopefully you end up locked in a cage MCU shittard
@Snehil Shrey Because I held out hope for Captain Marvel being a good movie. I honestly don't give a shit around the politics around Brie Larson, but Carol Danvers' character is a Mary Sue and has very little growth. On a side note, I'm all for equal treatment of men and women, believe me, but the forced feminist themes felt, well, forced.
@Snehil Shrey I'd also like to question what part of my joke, emphasis on the joke part, was misogynistic? I was criticising a poorly written character in a mediocre movie. In comparison, I liked Wonder Woman, I actually enjoyed the new Ghostbusters to an extent and I look forward to the Black Widow solo movie and the new Men in Black featuring a female lead. Of course, I doubt you'll believe me. Such is the way of the internet, after all.
Ben, I'm a hundred percent on your side whenever we talk about political matters. But MCU doesn't care about your feelings.
Airam Lenner I am a HUGE mcu fan and I have to agree with most of the things Ben says here. Thor was one of my favorite characters and they completely and unnecessarily ruined him. I also agree that there are very many plot holes and inconsistencies.

@@rbrotherton0267 not all 21 matter to Endgame.
@@drex8891 If you watched them all you would see every single movie ties in quite nicely to endgame. Whether its the easter eggs or visions or whatever. All the movies are connected to endgame and reference the final movie. Every...... Single..... One
@@drex8891 For example red skull is referenced in infinity war. Captain america's special injections were referenced in the incredible hulk, Tony stark has a vision in age of ultron where everyone is defeated and Cap says you could have saved us.... Thor has a vision of the gauntlet in Age of ultron.... Thor ragnarok shows that asguardians resort to alcohol abuse after losing a significant fight. Both valkyrie and thor abused alcohol. There are loads of plot details that are scattered all over the MCU and it is what makes marvel so awesome that you can rewatch all the movies and find easter eggs and references everywhere..... I mean stan lee was an easter egg in just about every movie.
@@Jamie-cz2xu following this logic there are 22 movies before Endgame that are necessary. Because HULK the terrible one noone talks about is the origin of the Hulk, which leads the events of The incredible Hulk since we all got an origin story first. Marvel, or the first Ant-man, GOTG2 (which is my favorite movie) isnt really necessary to Endgame, Ironman 3, etc. Yes they share the universe and yes the easter eggs are there. BUT they are NOT necessary for Endgame. Which is the point im trying to make. Not all 21 matter. Yes you can watch them and yes they are certain scenes and call backs, but they arent necessary. Mike Hawk I’m only explaining bens side of the argument. We still have good heroes to lead the mcu minus a captain marvel. In all honesty yes we lost good characters but none of the new characters have been fully developed yet, and I don’t think Ben fully understood Thor’s arc as well. The mcu will live on without iron man and captain America and yea it may feel like it’s changed, but is that really a bad thing for it to change. Only way I can see it as a bad thing is if you don’t like the direction of the mcu into space and only liked superheroes based in realism.

The first thing Iron Man says to Steve is “I lost the boy”. That was Tony’s reason to go back. He failed Peter and was willing to risk a lot to undo that.
No, that was the reason why left. He didn't want to lose more friends. He tells captain america that there are "no plans, strategy, or nothing, I'm done". He gave up. He then tells captain America that he's only here because they have new blood( captain marvel) but even then he leaves. He later decides to come back BC ant man gives him a good idea about time travel and tony also realized that with the "new blood" they have a bigger chance at winning. Hence the reason why at the end tony looks at dr. Strange when captain marvel gets knocked out by thanos and strange hold 1 finger up telling him they only have 1 chance. So tony steps up. He didn't just come back for spiderman, he came back BC he thought strange meant that captain marvel was gonna be the hero. But the hero was always himself, ironman.

Most of MCU actually.
The reason why Thor started struggling with courage is because he’s never failed like that before. He failed to kill thanos and save the world.
It's survivor's guilt
the whole fat depressed thor is actually fine in my opinion, its just the way they played it as a joke for almost the entire movie is just a little too much.
They really just butchered his entire character development from the previous films.
His dad died, his super evil sister killed huge portion of asgardians, he sacrificed asgard itself, several thousand year old kingdom to save them, he promised them a new beggining, instead he lead them to Thanos and saw half of his kingdom and his brother get murdered
God or not, you have to be depressed after shit like this
@@user-zz3sn8ky7z Yes, and all of those things are so serious that the film should have taken them, and with it his depression, just as seriously instead of treating it like a joke. Unfortunately, the MCU has always had a problem with overuse of comedy when the film should be more serious which is why the best MCU films are the ones that focus the least on comedy with the exception of Guardians where the tone of the film is lighthearted comedy throughout.

XAndroid1 not by much
Megumin.Exp If you want the movies to be the exact replica of the Comics, then why bother making movie? Why bother repeating all of the story that unfolded in the comics?
Because if you didn’t change anything no one would watch the movies.
@@Angglio That is a very incorrect statement. The Harry Potter series followed the books VERY closely as did hunger games. There wasnt any problem with those movies.
No one is asking for an exact replica but when you're going to base a film around a villain heavily prevalent in the comics, on whom we've had no info until infinity war, you should at least stay somewhat true to the comics instead of trying to build and entirely new character in the span of a few hours. I'm not saying to not give his presence any explanation, but definitely dont over stretch (or underwhelm) his abilities and they did a pretty good job of that and I think the fights he appeared in were fairly accurate without the gauntlet.

Thanos sacrificed his daughter for a better world
Tony sacrificed himself for a better world for his daughter
@@andrebreville493 he means he thought the stakes would be sacrificing his daughter. But it ended up being sacrificing his life which is the same as what he does just flying around in each Iron Man movie prior.
I think what he doesn't get is they both put the lives of their "children" on the line which makes them so similar along with the curse of knowledge. So the story becomes on oneside you have this father worship and obedience for Thanos and the other side Tony bringing back his "son" Peter who he put in jeopardy by bringing him in all of this and Morgan who is so young and will grow up fatherless like Peter.
@@andrebreville493 changing the past changing the future
you don't go to the past and change shits while the future remains the same, that's not how things work. Also, the whole bs of > if you put back the stones into its place, all is fine, is such a scapegoat
in order to get the soul stone, he has to sacrifice gamora, so when gamora died, he gets the stone, and she can't be brought back to life no matter what. so, current gamora is permanently dead whether it'll be in the past, present, or future, that's how life balance exchange works. if tony wants to save the world, the moment they all took the stones, whatever happens in the present (new lives) would disappear in exchange for tampering with time.
@@AL-fo3jj How did Tony put his daughter's life on the line? And how did he put Peter in Jeopardy? By bringing him into the Avengers in the first place? He recruited plenty of people. And it's not like he set out to make her fatherless.

I quite liked it, but I agree with the Thor thing, and about Captain Marvel.
But I'm glad she was hardly there
That's why I liked it because I have done that when I was depressed. Got really fat and didn't care about anything. And I'm glad he didn't just turn back. Oh and captain marvel took me out of the movie every time she was on screen. Especially when thanos head butted her and nothing happened. She just sucks.
I quite like what they did with the Thor character ,and it wasn't done as "fat shaming", like some would have you believe! sure they made a bit of a joke with it, but as it wore on it helped shape(no pun intended!) his character and you could see he was having fun with it! ,it brought his character to a human level with the depression angle, I felt for him as did many in the theater where I watched it!
His character was made by guilt and loss, and the arc from ragnorok to endgame is him going from able to process his loss, to being unable to stop thanos due to his ego. Ag once, all of the emotions he held back, every loss floods him at once, he wasn't good enough. That's what his arc is in endgame, him pulling himself up after being a broken man, finding purpose and becoming a hero once more
The Thor thing was basically done to ‘nerf’ him so that he doesn’t instantly kill Thanos at the end and they can have a proper fight.
How did you like it, it was boring and just fan service. No action until the last half hout

Ben: you’re a weak loser
*Lost his home land, his mother, his father, his pride, his hammer, gets his confidence taken for not being able to protect his people, and MOST IMPORTANTLY had to endure the thought that he could have stopped thanos but didnt*
That should'v made him more motivated to protect who he loves, he could have been a harsh ruler of asgard who cared about his people and walled everyone else out to protect them
Someone who lost touch with his humanity due to his obsession with not screwing up again, It would've been a great conclusion to his arc
But no we needed cheap laughs and Valkarie had to lead asgard which makes no sense what so ever

Promising to find a new home while in that journey Thanos comes in murders a significant portion of his people, his friend and his brother.
Near the end in infinity war after getting the axe striking Thanos...a strike that would kill any normal being, survives tells you "You should have aimed at my head".
Disappears then wipes out half the universe, you survive (then suffers from survivors guilt).
After all of that you find out you have a chance to redeem yourself when you find out where Thanos settled, but Thanos destroyed the stones so you can't bring anyone back. Then in a heat of rage kill him.
Then settle your great people in earth called new Asgard which looks like a tiny fishing village in comparison to the once great Asgard ruled by your father a great king. You would begin to wonder how he would look at you and new Asgard now.
After all of that who would still be courageous after all of that, who wouldn't be depressed.
From what I've seen in the movie it doesn't seem like his "friends" from avengers visited(I could be wrong).Reason why i say that out looked like Hulk only found out that day what was going on. The drinking, isolating himself and getting out of shape for 5 years.
It was funny seeing him fat in the beginning
My problem is that Marvel only kept it as a joke and didn't get deeper more serious into it but that is just my opinion.
Sergio Milho nothing wrong with fat Thor. The drag of using his depression as comic relief is what killed it for me.

Fully agree but for most fans Marvel really wouldn't need to explore the deeper side because we have followed Thor and know what he's been through(except maybe Ben by the looks of things) but I still feel like they explored his character really well and how he has been coping with things.
I mean, when else would you get a drastic twist on a character who’s had this established strong and rigid figure for years. You’d have to take that advantage and make fun of it while it lasts lol and the message of rebuilding yourself from suffering and loss would still be there. The jokes were a bit too much sure but I didn’t really mind it as long as he had more purpose than being just a shallow depthless joke

Completely wrong about Tony Stark's character. The question hasn't been "when is he going to grow up and become a hero?" since Iron Man 2. His character has been about A) his inability to rest and the ineffective ways he has been coping with his fear about the future. B) Coping ineffectively with guilt of collateral damage and not being able to settle down.
Yes. The scene where he tells Pepper he figured it out was amazing acting I thought by RDJ. You saw the gears turning in his head. He wasn't ment to live a domestic life. He tried and he had a daughter and that's great but he's a workaholic. And let's not forget it's a superhero movie. He needed to fulfill the legacy of Ironman.
And also, remember when he flew through a wormhole with a nuke? It’s not that he all of a sudden grew up in Endgame. It’s just that he has always been the one who really liked his fun and then when he started to grow up he still had his fun but he was always the guy to lay on the wire and let his buddy step over it. He did act like a frat boy at a party all the time but when it came to the hard decisions he did do the right thing.
This... Tony's been freaked out since 2012, and he only really settled down AFTER they lost to Thanos... and even then when he had the opportunity to walk away, he couldn't. He picks up Peter's picture and feels that guilt... that responsibility... the weight of the worlds. He probably remembers Peter's paraphrase of "with great power comes great responsibility" ...And that's why he has to do it... Because he's Iron Man. And he does have to face stakes, but he refuses to let his daughter be collateral.

Part of the huge hype and great moments of Infinity War were all these people meeting for the first time and just their interaction betweem themselves was incredibly entertaining. There was basically none of this in Endgame. They just showed up at the end, fought a little and that was it. 0 character interaction and 0 groups of people meeting new groups of people. Honestly I think captain americas ending was very emotional. Bringing back the old song and him getting his dance. I think it’s the perfect ending to my favorite character.
I really like the ending but I did hate that they only did it because Evans turned down the Re-Up. I wish that they would get him to agree to one more movie where they explain how he put the stones back. Like how the hell did he get the reality Stone to return to a liquid form in Thor's girlfriend, how does he return the Soul Stone and did that then return black widow's soul, and how did he get the Tesseract back in the cube. I think it would be an interesting one off, but I know it'll never happen.
@reciprocating social lobotomy Cap went back to return the stones to the original places, the old Cap (the one frozen on ice) still did everything Cap did: fight Iron Man, saved Bucky etc." The only difference is that the Cap that went back stayed. So we are technically seeing an alternate timeline when we see old Cap. But nothing really changed because he didn't change much.
I could be wrong but that's what I got out of it.
@reciprocating social lobotomy changing the past does not change the future.. that's why when Sam suggested to go back in time and just kill baby thanos Bruce explained that's not how it works every timeline that is created is its own reality
In Agent Carter, Peggy pretty much moved on. Also, they spent like 2 movies of Captain America showing how Steve really cared about Bucky and he just left? This is not good arc character of him.

Spiderman Far from Home, and Black Widow were made after Endgame. 16 movies not including Endgame. Which brings it down to 20. The Incredible Hulk isn't technically a MCU movie. So its 19. And he said he didn't watch Captain Marvel, so its 18. And the individual movies, Black Panther and Dr. Strange technically don't have much to impact the plot of Avengers Endgame, other than the characters and the post credit scenes.
He meant that they were able to keep that story line going for 16 movies, not that there were only 16 MCU films. So in that case, he isn't wrong.

I've never disagreed with Ben... till now lol. I saw it different. When they showed Tony Stark staying up all night working on the time travel I saw it as his purpose. He's a workaholic and would never be able to live out a "normal" life in the woods. When he went to Pepper that was a great scene, fantastic acting by RDJ. You could see Tony's inner struggle. He knew how it might end but the world needed Iron Man.
I saw it as he felt guilty for the death of Spiderman so he created the time machine to save Peter.
I agree. Ben mentioned in order to let Tony experience a character development Tony need to have higher stakes (like sacrificing his daughter), but I don't see that as an absolute necessity especially when the director and writer are approaching time traveling that way, where the past can't really change the future. However, Tony Stark still face a higher stake, which is not only sacrificing his life but as well as his role and life as a father. Yeah, Tony Stark is ready to sacrifice himself all day all time just like the new york atomic bomb, but he has much more to lose now.
I get what Ben means and would agree by putting Morgan in stake, it would bring even more tension and bigger decision for Tony to make into the story. But by doing so, the character arc where Tony is at would not let him choose to even help the Avenger. And in contrary to what Ben said, not putting all these character changes of Tony willing to sacrifice his daughter in this movie is because the directors do not want this Avenger movie to become Iron Man's movie that focuses on him.
Thor is quite disappointing in my opinion as well, but I think it makes sense for me that he has experienced a reverse character development or negative development as he lost his faith on himself and doubted himself so much in the five year period. I was looking forward to him fighting bravely and strongly again as well, but I guess the director debuff him to let the fight more balanced (Thor with Storm Breaker should have easily defeated Thanos without stones I guess).

Thanos had that sadist behaviour because this was Thanos of 2014, when he still had a ruthless bloodthirsty conquest mindset (which can be understood in the first guardians film). It makes sense because in infinity war, Thanos was developed immensely as a character (especially after killing gamora) so we already have all that development for Thanos which isn’t required in endgame as much and it would not make sense due to the time travel plot.
Gamora Said in infinity war that the snap was all thanos was wanting to do ever since she met him. I believe the only reason he had this conquest mindset was to find the infinity stones. He of course had a conquest mindset but I don't think it was sadist at all. I still think it was due to his personal mission with the infinity stones.

@@TheHomelander1234 You must have not watched the film because he killed Thanos
@@TheHomelander1234 He helped retrieve Mjolnir and the reality stone which they needed greatly to defeat Thanos along with actually fighting him. If it wasn't for all the original Avenger's they couldn't have done it. That's kinda the point. Everyone played a role they had to and Thor is no less than anyone
@@TheHomelander1234 lol you know who complains about not being a little kid? Yea...... little kids
@@TheHomelander1234 Geez you must be fun at parties. Asshole. Don’t type in a RUclips comment section if you don’t expect replies. Just being mean. You’re the one whining here. Tryna sound all big and mighty and mature. Foh
I don't think endgame gave justice to Thor...he is almost a loser in the movie...
Thor: Suffering PTSD because he feels like he made the mistake that allowed Thanos to succeed. He revives his courage when he gets a new opportunity to fight Thanos.
Iron Man: He does have an arc, not quite the expected one. He does feel on edge about doing it and Pepper finally tells him its the right thing. He sacrifices himself for victory (you could say knowingly), something Cpt. America said he would never do in the first Avengers movie.
The final battle is of course fan service, but it made complete sense for the movie.
Ptsd stop pulling from your ass
Iron Man had that arc 7 years ago when he took a nuke through the wormhole and Thor was made into a joke for comedic relief when they could have done so much more with him
Timmy P He lost his dad, then his home world, then Loki, then half the universe. How else could he have reacted to that?
Actually, I'd say Thor absolutely redeemed himself in Ragnarok and Infinity War. I just hate how all of that development was thrown away for some joke. It's like what Joss Whedon did to Cap in Age of Ultron. The character was not correctly written at all.
@Matthew Mcgee They're idiots ignore them.
Sorry Ben, but my feelings don't care about your facts. 😂😂
Glenn Twiddle touché
Sorry but facts dont care about your feelings !
Lmao. Yes. You captured it perfectly. Oh no. Does that mean we're Sjws?
AFTERBURNER Joslyn these aren’t facts, they’re arguments about a FICTION MOVIE
Hahahaha
I loved the movie, but, Infinity War was better.
Agreed
Thats what i thought but all of my friends think i'm an idiot. They always say the newest movie is the best one and its annoying.
Well, I think everyone knew going in what was going to happen. Comic book characters don't stay dead.
Same
As Shapiro was saying, they pussed out of keeping the stakes high. When Iron Man snapped his fingers and died, it wasn't a gun to the head moment so it wasn't a necessary sacrifice. He could have blasted the fuck out of there with the stones and let the other 100 avengers finish off the bad guys.
Additionally I thought Thanos already set the precedent that the only way to EARN the soul stone was to kill someone you loved the most which was well established in the previous movie. It's not kill yourself so your work buddy will get the stone. And Nebula revealed that she knew this before Black Widow and Hawkeye weren't sent to retrieve it, so they should have known that they needed to do the appropriate sacrifice to earn the soul stone.
He really doesn’t understand or get anything about the MCU does he? He just tries to keep seeming like he knows what he’s talking about. It feels like he’s trying to be controversial and that’s it.
You say a lot of nonsense instead of actually trying to prove him wrong. Your profile picture says a lot
Satan Claus I wasn’t talking any “nonsense” and I made my profile pic myself cuz I thought it would look funny. Calm down.
“ I just saw Avengers Endgame and I didn’t hate it”
Me: Does this man enjoy life?
He didn't say he hated it.
DS4Calvin how’s that a wooooosh?
I wasn't thrilled at all. I actually think black panther was better. Infinity War was alot better than this.. It was ok
@@aeerjordan4994 black panther?! 😂😂
c320 Jordan lmao infinity war was better but black panther is an average marvel movie bro
I feel like Ben is missing the point with the 3 Main Avengers.
SMH!
Dragon Scale while i agree its four ffs. Hulk has been sidelined af by everybody.
Ben doesn't understand anything non politics lol
@@tarneakamalone500 that's what I'm saying, hulk was there since the very beginning
@@tarneakamalone500 I mean,on a sidenote,I liked him, because in the three last movies,he has been suffering with Hulk one way,or the other, and now he had found peace.
I just think he should've had a movie before Endgame to show his transformation to what we saw on it,but BOY,GOTTA SAVE SOME SPACE FOR CAPTAIN "ASK FOR MY FEMINIST AGENDA"
@@residentsleeper1853 The three main Avengers are the ones with trilogies. That's why they're the big three for Marvel.
You left out the cringiest and most forced part where all the female avengers are gathered up for the group pic
y, that was cringy af
Not even worth mentioning.
I didn’t even mind that tbh I thought the shot was pretty cool
Protecting lil Peter Parker🤣
It was the A Force cameo. I thought it was bad ass
