Folks, the reviewer isn't a "douche." He's just an amateur, which is something he'd consider to be a worse insult. There's a ton of really great technology in the SHO, which he acknowledges. What makes him an amateur is that he WANTS the car to be a Bimmer, a Vette, a Mercedes, and he can't get past what he wants from the car compared to being an honest reviewer of the car. That comes out in his review, ergo, amateur. A professional can review the car for exactly what it is. He's reviewing it for what he wishes it was. Taken in context, the SHO is a fantastic car loaded with technology, power, and good looks. It's the American sedan for the guy who wants loads of power under the hood, a sharp looking car, and luxury features. There's also a touch of exclusiveness because there aren't that many SHO's around. Great car, poor review. That's why he's a "contributing" editor.
This is what happens when you put somebody who drives a corolla and takes it from behind into a Taurus SHO. As a proud owner, I can the SHO is one my favorite cars that I've owned. You have the luxury, power, and room. The luxury is not only on the interior, but exterior as well. The amount of looks you get because of how the SHO stands out from other vehicles is awesome and the interior looks just as nice. I have some modifications done to it, giving me just shy of 450hp, but I still run SS camaro's and 5.0 mustangs all day. As far as room goes, when I pick up one of the side chicks, the backseat essentially is a mattress, the only problem is that it isn't a tempur-pedic. The guy who reviewed this video is probably giving a $5 handy to put a couple gallons of fuel in his vegan-mobile.
Not a SHO owner, but based off of this guy's review, I'd buy one. Simply because he gives so many indications that he's NOT a very good tester of autos, with his lack of descriptive speech and disgusting "me me me" attitude towards a car's performance.
It's an SHO not a Shelby,or AMG, M5, DB7 etc. etc. this is an alternative to those beasties for a lesser price. I'm at the age to look into at sedan that also gets me turned on when I punch the go pedal. This guy is so condensing it borders on snobbery.
I bought my 2015 with 350 miles on it for 30k loaded to the gills. I can put a tune on it and a better CAC and have it putting out 500HP at the crank for under $2k. No other car can match the features or the performance for the price.
First off this car is American and it represents the American car culture perfectly. It's big, heavy and fast. It looks different than the European sedans these editors yap about. The problem is there's a lot of great design in our cars as well, but if we're not coping the Germans or the Asians then we are lacking. Why? It's more of a label than anything. There's just as many if not more in repair shops as US cars, will you see a ton of these on the streets of Beverly Hills? Nope but there's a lot in the parking lots of hard working Americans who take pride in our country and it's products. I would rather pay 40,000 for this car than she'll out xx,xxx for any comparable Euro or Asian sedan. This editor is an idiot, and should move to Germany, heck if I was German I'd want one of these just to be different, besides these look sweet!
yessir. I have a '10 and I love it. I get compliments on it all the time. When people realize its a SHO they know it has the power to smoke most of the cars on the streets right off the showroom floor. God bless America
it represents american culture perfectly? fucking lel, it has a twin turbo v6 for fucks sakes. and it's sleek as hell. it's a victim of fords design language, which, if i'm honest, isn't a bad thing, but theres literally no personality in the styling of the thing. all it has going for it is the history. if you want representation of american culture, look to the chrysler 300 or dodge charger. good car though, and the guy hit the nail on the head
phatheaded Hey just cause I'm 11 doesn't mean I can't fall in love with the Taurus. I know someone with the car and it is in black and it is all out beautiful. So, I'm saying if you have the car consider yourself lucky. I have a Chevy Cruze LTS and I really want the Taurus.
I leased ‘13 SHO with the performance Pkg a few months back; great ride. Pick up is awesome; if I floor it from the line then I either have to push myself against the seat or hold tight to the steering wheel. The all wheel drive just vaults the car off with virtually no wheel spin giving the 2 turbos time to kick in. Then you’re pretty much past 60 mph in a few seconds. Really quick for a car of this size and weight. I might buy it at the end of my lease
Ford Taurus is way more reliable than any Mercedes or BMW.. only time will tell if it will rival the Toyota Camry. It's the best investment for an American family cruiser. plenty of amenities and reliability. I hope they bring it back into production.
I own a 2013 SHO. This review was more opinion based rather than actually reviewing the car and all the features. This car is not to be compared with AMG and M5 etc. However once tuned will give them a real push if not faster
This review was horrible. He has no clue what he is talking about. Nothing about the interior, nothing about the heated and cooled seats, heated rear seats, nothing about the auto-high beams, auto wipers, the gear ratios on the PP, and how this car with little modifications can run 12s in a quarter mile. This car has more features than every car in and above its segment, and has a price point that beats these cars in the segment. He doesn't even mention anything about the all wheel drive dynamic torque vectoring-- did he even know he was driving an all wheel drive car? Its a TORE-US not something that sounds like the Toyota "Yaris". Shame on you Sam.
This review didn’t go on about heated seats because the point of this review wasn’t about heated seats, it was about performance. That’s why they brought it out to a track. If you want to know more about it’s heated seats watch a normal Taurus review you nimrod.
I used to drive an '89 SHO. I see a lot of SHO fan-boys are mad at Mr. Smith. You know what? TPHTTHHTHTHT. Chill out. Pour the haterade on the ground and get back to enjoying your two-ton outback revamps of the Volvo S60R. The Volvo S60R was a really swell car, and being able to make one that has an extra half ton of mass and still make the speed like it does is kind of impressive. In other words, DO NOT BE SO DAMN INSECURE. There.
I bought a 2013 Ford Taurus SHO in Tuxedo Black with 20" SHO wheels 🛞. It really makes me smile going up steep hills.... ME: here comes a steep hill... TAURUS SHO: Hold my beer...
I really like the new Taurus SHO except for two things... For one, I wish the rear suspension was about 1.0-1.5" lower reducing the gap, and secondly, I can't believe this freaking thing weighs 500 pounds more than my brothers monster of a car 2001 Lincoln Continental which has a 32 valve DOHC V8 in it. The Continental is 208.5" long and weighs 3,848 pounds. Other than those two things, I love everything else.
This is indeed a good review, and while the SHO is not sport sedan, but merely a V6 with V8 power (due to the twin turbos) , the whole point of this car, I think, is to act as the basis of the Lincoln MKS, that is designed to "re-awaken" that brand image. As a Taurus, most people will buy the non-turbo. But the SHO package, at the high $42k-$48k price is more appropriate under the Lincoln pricing structure. So the point is to act as a basis for the Lincoln, not be a sport sedan in itself.
I came here for a review and got an opinion. Wanted specs, times and is it rear wheel drive biased or front wheel drive biased. What do you mean there is only so much you can do because its a Taurus? They can change ride height, gearing, turning speed and many other things. Thumbs down.
Thoughts......Looking at the SHO as my next car....wondering what exactly the reviewer and his friends DO drive...I'm thinking....uh....Prius...IJS. I had an older SHO, with the Yamaha engine, it was an incredible, very fast, light, comfortable, priced right, reliable...WIN. Have a BMW 7 now, love BMW's, had a bunch but seriously thinking about going back to a SHO should tell you something...might have something to do with the F150 Raptor in my garage....Ford is doing a lot of things RIGHT.
Watching this review I didn't even finish it cause it's just too biased. I'm not a Taurus SHO fan or anything cause I prefer the Chevy SS and Charger but find the Taurus as a good alternative. Went here to watch a good review not a whining competition. You have to give credit to the Taurus SHO for what it is. Disappointed cause I'm subscribed to both the mag and the RUclips channel.
The original SHO was light, nimble, front wheel drive, had a powerful v-6 engine, and wasn't a very big car. It also had a manual transmission option. The new SHO weighs at least 4500 lbs and has very heavy all wheel drive components. Basically my beef with the new Taurus SHO is that it is way too big and heavy. I think that a Ford Fusion SHO would be a much more appropriate successor to the original Taurus SHO.
At the 1:00 mark, it looks like the rim is actually in contact with the ground. What's going on there? Is that normal? Is it an optical illusion? Just curious, thanks!
the front suspension is basically a macpherson strut with "rear facing lower control arm" and isolated subframe . Is this just a fancy version of a basic economy car front suspension or is it as good as a double wishbone or a multilink strut front suspension found in proper sports/muscle sedans ?????
Nice car, the snout is kinda kooky-lookin, though. Would love to drive one, but you Aussies drive on the wrong side of the road down under and getting one here into the states and driving it would be a royal PITA. Having said that, when I was in Melbourne, I did notice that you guys really like hot rods and no doubt this is a kick ass ride. I really like the "Ranchero" version with the pickup bed.....looks cool.
Granted the original Taurus was at the time Ford's mid-size family sedan, and that was during a time when an Accord weighted around 2700 pounds. But yeah, if ford really had balls they would give the Fusion the rumored 2.3 four banger for the new RS, a manual trans, and four-wheel drive. The four wheel drive will never happen, despite that Rally is Ford's most prominent racing endeavor.
"a lot of people would be perfectly satisfied with this car"? Man it must be nice to have money and afford the kind of car he would be satisfied with. People today are so fucking spoiled when it comes to cars, thinking back to what was on offer back in the early 80's.
Dream car: Ford Taurus SHO GT, with a mustang 5.0L 420 HP engine under the hood. Now have Roush take it and supercharge it... A Ford Taurus SHO GT Roush Stage 3... holy hell that would be sick.
Car & Drive Magazine has gone down too. Their test are so inaccurate. In 2016 they test a Chevy Colorado that they claimed ran a high 15 quarter. One yer later they test a 17 with very few new year changes and it runs the-mid 14’s. This is not the only screw up. Before my subscription ran out I had plenty of bird cage paper.
LOL at the guy who said this is the same thing as the Audi A7 or BMW 7 series. FIrst of all the A7 isn't even in the same class as the & series Bimmer, It's the A8, and secondly, you can't begin to compare this car to either of those in price or performance. The SHO is more closely aimed at the BMW 335i Sedan or Audi A4/S4
Only so much you can do? This guy..... I beg to differ. When the Venom GT has 48 less valves, 8 less pistons and cylinders than the Bugatti Veyron, yet still tops it.
Wow, there's a lot of crybaby ford fans, the guy didn't rag on it. He just was trying to paint a picture of what it is and isn't. And just because he said he couldn't see himself buying it doesn't mean he looks down on it, maybe it doesn't suit what he wants/needs in a car. I wouldn't buy it but I don't have kids so a coupe would be what I would go for for example
Horrible review. Taurus SHO is an outstanding car for the money and in a straight line is outright fierce and it handles very well....you just have to get used to the weight of the car in corners. This dude is bias and it really shows.
The trouble with Taurus SHO is its still basically a FWD car and just gets the torque to rear wheels when it detects the slip just like Audi(although the sick DSG of Audi just blows Taurus regular AT away) but what happens when this happens is it under steers and despite giving good grip it takes away the fun, what Ford needs to do is make the Taurus a global car with the Ford Falcon of Australia too in mind and make it a RWD car with torque going to Front wheels when it detects over steer and that will make Taurus SHO show German luxury cars something C&D always compares Fords,Chevys Dodges etc with Germans and thats really good cuz competition improves the breed, and I am waiting for real show from 2015 Taurus, word is that its going to be RWD
Nothing wrong with the Taurus' AWD system. I do believe Ford is using dual clutch Powershift on almost all automatic applications, although I'm unsure if Taurus uses it. Couldn't fault the hire car I had as a Taurus when I was visiting the states last year. It was an AWD Limited.
Samuel Tripp There is nothing wrong with Taurus AWD but its no way near as advanced as the Quattro system of Audi or even the AWD system of Mitsubishi and Subaru, so it is in no way faster off the line than a similarly speced FWD car, the Audis Quattro etc leaps the car off the line with almost 200% more traction than what Taurus have,eg: Audi s5 with 3.0 turbo and just 337 bhp gets to 60 in 4.9s with Quattro, the Taurus with 3.5 ecoboost and 365 hp gets to 60 in 5.8s thats damn slow, I have seen it checked by edmunds.com with V Box, Taurus with such a monstrous engine is slow cuz its AWD makes it heavy and dosent make it fast but just safe
You are correct, but it's 5.2 secs to 60 with the optional performance pack, not 5.8 anything under 6 seconds is internationally known as a 'performance car' and I would describe my 2.0 Ecoboost Mondeo which hits 60 in about 7.5 as fast. By no means is a 5.2 sec car 'slow'. As for the S5, that is even quicker yes. But you also have to bear in mind that the Taurus is larger than a BMW 7 series (maybe not in terms of rear legroom, but in external dimensions). The S5 is feather light compared to a Taurus and you can probably blame the standard auto for a slower response time than twin clutch. 5.2 secs to 4.9 secs, that's only 0.3 secs slower for a much heavier car with an older style auto.
Samuel Tripp see 1st thing is Fords power shift is actually sucking the power of the engine and has huge transmission loss, I am happy 2 see 1 in UK joining an America n car discussion as I am an auto journal ist as well, Have you driven fiesta with ecoboost and power shift box, truly it destroy s the fiesta,It destroyed the fun 2 drive chara of fiesta due to ultra poor downshifts and it's light years behind vw 1.2 tsi dsg as well In the Taurus the car which itself is a 90s Volvo platform is 2 heavy, true add to it Ford's slow auto box and 0-100 came in 5.8s in the SHO model with VBOX testing A similarly priced vw passat cc with 3.6 tfsi and dsg and awd did 0-100 in 5.6s, it had much better interior, more quality, more space, more comfortable adaptive suspension and it was a lot faster than Taurus SHO on the road as well, that's pity on Ford's,Fords American division is just better off doing trucks, flex is a great car but 2 expensive and heavy,so Ford needs to lighten their cars and get rid of power shift boxes and should do their own dual clutch or make a better sequential shifter or a fast regular auto like in Mazda or Honda s,as of now Ford's cars are best if they are British origin, with manual box
jandj Godwin If a guy walks onto a ford lot and wants a a complete animal that will wreck the streets and make any sti or evo cry. Buy a S 550 or S 197 mustang gt or higher. If you got a family and want power, and need four doors buy a taurus.
as a modern Taurus SHO owner this guy has no clue what he's talking about... i.e. The 3.5 ecoboost actually came in the lincoln MKS before the taurus the truck was actually the last to receive the engine... original testing was done on the five hundred platform
That had to be one of the strangest reviews I have read and I've read 1000's. what's next? You going to bring the Malibu RS to the track and say you can't see your friends or anyone you know buying it because its no M car or AMG? we don't need you for this review. I don't know anyone that thinks a SHO is up there with a AMG!
So Australia is going to car that drives like a shopping cart as well as being under powered to the ford cars we produce. At least our engineers over here can make it drive and proform alot better..
Car and Driver is a better car magazine than Motor Trend. They already started to get rid of that european feel, european look etc. kind of idiotic remarks. Scaba Scere in his reveiew of ATS didn't even compare the nice Caddy with european cars. Now, it is time to define "American feel" and put it above the europeans, and I think Car and Driver is a better bet than Motor Trend to do this.
Idk wtf that dude is talking. That Taurus is fun as hell to drive. A lot of bang for the buck. I will take that over the Audi a8 and BMW 7series. Iu get the same thing a lot cheaper plus the car takes reg gas also. Can't beat that shit

This comment didn’t age well
I felt as if I was being ushered being brainwashed to dislike the Taurus SHO but i still want one
@@PetrolHead1 except that it did.
I'll tell you, my 16 sho i have a cai, 3 bar, thermostat, livernois 93 octane tune, muffler deletes... thing is a monster.
Fixing to do the same with my 15.
How much is all that
This reminds me of a Top Gear review: "There's nothing really wrong with it... it's just not a car I'd ever see myself driving"
"This is brilliant!!! But I like this..."

Its a Ford/ Lincoln 4 door mustang, or Technically Thunderbird/Continental if you trace its lineage.
I think he really loves himself . Lol ! Little man it's not a "Moose" it's a " BULL" AS IN TAURUS THE BULL

sure is different than my 98 Tarus. that one is light weight, still runs great, and handles awesome.
Very different; it's actually quick.

My 2015 is stock and extremely fast. Don't challenge it or you'll be embarrassed and wanting one for yourself.......
I learned nothing about this car in this review
my grandmothers tarus sho she bought new only made it to 30k miles . . . i still feel bad about that but man did i have some really good times
What is this nerd talking About? He wouldn't buy, it case he's a manchild, who needs to go home and play his video games! That's a man's car!!!
Yay I'm a man 😂
yes. vented pistons, less likely to boil the brake fluid and not a mistake.
I really like the new Taurus SHO except for two things... He acts like somebody's mother😂😂😂😂

2013 Sho best all around family car

The pistons that push the brake pads to the brake disc.
So spend a lot on this trim because its the best but then you need to drop a whole lot more revamping the suspension.
"a lot of people would be perfectly satisfied with this car"? Man it must be nice to have money and afford the kind of car he would be satisfied with. People today are so fucking spoiled when it comes to cars, thinking back to what was on offer back in the early 80's.
It actually is pronounced "Show". Have you ever seen an official Ford commercial about the SHO?
This Taurus doesn't deserve the SHO name. It's totally strayed away from what the original Taurus SHO and even the 2nd gen SHOs were.
dude sam smith, you do car reviews for a magazine. I doubt you'd be buying a $40K vehicle...
1:02 "Vented pistons..."
Ha ha...
as of 2010, Ford officially pronounces it as Sho.
Dream car: Ford Taurus SHO GT, with a mustang 5.0L 420 HP engine under the hood. Now have Roush take it and supercharge it... A Ford Taurus SHO GT Roush Stage 3... holy hell that would be sick.
did he say vented pistons?!
The SHO is Super High Output. I think lol
FORD, for when you just need a car built like a shopping cart!
Power to weight ratios. Look them up.
Only so much you can do? This guy..... I beg to differ. When the Venom GT has 48 less valves, 8 less pistons and cylinders than the Bugatti Veyron, yet still tops it.
Sign me up!! Lets make that happen, at all cost!!
Do you think you would be able to get your hands on a Taurus SHO or Lincoln MKS with Hennessey's "Max Boost 415" packaged on it? (stands for 415 bhp!)
Maybe if you drove a tuned SHO with exhaust, down pipe, and intake you would know better!
He said "it's used in trucks", not that it came from the trucks.
Horrible review. Taurus SHO is an outstanding car for the money and in a straight line is outright fierce and it handles very well....you just have to get used to the weight of the car in corners. This dude is bias and it really shows.
Chevy SS > Taurus SHO
@taurussho86 maybe your a bit biased? Based in the username and all
Car and Driver just bumped you out of your lane, Mr. Lane
electric power steering....smh. no thank you ill take my 2014 SS in the fall
Car and Driver has not changed for the better. Same shallow narrative since I was a kid reading the magazines.
Never heard anybody call it a Ford "Show" before. Always S-H-O.
I can't remember ever seeing Car and Driver say anything nice about Ford.. Sad thing for a magazine that is supposed to be unbiased..
Great job with the review!
thanks for telling us very little about the car. Its soft, some people might like it. Great review!
why can't someone make a sports sedan with a naturally aspirated v8, that's under 3800 pounds and can stand up to track use?
Worthless review
Yeah he sure is what A bad reviewer hope he isnt doing more bad reviews.
Way better than the Nissan Maxima and Dodge Charger.
Far better.
The trouble with Taurus SHO is its still basically a FWD car and just gets the torque to rear wheels when it detects the slip just like Audi(although the sick DSG of Audi just blows Taurus regular AT away) but what happens when this happens is it under steers and despite giving good grip it takes away the fun, what Ford needs to do is make the Taurus a global car with the Ford Falcon of Australia too in mind and make it a RWD car with torque going to Front wheels when it detects over steer and that will make Taurus SHO show German luxury cars something
C&D always compares Fords,Chevys Dodges etc with Germans and thats really good cuz competition improves the breed, and I am waiting for real show from 2015 Taurus, word is that its going to be RWD
You are correct, but it's 5.2 secs to 60 with the optional performance pack, not 5.8
anything under 6 seconds is internationally known as a 'performance car' and I would describe my 2.0 Ecoboost Mondeo which hits 60 in about 7.5 as fast.
Samuel Tripp see 1st thing is Fords power shift is actually sucking the power of the engine and has huge transmission loss,
I am happy 2 see 1 in UK joining an America n car discussion as I am an auto journal ist as well,
Have you driven fiesta with ecoboost and power shift box, truly it destroy s the fiesta,It destroyed the fun 2 drive chara of fiesta due to ultra poor downshifts and it's light years behind vw 1.2 tsi dsg as well
In the Taurus the car which itself is a 90s Volvo platform is 2 heavy, true add to it Ford's slow auto box and 0-100 came in 5.8s in the SHO model with VBOX testing
A similarly priced vw passat cc with 3.6 tfsi and dsg and awd did 0-100 in 5.6s, it had much better interior, more quality, more space, more comfortable adaptive suspension and it was a lot faster than Taurus SHO on the road as well, that's pity on Ford's,Fords American division is just better off doing trucks, flex is a great car but 2 expensive and heavy,so Ford needs to lighten their cars and get rid of power shift boxes and should do their own dual clutch or make a better sequential shifter or a fast regular auto like in Mazda or Honda s,as of now Ford's cars are best if they are British origin, with manual box
jandj Godwin If a guy walks onto a ford lot and wants a a complete animal that will wreck the streets and make any sti or evo cry. Buy a S 550 or S 197 mustang gt or higher. If you got a family and want power, and need four doors buy a taurus.
as a modern Taurus SHO owner this guy has no clue what he's talking about... i.e. The 3.5 ecoboost actually came in the lincoln MKS before the taurus the truck was actually the last to receive the engine... original testing was done on the five hundred platform
they do, its called the ford falcon and the holden vxr8 in australia. The US will soon get the caprice SS with lt or the ls motor in 2 years
wow, thats actually a nice car.
dont fkin care if u cant seel ur self or anyone u know buying it i will buy one soon
Actually that's what Ford wants to call it now for some reason.
Go ahead, call it a TARus SHOW one more time, I dare yuh!
He compared it to an amg the sho is about 15k cheaper and has a v8 not awd I think the sho should have a 5.0 coyote
Car and Driver has to compare everything to a BMW.
So Australia is going to car that drives like a shopping cart as well as being under powered to the ford cars we produce. At least our engineers over here can make it drive and proform alot better..
Throw in a Tune and taurus sho would be almost or just as fast as the mustang GT
It’s faster
This car is a no-go Fo' Sho
i have a 2013 sho it will eat 300 c chagers challengers for lunch
stop crying noobs, ford cant compete with chevy
CAR and DRIVER, Ford hater's and Bankruptcy worshipers.....
Car and Driver is a better car magazine than Motor Trend. They already started to get rid of that european feel, european look etc. kind of idiotic remarks. Scaba Scere in his reveiew of ATS didn't even compare the nice Caddy with european cars. Now, it is time to define "American feel" and put it above the europeans, and I think Car and Driver is a better bet than Motor Trend to do this.
if u can wave your arms around while on the track your not driving your blathering
Idk wtf that dude is talking. That Taurus is fun as hell to drive. A lot of bang for the buck. I will take that over the Audi a8 and BMW 7series. Iu get the same thing a lot cheaper plus the car takes reg gas also. Can't beat that shit
never heard anyone pronouce Taurus the way he does
40+ grand, i rather buy a E46 M3 with money left for tuning
Sorry guys, but the Aussies do it better. Way better. Search FPV GT 335. Nuff said.
