    Hey Kris, from what Bjorn noted with the e Tron, you have to push the charger handle in towards the vehicle during the handshake process with Ionity, then it works every time.

      Yes I tried this off camera. I actually filmed the whole 12min prossess, but thought it might have been too long and boring to watch.

      Correct on Audi e-tron is needed to hold the freaking cable to the vehicle under handshake process. Same shit I need to do with Renault Zoe Z.E 50 on Ionity too.

    You can start the IONITY charger from your MyAudi app. You just need to start the service. In the app you can “frikoble Ladestasjoner” there. You need the Audi charging Service subscription started/registered.

    Nice video! 👍 Sad to see you have such problems charging at Ionity. I’ve had my e-tron for 1,5 years and charged on many of the stations, also this one, never had problems like this. However, I got the e-tron Charging Service RFID card when the car was delivered. What’s up with that? (The card works at Grønn Kontakt, eOn BKK and others, with discounts). I keep it in my glove box, connect the charger to the car, present the RFID card and boom! ⚡️
    To be honest, it has failed maybe 3 out of 30 times, but then I just connect again, show the RFID and it works. Takes only 1 minute.. (The handshake is kinda slow even with the card.)
    One trick is to hold the connector tight and lift it up slightly / press it against the charge port so there’s no space on the upper part where the connector meets the port. If you see what I mean. 🙂 The connector and cable is kind of heavy.. (The “Porsche Design” chargers like in Elverum is better, I think. Mounted higher. And you can actually extend it by pulling it downwards even if the cable seems a little short at first.) You don’t have to stand there holding the cable like an idiot, just for 10 seconds while it initiates the charging and you feel that the cable starts to vibrate. Sometimes you hear a little click. When the car lights up green, you can go have a hot dog. 🌭
    Tip number two is that you should insert the plug before you initiate the charging. This goes kind of without saying when using a RFID. I think the problem using the app can occur if you are to slow inserting the plug, the session will time out. On the other hand, if you insert it too early it seems like the car kind of times out. And when having to fiddle with payments and everything it _will_ often fail in this process. You could try starting the session with the MyAudi app instead of the Ionity app. Then you don’t have to log in and enter card details every time. You can choose which charger to use manually or using QR code. Just insert the plug first. 🙂
    How did the return trip go? Are you still there? How about trying the mountain route for some scenic shots? 🙏 And there’s also this new, worlds longest/deepest underwater tunnel?

      Thanks for a long and informative comment :)
      Yeah, I didn't get the RFID card with the car. I called the sales person a week later to request one, but they were all out he said. Very unfortunate for people spending this much money on a car, because as many have commented. These problems would be emliminated with the card. I'll try the MyAudiApp on the return leg which is tomorrow.

    Compared to what consumption I have seen others have on such a large car I think 230Wh/km is a good result taken into account motorway and low temperatures. The first weeks will always contains some struggle with charging DC charging, RFID will fix most of it. I am sure that in 6 months you will be the guy helping the new EV-noobs trying to charge :)

    1st rule when problems at Ionity - besides all the tips already given how to get a 100% handshake - call Ionity Serviceline. Had only one problem out of many Ionity charges and it was resolved remotely. Sorry to say but I am confident this “drama” was avoidable

    • @KrisRifa
      @KrisRifa  4 года назад

      Sure, it might have been avoided. But if you saw the whole video I also had problems with the EON charger, so it might as well have been the car and not the chargers. Either way, I'm a "car vlogger" who may have more knowlage than the average E-Tron driver, so for "normal" people this may be very stressful.

  • @thomasruenes1853

    How is this possible? Ionity is normally super easy to use with the e-tron. Why don't you use the Audi card or the My Audi app to start charging..?? (Except from that, nice video)

  • @borama7845
    @borama7845 4 года назад

    Kris, just for your personal health, please stop using the Ionity app. You had so much trouble already in other videos, and I agree this is the worst app I have ever installed (temporarily) on my smartphone. Please check for an alternative and ask your Audi dealer for help. Stay positive and keep up the good work.

      You use them only when you need to. And that is the idea of these HPC: only when needed, not because it is convenient or cheaper. For those who own an e-tron the price is only 0,31€/kWh.

      @Norbert Mayer Must be the app. It’s actually much easier than filling gas:
      1) Connect the plug
      2) Present the RFID
      3) Eat hot dog 🙂
      You don’t have to stand there, freezing, getting your hands dirty.. With a Tesla and Porsche, Audi and others going forward, you don’t even have to use RFID. (Tesla using their proprietary solution, the others following ISO standards: ruclips.net/video/wmWpdjSGSbM/видео.html )
