I just starting using gunlance and man... the beauty of your run is not the damage dealing, its the POSITIONING. omg, your evade footwork is nothing short of amazing!

Yes, although it is unfortunate, that is the point of maining one weapon. Being able to adapt your playstyle even if it means not using some of the features.
Also, keep in mind that this solo playstyle may be the best for Fatalis (and Alatreon), but not for the other. Some are better with long charged playstyle, some other with normal fullburst. Really depends on each monster & their movesets.
The ''meta'' playstyles are not mandatory. They're just there to get the job done the fastest and safest possible way, but they don't equal true skill to me. But this doesn't mean that i'm saying everyone going for such builds is bad. Nevertheless people who don't use meta builds, ''just'' decent ones, and still manage to kill the same bosses, no matter the time, those are the real skilled players to me. I main wide Gunlance and use everything in it's arsenal in a fight, the only thing i don't use all the time is burst. For me, being a skillful hunter means to upgrade everything you have, but when times occur where you have to manage the situation without the most optimal gear, you will get the job done because you studied the monster and you know your hunting skills. Somehow like the huntsman from the first fleet, who's still using his old rathian gear but doesn't hesitate when it comes to fight Nergigante or Teostra. Moreover, with the Gunlance you can use so many viable sets that support every playstyle. The set variety is unmatched compared to other weapons.
Fullburst requires the use of Wyrmstake Blast to optimize damage. The problem is, it is very hard to constantly hit the Wyrmblast with monsters that is big and moves a lot like Fatalis. Unless, if you can keep Fatalis immobile like the 4-players gunlance run by the Japanese speedrunners.
