    Despite the fact that he wasn't prepared mentally to perform the prelude he nailed it. The best version I've ever heard.

    Gotta agree with sixstring . Arrogants and confidence go hand in hand in this setting. Segovia is known for protecting the art. Hes simply watching out for his baby.

    he is very very smart at the fingering
    that make his prelude sounds so freaking colorful
    probably the best rendition on youtube

    Wow! Not only are you an excellent player, you must have nerves of steel to play that very difficult music to The Maestro Segovia in front of an audience. A mortal would have been a nervous wreck.

    Michael is a great player.Such ravishing phrasing and tone. His genius and musicality moves me just as much if not more than Segovias and thats saying something! he, just like segovia, conveys something magical and extra special when he plays which is truly rare. I feel honoured to have watched and heard him. Bravo to yet another youtube guitar genius. But hey, there can never be too many for me.

    Its Alexander Tansman's Preludio from Cavatina. The first one is Scherzino form the same Cavatina. This suites called Cavatina won the first prize in International Cpompetition for guitar in Shiena in 1951, and was dedicated to Andres Segovia.

    Segovia was 93 years old here. If and when you are 93 years old you will probably find that when you don't like something you may be quite abrupt in letting others know.
    I do agree, he was playing very well.

    People going to Segovia's master classes expect his feedback. It isn't like Segovia walked into someone's concert and criticized him. They are looking for critical feedback that will help them hone their skill. If all Segovia did was sit back and applaud, they wouldn't have anything for their effort but an autograph. Segovia is not being arrogant or rude. Rude is when you play for your end-of-term juries & the professors are chatting and checking their email on their phones.

  • @zackcoffmanguitar

    What's funny about it is that all the players in the master class have far cleaner than Segovia better tone and tech. Something to think about

    so it was only in the last performance that segovia lost his rag. If i ever made it to 90 the last thing i would want to do would be listening to students playing a piece of music that i thought i could play better specially if i was not feeling particularly well and who knows whatever else was going on in his private life etc

    If one serious Classical or Flamenco guitarist in a thousand thinks Manitas de Plata rates higher than Segovia, he or she must be mad. He's not even rated by flamenco players.
    He was fun, flashy, and entertaining.
    And Segovia can be excused a lot, after what he did for the guitar.
    Keep listening!

    maybe he does play in clubs. He has to play covers because the paying public find classical music boring. Its not for everyone and he has to put food on the table. No matter how good you are the world does not owe you a living, look at Eva cassisdy! Your comment sounds very mean. maybe your having a joke. One stroke of luck could change his life, look at Susan Boyle. People do not always get their fair dues, MC is one of them. If he was this good at football he d be doing Ok. Be nicer dude!

  • @arfurlife
    @arfurlife 12 лет назад +5

    Who did Segovia have masterclasses from? No one. he used his own judgement and so should MC. J Williams uses very different fingerings to Segovia and its stupid to say there s one way only to finger classical guitar pieces. The whole mystery of the instrument lies in the beguiling choices to be made. I feel sorry for those who want us all to be Segovia clones. he was a great, but its time to move on. Segovia like other prima donnas is known for the odd cruel moment. He was a man, not a saint.

Not to mention Celedonio was 10 times the classical guitarist he was. After all your nonsense do not tag or confront me online ever again. The things you said to me esp name calling you'd never say to me in person good day sir

    San Diego to USC is hardly thousands of miles. You analogizing what you would do in Segovia's place is absurd. I am sure you are the pioneer of classical guitar and hold master classes yourself that Chapdelaine attends. Of course Chapdelaine went on to be a great guitarist. Good thing he had the foundation to build on. Wonder where he got that.

    I made no playing. I have not heard you play, I wouldn't do that, and if you were awful I would commend you for your efforts.. What I called into question was your contribution to music and the guitar as directly compared to Segovia. If you think there is a comparison then I don't know what to tell you. Chapdelain had a foundation, where do you think he got it. In the 60s you were either directly or indirectly taught by Segovia. That is just a fact. Your use of the word tantrum is excessive.

  • @veladon7

    Different ears different generations. The sentiment of a guitar feels different to different teachers. Chapdelaine is a great player but the feel of the sound and technique just was not up to Segovia's standard. Francisco Tárrega is a great composer and player but I am willing to bet that Chapdelaine could not replicate him he just has different mechanics. He is a very good player but he has not impacted the way we play guitar today.

    • @nelsonx5326
      @nelsonx5326 6 лет назад +1

      I think in these master classes technique is not discussed. I might be on a different topic here, the topic I am on is subtleties in taste. Technique must be assumed before reaching Segovia.
      Music is more abstract then pictorial art. The subtleties of taste are harder to discern in music. We can hear easily if a piece we know is being rushed. In my case I was not an advanced player but I was pretty good. I had maybe a dozen decent pieces of classical guitar at my fingertips, all memorized that I could play nearly perfectly. One of them was Tarrega's "Lagrima". Since I didn't have a lot of material I would milk what I had for all it was worth. In retrospect I might say I played that song like a screaming drama queen. Know what I mean now? There I was, very good technically, but still embarrassing myself and I didn't even know it. My friends thought I was great, but my teacher said, "This is just so shmaltzy". And there are higher levels, finer aspects of taste that come into play, I mentioned a crude one so I could be understood.

  • @z1g

    I know what I am listening to. At the moment I am listening to an idiot. I am sorry, that is rude, but that is how you come across. Only an idiot would say "took his lunch money" in reference to anything musical. It is not a competition. Nobody is taking anyone's lunch money, nobody is winning anything.
