Awesome vid! Love the way you have systematically broken everything down and how thoroughly you've gone through the process. Whilst personally I find having two power supplies and the USB cable dangling out of the case inelegant, they seem the most reasonable solution. I'll be sure to check out your more recent vids! 👍🏼
I can’t seem to find the cmdline.txt in the microsd. Would I put the line in the recalbox config file instead? And also when I connect the pandora box to the raspberry pi, if it is just the usb connected in the pandora box, then only 2 buttons work on the top part of the pandora box on one side. But if I power on the pandora box, it works, but I am also controlling the menu in the pandora box while using it as a controller on the raspberry pi. Let me know if you can help me as I will be greatly appreciate of it.
iv started doing this to my bootleg Pandoras box, but then I got up to the part where you need to connect the pause button to the raspberry pi as I need to buy some more loom wire to connect m,y led buttons. I hope this works out in the end, ive slowly managed to get all the wires I need and I feel like im halfway there, im a bit intimidated by the editing the code in recalbox that comes next. Thank you for your video, your the only person ive seen whose managed this.
I made an USB Arcade by using the pcb board of a xbox 360 controller. I'd like to use this controller as 2 different players on recalbox by mapping some buttons to player 1 and other buttons to player 2. Do you know how can i do that?
I have a raspberry pi 3 and I set it up in my pandora box like you showed but it's not recognizing any of the controllers. Can you help or does anyone have any ideas?
I've tesed to see what the PB USB address is an its not showing on the pi, it shows three usb hub addresses and one for the wireless mouse / keyboard dongle I have attached. do I have to change a setting in the PB so this works ?
If you have a raspberry pi 4 console, can you connect it to the pandora’s box to use the controllers from the pandora’s box with out doing all of this or would you only be able to use the controllers from the console? My technical knowledge is limited LOL.
If you plug the Pandoras box into a rasberry pi 4 without making the quarks entry...it will only recognize player one, and you will never be able fo use the 2nd player side of your arcade stick...you may be able to plug in another controller but playing on a half working arcade stick sucks.
Whats up man, I have a pandora box just like the one you're upgrading, I unplugged the push buttons because I made an arcade cabinet and needed to put a different decal on it and now the coin button doesn't work the screen send me straight to continue or exit as soon as I select a game, but when I press continue it goes back to the same continue or exit window. Do you know what I need to do? I ordered new buttons but I doubt thats the problem. Thank you.
Thanks so much! I used your tutorial exactly. However the Pandora's coin buttons don't register in my rasberry pi. Any suggestions? Can I add buttons to the Pandora's system board to use in retropie or possibly alter the coin button wiring to work through USB?
Trying to adding my controller but it only detects 1. My device is (I have a Pandora's Box 5s) 17c0:06e1 would I change it to: usbhid.quirks=0x17c0:06e1:0x040
hmmm. I'm puzzled for sure. I have a different PB than yours and it works? I would maybe check out the recalbox or retropie forums to see if they have an idea. Cause it ultimately has to be supported by the software.
Hey I have a Pandora's Box 4S as well and I want to change the coin button into LED and I am wondering how am I going to power up my LED button and what kind of wirin work do I need to do? It is working but I just need the extra two wires to be connected to some kind of power source so the light could turn on
+Zoa's Video Games & Arcade Tours you have to find 12v on the circuit board. it's usually a yellow wire for 12v, red for 5v, black for ground. test to make sure with multimeter.
Hey! I'm assuming you can do this for the 6s? Anything you wish you could have changed to make it better? Also, think I can install a trackball in it? TIA!
when I connect the USB port (any of the two) to my PC it does not recognise the controller (nothing happens). If I switch the pandora's box on then Windows 10 recongises it and it appears in the device manager list. Same thing of course happens when I connect it to the rasberry pi. Any ideas ? :( How do I fix this ? Thanks in advance.
Hi, do you happen to know the procedure for Retropie in order for the pandora box to be considered as two separate controller? I haven't purchased a pandora controller yet. What is your opinion on the ultra thin models sold on Alibaba.com (all black or white even blue)
The procedure should be the same for retropie. Adding the usbhid.quirks entry. Thinner means less room. I have ordered tons of stuff from Banggood and never had issues though.
I have the pandora 5s and recalbox works 1 player, I try the sd card cmdline.txt but says recovery file ,wont let me go into file ,and I went to cmdline.txt in raspberry put the numbers push control x it I'll not save it says error any ideas thank u
Try this: Plug an usb keyboard and press Shift during the recalbox boot to access recovery menu. Then press "e" to get the edition menu, and make you changes here. You can switch the language and keyboard mapping by pressing "l" and "k".
Yeah I just gutted my pandoras box, used pc encoders for each individual stick, kept the wires inside the pandoras box. Undid the pandoras box composite output and fed the wires through there for power and hdmi. Not that clean of a job, but less of a mess inside and can always use the Pandora box as two seperate ps4 controls using a brooks converter. Good stuff though! I wouldn't have thought to keep both functions like that
Having an issue with controller setup. The hot key is messing up the controllers in game play. Is there an option to skip that. Or how to go about exiting games after you are done playing
+misfits the what happens when you set up the hot key? Mine works just fine for exiting or loading save states. Other option is to get a Bluetooth keyboard or controller set up for exiting. I have a wireless keyboard that i hooke up to mine for times when i need to type something.
that's a strange one. Either it's a physical connection issue or software didn't map those properly. Hook up a keyboard and go to the the raspberry pi controller settings to remap them. Also you may wanna check out my other RPi video, it's another way to install an RPi, if you don't want the Pandora games. ruclips.net/video/cFY26xVpV38/видео.html
Nice setup. I used those USB/Hdmi on my arcade 1up. It's on one of my videos. What I will do is try to recognize my Pandora Box 6 2nd player But I won't install on the inside because I will be switching from my Arcade 1up to the pandora box 6 system.
There are reports that the 2nd controller doesn't get detected by retropie for some reason. but if you don't mind just 1 player working... best to use Recalbox.
hi, i followed your instructions. device id is 19fd:3232 . what has to be the usbhid.quirks then? i tried usbhid.quirks=0x19fd:0x3232:0x40 . but still only recognizes 1 controller. btw. im using a pandora's box 6 (arcade box super). any help would be much appriciated.
That should be correct. But yiu have to make sure that's correct and not for some other usb device. Another option is gpio as shown in my other video. ruclips.net/video/cFY26xVpV38/видео.html
So I just did this with a pandora 5S, works great except 1 thing. And I just rewatched your video again. The little lightning bolt in the corner. There’s a low voltage reading at the raspberry pi!!! Would have been good of you to point out
Power supply is not sufficient. I had a similar problem with a Chinese 5v 3amps power supply (aluminium enclosure). I increased the voltage to +- 5.2v and the lightning bolt disappeared. But indeed it could be due also to poor cable quality.
Love this video!! I think I've watched it 20 times so far haha. I just received a PB6 (obviously not a real PB) because it allows you to add more games... unfortunately it's a little laggy, and the functionality is a bit limited. Could I request a video describing how to actually swap the board with a Raspberry Pi, as opposed to adding another one?
I cant find roms that work, you said plenty of other vids for that but I cant find them, ones that work like I said so any links to rom sites that really have working roms?
I got it back to normal but the controller doesn't work with all the Pi games like the fighting games are missing two buttons . I've configured the controllers many times but no luck
+Hitman19 try the other USB port. There's 2 usually. Try another cable in case it's bad. Try Recalbox instead of retropie. Some things to try for trouble shooting.
kenVersus I've tried all that beside just switching to recalbox which I might just have to do that but from stuff I've looked up there might be something I need to do with a ATTRS input command thing do you think that may work
This is the quirks entry for my pandora 3D usbhid.quirks=0x0314:0x0119:0x040 Anyone with this box can place this code at the end of the cmd.txt file found by searching your sd card to get the 2nd stick working on the pandora 3d..
@@BigHushAffiliate in my eyes, I have an amazing machine that works perfect, if you do or don't and would like too add mods that's absolutely fine. I was just happy with mine.

+brando92711 it's just an option if you have a pb already. Some people don't want to bother with a rpi and download ROMS and setup. I use my raspberry pi for console games. With this setup I bring just this arcade when I go to a friend's house and it has both a rpi and pandoras in one arcade unit. Try to find an empty arcade stick and shove a rpi in it. Like this ruclips.net/video/K1g3ITLSETE/видео.html
yes that is correct with retropie up and left don't work with recalbox just go to Cmdline.txt and follow the youtube as u will use keyboard f4 then alt f2 then type sn root password recalbox then mount-o remount, rw /boot enter then nano /boot/cmdline.txt enter then follow the you tube
Just received an Pandora Box 5 Dual Arcade Stick, and for your information the new V5 manages differently how you connect to a PC/Raspberry. First you have to power on the Pandora Box, apparently USB power is not enough. and you have to plug one USB cable for player one, and use the other USB port for player two (so you need 2 USB cables, but no longer need to editing cmdline.txt). You have to use the power supply of the Pandora Box and that's boring, so I will see if I can exchange the pcb for a 4S/4S+, it seems to be compatible.
I bought the 1099 in 1 pandoras box 6s... Which is NOT a fake.... Its Modified to be able to add and remove rom. I have like 1437 roms running on the system. ..easy. People talk mad shit on line about my version. .. It still has a Pandora's Box title screen. It just comes...right out the box. ..with the ability to upgrade your roms library. My machine is the shit...its Made by Meco...and runs smooth....light's up...LED...lights...and all that Shit. .. Paid $135.oo Plus $45...shipping Brand NEW. ....from China. People need to stop Hating on these arcade systems. ... It's cheep...go grab one.... Or shut the Fux up already. ..
Pandoras box 5 as been released with upgraded hardware. I just changed my board to the upgraded hardware for 70 uk pounds, i do have the same box as this guys video. Well worth the upgrade.
I'm seriously considering picking up a 6 within the next week or so, haven't found any footage of the 6 on youtube. How much of a pain in the ass it it to load more games to it? Much appreciated (replacing an old game elf)
6 is a clone with slower hardware. It would be easier to get a pi 3 and a image with all the roms on, best of both worlds although the raspberry pi is way better.
Checkout my latest video where I replace the it completely with a RPi3 and using the GPIO for a clean install. ruclips.net/video/cFY26xVpV38/видео.html

Perfect. This should allow me to play 4 player games right? I’m a noob so it’s all new to me. Sorry. And thanks! Merry Christmas!!

I've tesed to see what the PB USB address is an its not showing on the pi, it shows three usb hub addresses and one for the wireless mouse / keyboard dongle I have attached.
do I have to change a setting in the PB so this works ?
It really depends on the pi distro you use recalbox or retropi. And a lot of the new Pandora box clones maybe not work...
I have a rasberry pi 3 and it doesn't see the pandora box (bootleg I belive) as a controller. Any idea why?
Going to try this with Pandora 4. Ordered all the parts and new joystick and buttons. Any advice from others who have tried this.

Make sure you configure the buttons in recalbox settings. I didn't have issues with that. I didn't use retropie so that might be the difference.

It should work. However, you have to be sure that is the device ID. cause usually when you do an LSUSB, there are a few other devices listed.
Still not working I made sure I had the right ID with the LSUSB command is there somewhere else I can look?
Also for some reason it does not recognize my "Select" button

Is there an alternative to re routing the power button? I wanna use retropie but not sure how to route it using that program.
The process would be different for retropie I believe. There should be other tutorials on youtube for that.
Hi!
Is it possible to had 2 controllers as well? Instead for 2 players with the joystick board, would add 2 more players with 2 controllers.
+Igor Peças yes. You can add additional players with Bluetooth controllers or wired USB to the raspberry pi.
Amazing video! Are the procedures the same if I run Retropie instead of Recallbox?
It should work but i think RetroPie has some issues if read the comment from others. I use recalbox

Did you solve the low voltage on the Pi? because of the little thunder symbol on the screen...
I had to use a different power adapter and cable.
Does this Tutorial also work with the original Pandoras Box 5 connecting to Raspberry?
It should work but i don't have a 5 to test.
I am using retropie, how would i find the file to put usbhid.quirks=0x16c0:0x05e0:0x040
Hi some users of RetroPie say they have issues with usbquirks. I use recalbox so I wouldn't know.
Does the raspberry pi come loaded with games
No it doesn’t come with games.
How do you load the games
Great video helped me loads, got the same ID as you but on both sticks it does not see left or up, any ideas???
that's a strange one. Either it's a physical connection issue or software didn't map those properly. Hook up a keyboard and go to the the raspberry pi controller settings to remap them.

cool thanks

+brando92711 it's just an option if you have a pb already. Some people don't want to bother with a rpi and download ROMS and setup. I use my raspberry pi for console games. With this setup I bring just this arcade when I go to a friend's house and it has both a rpi and pandoras in one arcade unit. Try to find an empty arcade stick and shove a rpi in it. Great information!
That’s not a headphone jack on the raspberry pie it’s an AV JACK
yes that is correct with retropie up and left don't work with recalbox just go to Cmdline.txt and follow the youtube as u will use keyboard f4 then alt f2 then type sn root password recalbox then mount-o remount, rw /boot enter then nano /boot/cmdline.txt enter then follow the you tube
Genius
Just received an Pandora Box 5 Dual Arcade Stick, and for your information the new V5 manages differently how you connect to a PC/Raspberry. First you have to power on the Pandora Box, apparently
USB power is not enough. and you have to plug one USB cable for player one, and use the other USB port for player two (so you need 2 USB cables, but no longer need to editing cmdline.txt). You have to use the power supply of the Pandora Box and that's boring, so I will see if I can exchange the pcb for a 4S/4S+, it seems to be compatible.

Thanks for the info
Pants are Dragon? Is that you?
Very cool!
Good job
Great work, but what a mess.
Check my new tutorial where it's a cleaner install if you don't want the builtin Pandora games.
