Soccer League - played on the Nokia 1600

It's been a while since I uploaded some mobile phone gaming but I know a lot of you have happy memories of the playing some of these old school games for many hours while waiting for busses or killing time.
Many years ago I picked up a couple of old mobile phones for just £1 each (could have fitted in my Sonic's Quid Game series that I really must revisit) that were allegedly faulty. The phones were fine.
One of those phones was the Nokia 1600 - a fairly basic phone - but it has a few pre-installed games. This is one of them - Soccer League. It is a fairly basic top down game of football but in fairness plays decently enough.
I love this era of phone games and there are so many to cover. This video is a quick match just to show the game off. Apologies for the wobbly camera footage. The screen on the 1600 is fairly small (plus the screen was cracked - this was the fault - so I removed the top cover to provide an unimpeded view of the game itself) So I'm trying to hold the phone still as possible & play the game through the camera viewfinder. It is so close up that the slightest movement looks massive on here. Still - I think the ability to count the individual pixels lends it a certain amount of charm :-)
Anyway I thought this might trigger some memories for a few of you.
Also - let me know what you think. Would you prefer the load times and screens to be edited out? I kinda like the "full experience" approach and to let the game or promo video or whatever to speak for itself but let me know feedback. I'm keen to experiment.
I'm also sorting my loft and finding all sorts of obscurities, oddities and nice games from my collection so I'll be doing some random vids. Let me know if there is a console or game you'd like to see. Let me know if there are any games or consoles you'd like videos about. Let me know if you like the format (i.e. no voiceover and the addition of short facts). Want End Cards added to point out other similar videos? I'm just trying things really.
As always game is played on original hardware - no emulation etc This is played on a Nokia 1600 handset and filmed directly from the screen.

I used to use a trick, by dribbling the ball along the edge of the field, and it worked 😂
Another trick is to dribble the ball into the net without shooting it and you got a goal 😂

Até uns 12 anos atrás meu pai utilizava o nokia 1600, que continha esse jogo maravilhoso. Eu e ele fazia competição, de quem conseguia marcar mais gols na copa. Meu recorde foi de 49 gols marcados, do meu pai 50, ele era um jogador muito bom.

Love retro games. While modern stuff is amazing in so many ways and there are loads of incredible titles out there and some I love I do have a soft spot & passion for the older titles. The limitations of the hardware & the creative ways they overcome them is just a joy & all the more impressive.

Have you ever tried to copy the game from your cell phone to your computer for other people to download?
This was peak mobile gaming..before Android with its microtransaction,, spyware, ads and crappy games took over.

I didn't download it - it was pre-installed on the phone. It was one of the games that came loaded with it back in the day.

@@greyfox1127 After winning the tournament over and over with all the big name teams it got boring but some how I kept it interesting by playing a mini euro competition where I had all the six European teams playing against each other twice , the top four teams after ten games played a straight semi final match to determine the finalist the down side to it was I could only use Spain and France.
I had about 100 wins with Spain compared to 85 with France , Spain's 100th win was the last time I ever played that game. Also to add before the mini European competition I also did an EPL format thing using only the top teams

@@kimanireid6111 Ah that sounds awesome! It's always amazing when you get to the point with a game where you invent tournaments & rules etc Sounds like you truly mastered it.
I remember something similar when I was student & we played International SuperStar Soccer 64 in multiplayer with various combinations of housemates all playing on the same side in our student house. We ended up in the Master League with strikers scoring tons of goals so we would "retire" them when they got to 100 goals. It literally got ridiculous. Great times!

I became so good in this game, I believe I was the best player in the world. I scored 32 goals in one match
Wow - pretty comprehensive score line that (assuming the defence didn't leak 33 obviously!). I've definitely never cored anywhere near that in a single match. Great stuff!
@@greyfox1127 There were very specific and easy tricks. If once figured out, the whole game is more easy than breathing.
@@AbhishekSanyalTGV sounds like you mastered it though! Lots of games have "exploits" or sweet spots to score from etc the trick is working them out.
I remember in Sega WorldWide Soccer 97 you could hit a long pass from just inside the half & the opposition goalie would always parry it straight to your striker for an easy tap in. We had to ban that from multiplayer games!
