I'm 42 and a tesol certified teacher... next wedensday is my first day teaching (I'm so nervous. starting a completely new career at 42 turns out to be very challenging). thank you for sharing your teaching techniques and valuable advice. wish me luck!
Just be yourself and good luck Peace Seeker!
Ahh dude. I taught my first english class at 52. Retired myself and started doing this. Incredibly rewarding! This video is greatly informative and, I'm sure, helped a helluva lot. Cheers to you
Buena suerte
@@antonlombard7945 where do you teach?
How is your new career? Do you manage? How is your challenge? Interesting?
I completely agree with your suggestions and advice. I’ve been teaching ESL in Japan for over 20 years and the first 15 or so were very frustrating with their hesitancy to speak. I realized that they learn the other aspects of English at their schools and cram schools, so in my class I began to focus 90% on speaking and I see a huge difference now. I also love to praise their effort and encourage them to feel proud even when they make a mistake, because then we turn that into a mini lesson and all of the children learn from it. We all say thank you to the student for them helping to teach our class that day (with their unintentional mistake). Love your videos and even after teaching ESL for so many years, I still learn so much. Thank you!
Hi Holly!
Thank you for your kind comment. I feel blessed to know there are teachers with a similar with regards to English teachers. I always appreciate the experience that other educators bring to my views on teaching.
I'll try to share more ideas in the future. 😊🙏
@@etacude The biggest point I took from this is the "Do you understand?" question. I ask this but I often do not follow up to verify what their understanding is, if any.
Get students to work in pairs! This will go a long way towards helping students build confidence.
Would you please provide me with tips and strategies?
It has been my desire to be a teacher in Japan, ever in my life... But I do not live in Japan so, yet, it is just a dream...

Lots of great tips here. Teaching ESL to students in the United States means that we also have to consider the student population's goals. I teach ESL to college students who are recent immigrants or refugees, and we have to target the students' writing, reading, listening, and speaking skills so that they can be ready to succeed in college classes. Certainly speaking is the skill that they often need to most, but we also have to help them with the other skills so that they can perform well in college-level classes.
My top tip is to get students to work together in pairs or small groups as much as people. Anything to get away from a very teacher-centred classroom!
I just got a job and need to start next week. This video is extremely helpful! You're an amazing teacher! Thank you, thank you!!

We must always be active with the students because it is not so easy to teach them, but if there is patience, you can reach the goal teacher eric
Patience is so important ~ especially with young learners. We should also bring energy to our classes, just like you said , Mario. 😃

Me encantó!!!
I really appreciate these videos. I'm planning to be a good ESL Teacher and to do it, I should improve myself more in speaking English. Thank you for these advices. I'm not really confident in speaking English but I don't want to let myself on that stage. I need to practice.
Don't worry about being perfect! Your only goal is to help your learners however you can. Definitely get them to speak and improve their confidence, and eventually, yours will too! 😄
@@etacude omg thank youuuu!
Hi. I like your videos and all the information you take time to gather and share. could you do one on how to teach an EFL class? I would love to learn it from you and know your insights. thanks for all your efforts.
Ty, this is very helpful.❤
Thank you for watching. I'm happy to share!
Excellent ❤
Thank you, sir. I plan to teach my kids English myself due to the difficulty in finding an English class here that is suitable for my child. Although they will learn English in school, unfortunately, they only learn how to read and write in English and not how to speak it.
Very informative.
I'm so nervous. I'm starting the TEFL course at chiang mai university next week. This is definitely going to take me out of my comfort zone as I am naturally introverted and studied computer science my whole life.
Thank u so much..
I really love ur videos..👍

I can't thank enough. After watching your video, I am able to grasp a vivid picture about ESL Teacher. This is a valued channel of education I 've ever known. Thank you teacher !

Thanks Much!
You're welcome!
Thanks a lot Regards Syed Saiful Mahmood from Bangkok Thailand English teacher here
Welcome!
Eric you are the best ever
Thank you Sou!
Great Video and Ideas - Even though I add many interactive games within my ESL lessons and make lessons as fun as I can (Which my students also find very fun to do) - Personally I still find teaching English - utterly boring most of the time - and an ambiguous subject to teach- It is hard to structure lessons properly. That is why I love/prefer teaching science. Much easier to teach using powerpoints/whiteboard and you get to do fun experiments
Nice way of teaching
Thank you sir provided very relative information ❤️ best of luck 🤞
Thank you Zia Jan!

Wow, you are really good! I've been teaching a group of 7 teens conversational class in France and they are so unmotivated. Maybe you can make a video on how to motivate teenagers and how to start an ESL class. Should I write down the key points on the board beforehand or whilst I teach? Thanks!
Eric. You´re handsome, smart and creative English teacher. I love your posts.
