TENACITY // Both Pre and Post Emergent Weed Control
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 27 ноя 2024
- I used Tenacity as both a pre and post emergent weed control measure as part of my prep to new and over seeding. Tenacity is a great product to be used just prior to seeding because it does not stop the germination of lawn seeds, but does for many weed seeds (check the label for a complete list). Tenacity should control weed germination in the new and existing Fescue lawn on the side and will work as a pre and pst emergent for those areas as well.
WARNING: If you have Bermuda grass, Tenacity is not recommended. In the video I use it on my Bermuda because I know Tenacity will probably not kill it, but I am by no means recommending it's use on someone else's lawn.
In the meantime, please read all Labels carefully!!!
All products can be purchased at the following online stores:
Amazon: www.amazon.com/
DoMyOwn: www.domyown.com/
I found the prices were better on the DoMyOwn site. There are also other sites out there, but these are the ones I use on a regular basis.
WARNING: A word of warning about the quantities I used along with safety:
1) The quantities I used are based on suggestion I have heard from other RUclips sites. Please read all labels and understand this is a mixture I used and is by no means a requirement for anyone. You are welcome to experiment and use other people's recommendations.
2) Please use proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). These are chemicals and need to be used with caution. Always use protective lenses or goggles and always use neoprene or latex gloves. These chemicals work through absorption and since we have porous skin, we can and probably will absorb these chemical if we do not use caution and proper PPE.
The mixture I used:
1 Tsp Tenacity
3 Tsp Surfactant
4 Tsp Lawn Dye
2 Gal Water
These quantities can be divided and multiplies depending on your coverage area. I would recommend mixing a small batch and testing it on your lawn in a small and inconspicuous space before rolling the dice and using it across your entire lawn. But to each his/her own.

Thanks for this video! I used tenacity on my lawn and ended up with white Bermuda grass. At first I thought it was all weed but was shocked to see it’s the actual grass that turned white. 😢
Yeah, Tenacity is not meant for Bermuda, but fortunately the Bermuda should survive.
PhD in Tenacity!
Good tip from George. I did backyard fescue prior to seeding. It was cool to see the bleaching effect. Starter fert I put out had generic tenacity in it. Weeds are about 80% gone. Excited to see how the pre-emergent side works. Your backyard shot from left side looked Good!
Yes, the Tenacity is a good product when used properly. I have not used it as a pre-emergent before so I am curious to see how effective it is as well.
Matt at the grass factor did a really deep discussion on tenacity and it was very revealing regarding its efficacy
I watched it and I planned accordingly. As with most products you need to understand proper use and application rates and that it's not fire and forget. I have used the product before and it worked well for me. His information was very good and helpful.
Hello, from France…
Just to be sure, is it possible to apply tenacity before new seeds? (Ray grass / fetuce)
And please, How many weeks before?
Tenacity can be applied anytime. There is no waiting period. It can even be applied on the same say as seeding.
@@TheLawnShark thanks!
@@laurentzanettin6832 Anytime!
Nice work Dino. I like to spike my tenacity apps with a little Gordon’s Speed Zone. Gives it a little extra kick for the things Tenacity won’t handle. 💪🇺🇸
Good to know. My application was mostly as a Pre-emergent. My weed problem is not as extensive, so for this application the Tenacity should do the trick. But thanks for the tip. I will keep it in mind! Thanks Bro!!! 👊
🌞Cool video. Rye should do pretty good in TN. Great plan, and look forward to seeing the results.🌞
Thank you! Really hoping the Rye works out well.
After treating my cool season lawn (KBG, Tall Fescue and Ryegrass)) with Tenacity and waiting the 2-days after treating, my lawn (with the white dying weeds) needs a mowing. Should I mow my lawn with bag (grass/weed catcher attached) or should I mulch and allow the Tenacity applied dying weeds to fall down into the soil and compost?
Which is most effective for long term distribution of the Post emergent herbicide to work into the soil bed to prevent new weeds from growing?
Do you mean bag the clippings or mulch? If that's what you are asking, I would bag.
@@TheLawnShark I’m reading mixed views. Some say it’s best to mulch the tenacity sprayed weeds. You say bag (why? What’s the benefit in bagging the Tenacity sprayed weeds?)
@@carmelom269 for me, it’s because I want to get rid of any weeds that may not be completely dead when I mow. Whenever I have weeds prevalent, I don’t want to spread them throughout the lawn. Different people see it different ways, but that’s my logic, it that makes sense.
@@TheLawnShark I comprehend your logic, in part, but, if you have treated the weeds in your lawn with Tenacity Herbicide which can take up to 2-3 weeks to begin to kill weeds, it seems to make sense that mulching the (Dying turning white) weeds (as opposed to bagging) is a good way to get more of the herbicide down into the soil bed (via the tenacity infected weeds composting/decaying) where the Tenacity can also establish itself within the root/soil base foundation for attacking the weed seeds (Pre-emergent). Bagging process seems to be counterintuitive as one would be removing tenacity from lawn and soil bed. (Would be nice if there were more instruction on the actual product as it relates to post application and mowing methods.)
@@carmelom269 First, I really appreciate this interaction. I enjoy the discussion and hearing other people's perspective. Second, I understand what you are saying and I don't really think there is a wrong answer here. Also, keep in mind that the Tenacity is already in the soil from when you first sprayed. Tenacity works in a couple ways, it bleaches the plant to prevent it from producing chlorophyll through photosynthesis, and it also works as a pre-emergent in the soil. Which is why I do not think there is a wrong answer here and it's merely a matter of preference. Again, I appreciate the interaction and let me know how it works for you!
Used Tenacity for the first time in a newly moved house after so many great reviews. The yard is infested with many different kinds of weeds and applied 48 hours ago and I see ZERO changes to the yard. How long does it usually take for it to take effect??
It can take 7-14 days. You will see it turn lighter and then will bleach white. The way it works is it removes the weed's process photosynthesis, which starves the plant. The plant won't immediately die, but it will die over time.
Very specific use and application you went with! Great idea, and great info in the video!
Thanks so much, Don! I appreciate the feedback!
Question-My backyard has a ton of weeds and I'm thinking of spraying Tenacity in the next couple of weeks. Then 2-3 weeks after that do a second application and also overseed at that time. Is this okay you guys think?
It should be ok. Tenacity will allow you to seed at the same time or soon after.
Great video and explanation, even got the Blue man group in the video, funny. Thanks.👍👍👍
Thanks! I try to keep it as light as possible. Appreciate you catching it! 😂
Great video! How many times a year do you spray Tenacity? I’m thinking 3 times - March, Aug, and Sep. I wonder if that’s enough. My current yard is 40% weeds. Perhaps, I will need to spray more in the first year.
Thanks! I like Tenacity, but I use it sparingly and specifically to control crabgrass in cool season lawns. If you have that many weeds, I would go with something like TZone. It is a more effect weed killer. Just be prepared to have a lot of dead spots, so you will want to to be prepared to seed the bare spots. If you are up north, you may want to wait until the fall when you can do a good re-seed.
@@TheLawnShark Thanks for the great feedback! Yes, I’m in Northeast. Many parts of my lawn are 100% weeds. I will look into T Zone.
@@klaymoon1 Check out my last video. I just did a treatment with TZone and it may be informative. Let me know if you have questions.
My lawn is beautifully green... BUT it is 70% crabgrass. So, if I treat with Tenacity (per instructions) I will kill 70% of my lawn. My question is. How long after treating with Tenacity can I over-seed and fertilize and should I use starter fertilizer in this case?
So... Tenacity will kill stuff, but it may take a few applications. The beauty of Tenacity is that you can seed and fertilize immediately. However, this all depends on your grass type. Cool season grasses need to wait until fall at this point to seed. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!
What variety of PRG did you decide to go with?
I went with the *SS9000 Perennial Ryegrass Blend* from www.seedsuperstore.com/. I heard great things about it and I don't know enough to make a single cultivar choice.
The Lawn Shark 🦈 fair enough, it will be a good comparison for the tttf.
I wish I could do the rye down here in North Ga. I just don't think it would take
@@TurfCulture Definitely!
@@BermudaBrian It would probably do well for 9 months, but the summer down there would smoke it for sure!
Waiting for the Rye Grass impatiently 😂😉👌🏾🌱
You and me both! 👊👍🏼💪🏼
Will tenacity harm bermuda seed if I put it down in the fall and then seed in the spring???
I don't know how it will affect Bermuda seed, but I do know Tenacity is not recommended for used with Bermuda.
Yeah, I am a fan of Tenacity. It's not the cure for everything does exactly what I need it to. I use when over seeding or planting new.
Me too, but I have to be careful with the Bermuda... right up until now... :)
@@TheLawnShark yeah, I forgot you have warm season.
Thanks for the shoutout Dino:)
No problem! It was a great idea! Thanks brother!
Where can I purchase Tenacity?
Here is where I get it. amzn.to/48aQK3y
Thanks for watching!
Weeds keep growing after applying tenacity 4 days. Is it normal?
Yes. Tenacity takes time. The way tenacity works on growing plants is it bleaches the plant and prevents photosynthesis which eventually kills the plant. You will start to see the plants turn white and may require a second application a week or two after the initial app. Tenacity is also a good pre-emergent which won't prevent grass seeds from growing while preventing weed seeds from germinating.
@@TheLawnShark Thanks bro! So I can mow the weed/grass a week after first app, and then app again, right?
@@yiyunboy I would wait two weeks between apps, and wait a week before mowing fire the bleaching to take effect!. Let me know how it turns out!
That's what I love about Bermuda it's the strongest grass on the planet you can't kill it. Do what you want lol. For example I burn my Bermuda instead of scalping it in the spring. 2. I throw sand down early spring after the burn down before green up cuz I can see the undulations(bumps and dips).you will be surprised what you can see once you remove all the material/blades of grass on top of the ground.
I am definitely going to try this next year! Not sure how my HOA will feel about it, but whatever! 😂👊
@@TheLawnShark yeah you do need to be a little more careful than me, especially since you got the houses on the side but I don't think you have any Bermuda to burn on the sides anyways. Have to have that dormant grass for it to burn , green grass won't burn. what's tricky about doing this is in the early spring is everything is so wet ,its hard to find a span where you dont get rain for at least 5 days. That's when it works the best. Also a 5-10 mph wind will help too
my neighbor came down after I burnt it down last spring and said lisnt all your dirt going to wash away since you don't have grass anymore. . and I took my shovel and dug it in the top of the ground there and all the Bermuda stolons and rhizomes were all just thick in the top inch of the thatch layer.. I couldn't hardly get the get the the dirt to break loose from it and I told him I said that soil isn't going anywhere lol. It actually fillls in pretty quick maybe one to two weeks. Doing this you notice you'll get longer green up time too. it stayed nice and tight and short for like two months after this was some of the cold spells we got I didn't have to mow hardly any in the first two months after burning because it was still too cool for the Bermuda to go crazy growing but just it warm enough for it to green up and look really nice
Randy Man
This is great information! I’m definitely gonna try it. I’m sure I’ll get a letter from the HOA, but I’ll survive!
Good afternoon.
👋 How's it going?
Finally upgrading to the sissygrass? 🤣😂
Yup! 😂😂😂 But just on the Putting green. I think I may be too far south for it to be a permanent solution for the whole lawn and for the whole year, especially when it's July and the temps are border-line Broiler-hot!
