Paul Wiley achieves the most perfect body lines and postures--plainly seen in his spectacular spread eagles (no rear sticking out like most--rather a perfect body-unit-line!!!), his spirals extend well above most; and I totally melt, seeing his back, laid over to the extreme on his E. Bauers!! Most leave out these graceful moves. Others execute them in only a short few seconds, whereas Paul glides at length, displaying them breathtakingly! Paul includes the greatest variety and quality of artistic little gems, in between his technically more grand content. He virtually eliminates obvious "set-up" approaches and entrances into major jumps and spins. (These are sadly disappearing from skating repertoire, with sole emphasis placed on technical--not artistic value.) There are many other excellent, skilled technicians among skaters. However, Paul is in a class incomparable--with his artistry, musicality, showmanship, and his love for this art-form which is tangibe to viewers! This panel of judges unanimously agreed, all giving perfect 10 scores for artistic merit. No "politics" here--he earned it. (We need more emphasis on artistry--skating needs a revival in this: who cares how technically difficult any content is, if it's not beautifully executed?)
It's been 25 years, and I still think about this amazing performance every time I see a skater on the ice. I'm so glad to see that it lives on here on RUclips, and I'm not the only one who remembers it! Every moment of this is absolutely fantastic.
His spread eagles are absolutely gorgeous! I don't think any other skater past, present, or future could do better spread eagles. He's just unmatched for artistic, musical skating.
I love Paul Wiley and still do. Paul is the greatest. I remember watching this performance on TV years ago and it brought me to tears. It still thrills me all these years later. I love you Paul
This deserves 10s across the board on both marks! He skates with his heart and soul and great stretch and body line. You don't see this anymore. He's truly a special skater.
When Paul Wylie left skating, he took the beautY of the sport with him. Outside of Curry, I know of no other skater with the understanding of the music that Wylie was able to project. Figure skating has become a ‘vertical’ sport and because it has morphed into jump, jump and jump.......I no longer watch. Paul, thank you for your performances. Even the ‘bad’ performances were far above today’s attempts. I do miss the collaboration between You and the Scotvolds. There hasn’t been the QUALITY and CLASS in the sport since you left!
How I miss the scratch spin. Today's judging gives it almost no points so few do it! Paul & Scott Hamilton are the last skaters to truly "blur" spins. Paul is the closest thing I've seen to John Curry - IMHO the best skater of all time. Johnny Weir also has the elegance, grace & musicality you never see anymore! It's all about quads...dull
A little late to reply, but for those who might be reading if you want to see the textbook definitive perfect scratch spin, search for Dorothy Hamill doing it.
Hi Paul I'm proud of you, I'm proud of the fact that you kept your eyes on god, I'm proud of your courage, strength resolve determination, I know our heavenly father is pleased with u, I'm so grateful thankful and blessed to call you my older brother. Thank u for your article that you put in brio magazine years ago. God worked through you to help me overcome my fears, it was a eye opener and a stepping stone that led me to where iam today and have become the women of god that iam. You had a hand in it. Awesome strong program a ten from me. Hugs
Unfortunately the video is about 2 seconds behind the audio. You can hear the crowd cheering his jump landings before he actually jumps. Too bad as this performance may very well have been his best program jump-wise after turning professional. Add in the musical interpretation and it's certainly one of his greatest performances ever.
A MASTERPIECE.

Paul Wylie is the most brilliant artistic skater ever. Period.
He is the most beautiful straight line skater. My favorite male skater ever…
His spread eagles are absolutely gorgeous! I don't think any other skater past, present, or future could do better spread eagles. He's just unmatched for artistic, musical skating.
My gosh, one of the best programs - amateur or pro - that I've ever seen. Just ... awesome.

spartyutube Jason Brown's artistry reminds me of Paul.
I love Jason. And Adam Rippon's has the same balletic style as Paul and Jason...
Scott and Paul started this elegant style.

You should look at the skating of Jason Brown.

That has to be the best he's ever skated

Without skating, he'd still be paying student loans.
who sang the song in this video? Doesnt sound like Simon Bowman or the original Broadway Chris
It is Simon Bowman
Did Paul Wylie won?
Yes
Pleasantly surprise it's always difficult to beat Brian Boitano
