This is going back on kickstarter shortly. It's an odd one, a reasonably good skirmish game that, if you got very familiar with it, would be a lot of fun. But its very much for the fans of Batman. And I think you really need to be invested in that IP to get the most out of it. I'm not, and a fair few of the heroes and villains were a mystery to me. But I had a good friend test it with me who is a collosal comic book fan. His guides to collecting comic books are pretty extensive, and he's currently working on Batman. If you want a deep dive into comics, check him out here. crushingkrisis.com
Its a solid enough game, don't get me wrong. But at the price tag, you really need to be invested in the IP and Minis to really get your moneys worth out of it. For some people, this will be a dream game. But for others, that price tag is a lot. I actually didn't mind the rulebook, but I came up through wargames which are overly procedural compared to most modern rulebooks. So I can accept that criticism of it, even though it didn't impact me. Some translation issues as well, but i'm also reasonably forgiving of that because, well, I get that English isn't the only language in the world :)
Fair. I think that's an issue with the game. Someone has to know what all those symbols mean and all the rules for moving up and down. Its one that would get better with familiarity for sure. But, you would really have to invest the time in it.
They really should. It would make a big difference. I mean, im used to games like Warmachine, so it wasn't too bad. But even then, before each scenario I was doing a bunch of checking
Excellent condensed overview. I watch your videos first whenever available. My only correction on this one would be to point out that each map does not show the movement costs and other detail instructions, instead, as you know, each map overview page shows this, along with other important information. The map themselves are beautiful but still need this information incorporated to make them fully independent. Currently my rulebook and back of the mission book, with their thin glossy magazine paper integrity feature multiple strips of tape holding them together and mending rips since they have to be constantly handled for reference.
I would be find if they just had them printed out separately from the mission book, ideally on cardstock. You don't really have to reference them a lot, and the board already has a lot on it. Luckily the expansions came with an extra French booklet that serves this purpose well for those missions.
Those are in there, but i guess in a different way. I think this game has a reasonably defined audience. Batman fans and people who like skirmish games and minis. So, the game comparisons really fell down to those. I thought about comparisons to games like Gloomhaven and imperial assault, but that didn't feel right as the game didn't have a campaign.
@@3MBG I do love your alternate game recommendations :) With no campaign drive, in my opinion, Batman is closer to a skirmish game like The Others, no in mechanics but in spirit, they both have 1 vs many with a scenario based objective and distinctive play styles for both sides; Lots of dice chucking and tactical positioning considerations with some resource management thrown in.
Great stuff! But I don't think this game is for me... It's crazy expensive and shiny, and according to your video and NPI's, crazy frustrating to learn, and that's the biggest no no for me! I think I'd rather play Wildlands!
I think its definitely one for more of the miniature wargaming crowd. They wont find it too tricky, but yeah, for people from a euro game background in particular, it will be a challenge.
How did I miss this review?? Decent enough game if you're into Batman and don't mind reading and rereading rule books, but... if not for the IP there's better games for cheaper.

@Allan Nielsen LOL or you could buy 3 better games for the price of it.

This game seems MASSIVE! Great review Jarrod!
Can't wait to figure out how to play this and find some folks that also have learnt to play

@@3MBG I understand that the game aids from their website makes that easier wondering if they will add them as part of the next kickstarter

I like how the moment he says "SPELLS out the victory conditions" you can see the misspelling "victory conditionse" in the manual
Ha, i hadn't noticed that.
We need this one in tabletop simulator!
Props for the Adam west love! BANG! POW! Another excellent review.
He will always be my Batman.
@@3MBG Affleck is my Batman.
As someone who owned and since sold this game, trust me, the villain wins. Every time!
Interesting and contra to the plays we had where the heroes won all but one game.
Jajaja!!! Lovely video, useful and funny. Nananananaaa..Batmaaaannn!!!

How many times did you yell into the microphone until you got the volume just right at the end?
ONCE. One take on that :)
Are there Any special skills for heroes? I havent noticed
HEAPS, each heroes has specials
Another cool review!
Wow. Quick. Concise. Told me everything I wanted to know.
Great review as usual. Just no why would you like this game, why might you not. . and alternate game recommendations.

Very happy to NOT own this one! Nice review!
Perfect. I don't do reviews to sell games. I do reviews to let people know if a game fits for them. So great result, glad i could help

I did this around the time of the 2nd KS campaign
It is a great game but you are right to point out the steep learning curve. The manual and gmae aids are so poorly done.
You just "get" me. This channel is sent from aboveq
Thank you Khristien. Aroha Nui
So its batman Conan.
Pretty much. If you've played Conan, its 90% the same game
pass. pass. pass on this one. Just. Pass.
