I used the Carbide blade, General purpose that the video recommends. It cut through everything like butter! I Cut it in 4 pieces as he did and I carried the pieces out with my brother. Easiest and quickest job I’ve ever done. Honestly what took me the longest was going down to Home Depot to rent the saw and buy the blade.
I wanted to say a quick THANK YOU for posting this video. I've been wondering for over a year just how I was gonna get rid of my 6 man hot tub. I almost hired someone to come and pick it up but the other day I searched how to dismantle an old hot tub and your video popped up first. It worked great! In about an hour I had everything cut up and ready to load. The pieces were light enough so my wife helped me load the four pieces on my trailer. I probably could have loaded them myself but they are awkward shaped so she helped. Such an easy task. Sure appreciate your help!
Your suggestion to do a Diablo blade was spot on. One blade, 30 minutes and a 6 person tub was in 4 sections and I'd never even tried to do one before. Can't see how some of those guys are charging 4 to 5 hundred dollars for doing the same thing. Even buying the blade and a Milwaukie sawzall, I'm only into it for $125 including disposal fee. Had I already had the tool, that cost would have been almost half.
May I ask, what was the disposal fee? How did you get rid of it? Do you just take it to your regular local dump?
@@jscottgp2011 I'm about to do this myself as well. I called my local dump they said I just have to remove the computer control board. Otherwise all goes to landfill for your normal ton weight charge. My area is 65 bucks a ton...so should be 30 ish bucks or so. Then the electronics go in their computer etc pile. $500 is a little excessive, but junk removal companies charge what they charge because they're running a business and have to a.) invest heavily in advertising to land the job, b.) invest heavily in equipment, including tools, trucks, and trailers, c.) hire and KEEP laborers needed to complete the job, d.) pay for sizeable fuel costs to drive all around a city and to the landfill, e.) pay the dump fees and deal with waiting times at the landfill, f.) make a profit to take care of their families, and g.) deal with cheapskate, lazy, good-for-nothing customers that want the job done for next to nothing, who are usually paid much more at their own jobs but try to chisel working people out of a few bucks so they can afford another bottle of wine or a cup holder for their boat. Thanks for the tips! Took me 5 to 6 hours to cut up a really well built, very large hot tub with very limited room to work. I did it all myself as well. It would have been much faster if the hot tub was just sitting on a deck with lots of room around it.
The video was very handy. My only advice is to get 2 blades atleast and use a respirator.
I bought a GVS SPR473 Elipse OV/AG-P100 Dust and Organic/Acid Gas Vapour Half Mask Respirator . Worked great, easy to breathe and saved my lungs from fiberglass dust.
I used a Milwaukee M18 Fuel brushless Sawzall. Worked great since I had 2 5amp batteries.
The carbide blade was the way to go. Me and my 2 boys got our 22 year old hot tub cut up and removed in about 3 hrs.

The guidance here was great. The only suggestions I would make on top of this is that I would recommend, after removing the electronics and pumps, then removing the side panels, is to flip the hot tub upside down so you can remove the bottom wood frame. Otherwise, it’s hard to see it makes it difficult.

Thanks for the video. I'm struggling cutting up the hot tub but I'm using a battery operated DeWalt sawzal. It overheats after a few minutes and just the cutting process is taking longer than expected. Will try an electric one today.

@@JesusPaidItAll Electrical one worked phenomenally! It was a difficult job overall since I did it myself but without the electrical one there was no way I could get it done.

What do you do with the power cord? Do you cut it and leave it under the dirt? Does an electrician have to come to disconnect the cord from the breaker?

Killer job. My question is if I can’t access the sides, it’s built into our deck, what would you do different? I can’t remove the pumps and stuff till I open up the top of it. I guess the only real way to know is to just get in it and start.

Why not an angle grinder or circular saw?
12” Sawzall blade is needed to cut thru the fiberglass, insulation and water lines that you will encounter when cutting. Those small little grinder and saws are cute but won’t get the job done efficiently

By circular saw I meant large concrete saw with appropriate blade. But I went for a reciprocating too in the end and quickly discovered why that's the tool of choice! For anyone else reading this, 12" blade is the way to go, Kango 'wood chopper' made quick work of things
@supremejunkremoval I checked my hardware store and they have the 12 inch diablo carbide demo blade, but I didn't see a general use one. Is it different?

You use a volt meter to verify voltage not a ohm meter!
Recycle those pumps and all the wiring. Cut up one recently that had 4 pumps, a tv and several speakers. Recycling paid for all but $5 of the dump fees.

Cutting one up this weekend for 375 baby!
I cut mine into much smaller pieces (retired - plenty of time on my hands), burned all the wood parts in a burn barrel, loaded up all the rest of the crap in 10 Heavy Duty trash bags, then let my garbage truck guys haul them away.
Pull the fuse, and use a ammeter or hot stick on the line power to the spa/jacuzzi/hot tub. Easy day.
