Thanks for sharing this recipe!! I'm Syrian and make this often. Only I do not toast the walnuts and bread crumbs- I'm sure another layer of flavor is added when toasted..will try it, thanks!
Btw, this freezes EXCELLENTLY! I've used it as a spread on sandwiches and it is perfect!

in syria we eat this in any time of the day ..

I'm glad he mentioned that it was a Syrian invention. I hate when some foods that get popular in countries other than where they were invented and people don't give recognition to the country the foods originated from.

Thank you chef for your amazing recipes. Always informative and fun to watch.
My 2 cents: If you have a pestle, you can skip the processor and add some onions (onions taste awful in a processor) and it'll be a little bit crunchy.
Also if you have it, a spoonful of tahini will be very tasty with this.

Nice one. I had it once a few years ago from the store. That got me researching recipes and now I make it regularly -- including later this week. Your ingredient list is pretty much the same as mine. I sometimes garnish with pine nuts, or also duqqa.

Chef John, please demo egg foo yong and make our Food Wishes come true! It's part of American-Chinese restaurant and takeout thriftiness that uses leftover egg yolks for brightly-colored omelettes that look and taste great. My understanding that with traditional "velveting" of meats with eggwhites, the leftover egg yolks were used to enrich those omelettes, so it's a happy use. In these days of national consciousness of reducing food wastage and keeping an eye on household budgets, maybe it's time to revive the recipe!
