Yes, I graduated high school in 1980. Gunnysack dresses were so popular. We just loved them. I remember they were expensive. If I went to prom, I would of worn one, long length. I really liked when they had velvet on the bodice, and I seem to remember their ties were velvet? Oh, I love this dress! The bodice is gorgeous.
Love the way you did this video. I can't wait for the sew along. I bought the pattern before you bought it, forgot I had it, re-bought it, forgot I had two copies and re-bought it again....................Sigh!
love this dress and love the fabric for the next one. Having worn these types of dresses in the 70's and knowing they were a revisit of styles from the 40s the addition of the piping on the next version would put the dress definitely into a 40s vibe rather than a 70's vibe ( if that makes sense !?!). Looking forwad to seeing the next one.
I agree about the weirdness of the only half gathered skirt with gathered front & back bodice. And I’ve noticed a lot of patterns letting the facings and innards “flap about” and I don’t like it either… I slip stitch those, too.
That turned out gorgeous. I have had my eye on that pattern for the longest time. Just bit worried how puffy the bodice would be with all the gathering into the yoke and waist piece. Turned out really nice, no puffyness. Loved it! Format with all this detail, where you talk us through your process also very interesting and informative. Hope the editing didn’t put you off of doing it again. 😽💕
I love it!! Let me just say, I got married in a garden wedding in May, 1983 and I wore a Gunny Sac dress. It was cream with a beautiful floral. I think it might have had a little lace somewhere. I didn't make it, I purchased it at a beautiful higher end store called Rich's which doesn't exist anymore. But when I saw it I knew it was perfect. I have seen several RUclipsrs making these and yours it the closest to the original. Softer floral are what they were then...but updated it could go anywhere I suppose. Now, I want one. Lol
This is lovely, there is also a bit of an Ossie Clark feel to this dress and I think the fruity print with the piping will show those lines really well, the tiny print in this version has a 70's does 40's feel.
Amazing dress I have this pattern I would love a sew along. Your dress looks great on you a lot of work put into this dress. Love the sleeves well done Sian I look forward to seeing you on the sew along have a beautiful day XX
Love the new format and the dress! I had one very similar in the 70's in a red on white small print. One of my favorites. It's great to see those 70's styles coming back.
I like this pattern the way you have sewn it - for me, I like the busyness of the fabric without piping. Yes, I would lengthen sleeves. You look very pretty in the fabric you chose. Looking forward to sew along! Blessings.
That’s a very pretty dress! 😍 I’m also always confused by skirts with extra volume at the front but not at the back, but it looks really nice in this case. Looking forward to added piping, I think that’ll be great. And I really enjoy the time lapses with voiceover. You always pick nice music as well, but with me sitting here crocheting, having you narrate what you’re doing is nicer. ❤️
I very much like the way you finish the inside of the dress. I cannot imagine those edges left raw. I hate my insides looking bad. I don’t always make the effort to finish the seams off neatly, but I’m never happy unless I do. When I get a compliment I immediately see, in my mind, the mess inside and can’t enjoy someone else’s praise of the garment.
Omg, when I saw the thumbnail I was so excited. I have had this dress partially constructed for over a year. I do not understand how to put the bodice fully together the instructions are so confusing.
Beautiful! Very neat and tidy finish, so skillful. Thank you for showing your process. It was really fun to watch and I appreciated the chance to look inside, too!I feel like that’s where all the interesting details are, like looking at the back of a tapestry. :) I’m looking forward to the sewalong!
Hi Siân!! Dress is absolutely gorgeous.. Fits you perfectly too.. Really enjoy the time lapses with the voiceover but sometimes I’m knitting while watching & I really love listening to you narrate what your doing is nicer.. Looking forward to the next dress & highlighted yokes…. 💜💜💜🧵🧵🧵
Rewatching. That top looks nice on itself as well. Could be a nice top for the highwaisted trousers that will happen this year (for both of us). We keep on believing 😉
Love this dress and this video format very cool!!! And i can totally see that dress in a beautiful silk crepe in cream with the gathered panels in a silk organza or beautiful lace! Man i wish i had someone to make that for!
I will do this dress for sure now. It looks wonderful on you. I think the dress is so much like one in a photograph of my grandmother in the 40s, I would love to "recreate" her look. The video was a nice change, seeing more of your process was nice. Thanks!
This is another lovely dress and very ‘you’. It’s similar to a vogue dress I made in late 60’s/early 70’s when I made myself dresses. I loved that dress it was in red crepe. I’ve often looked in vintage pattern sites but never found it.
Crap, I have this pattern and wanted to make it soon.. and I hate raw edges. I rarely follow instructions so that's good but I know now to postpone this until I am in the mood for a not so easy pattern lol.. thanks for this!
Sooo pretty! I have this pattern on my to do list. Thanks for sharing about the construction, I was wondering about the finishing. The finished product is worth it!
Really enjoy the format. This is such a gorgeous dress. I HAVE to make this dress for both of my daughters (and me eventually) as we already have the fabrics. I was surprised by the lack of gathering on the back skirt and thought of cutting the pieces a few inches bigger to get some gathering there. I had thought of colour blocking the yokes to define the details or piping (which is a very 1940's look) and the button loops. It fits so well on you, especially the shoulders. I will have to look at the sleeve length as my daughters are tall. xxx
I like this pattern. I actually liked it more as a short blouse. It looked better before you added the skirt. If you maybe lengthen the midrift part it could be a cute fun blouse pattern more than a so so dress.
The dress looks great! Even if we can't quite see all the details :) I've had my eye on this pattern for a while so I'm really looking forward to the sew along.
Love this dress, I bought the pattern on my recent visit to S.C. it's probably not suitable for my shape but I don't care I'm gonna make it. Off to find some fabric in my stash.
I love this dress on you!!! I will have to dig this pattern out and make one; I feel so inspired! Any tips for rouleau loops? I can never get them turned right side out.
I really like your quick version of putting the dress together. It gives e courage to try it myself. This dress looks a lot better on you than the drawing on the pattern! envelope. A sew a long would be fantastic.
I agree that the actual dress looks better than the drawings. They way the have the blouson effect widening the torso didn't seem like it would be flattering.
Oh yes that dress looks very smart !!! Totally your vibe... I will check into the pattern but I don't think it is remotely my size but I will be watching n looking for a pattern that is closer to altering for me n will be applying all your great skills to what I can find... Itch to Stitch has a sleeveless tops that the front has this styling n Made 4 Mermaids has a dress some what in this flavor... you are gorgeous in these styles n look forward to your sew-a-long... thank you !!!
The dress looks lovely. I don't think I've seen you wear that sort of collar, but it looks very nice on you. That fruity fabric is to die for. Can't wait to see it turned into a dress! On another note, I like the new format. I imagine it's less of a hassle to record the voice-over track than it would be to say the same thing while filming yourself.
Love this new content/video format! It’s the perfect combo of waffle and sew along. Like a sewing version of a chill lets play. Love it, more of that please 😍🤩 p.s the dress is of course also glorious 🙂 d.s
I enjoyed the format including more details. But isn't that going to make it more difficult for you? I'm fine with whatever you make, it will be great and will be watched by us all 💙
It came out so cute! I think leaving the neck ties off was a good choice. The fabric is adorable. Odd question for you - did you redraft the neckline of the M8167 when you made it? I picked up the pattern and all of the neckline options are a notched V, rather than a full/open V-neck like yours had. I would definitely prefer the straight V-neck and it should be a fairly minor alteration, but I thought it was so strange! Maybe a regional difference in patterns? Mine was bought in the US.
I did straighten out the neckline to be a little more like the inspiration dress. I am doing a sew-along for that dress when I can find the perfect fabric 😊 and thank you 😊
@@KittenishBehaviourSian it's not a *bad* measurement to know, but it's hardly the most relevant to the fit of the garment. It's like these companies have never actually tried to make the patterns they sell with the information they provide.
I have this pattern, but haven’t made it yet, as certain things bother me - namely, I don’t like the collar/neckline. I think it would look better with a true 70’s style collar, such as you find in Ossie Clark designs, or possibly even with a full-on pussy bow. Having seen your version, my personal opinion is that it would look better longer, and would hang better with a much deeper hem to give it more weight. Also, I think that rather than lengthening the sleeves, longer, shaped cuffs would look better, and would have the effect of creating more fullness in the sleeves. Another RUclipsr has made this dress, and added gathers to the back of the skirt, which looks good - this is the link ruclips.net/video/voUUbVhUxno/видео.html. I enjoyed the video, and would like to see more of how you line the bodice. I can’t believe the instructions tell you to leave raw edge - how awful! I’m going to have a look at them.
Personal question: you have beautyfull legs why do you have stokings with your dresses. You look much older with the stokings and i think its not so nice with the dresses Sorry😞. Iam a fan 😉

My copy of the pattern arrived yesterday!!! Looking sooooo forward to the sewalong 😁
I love the voice-over. I also think it is helpful that you go over the order you sew the pieces even though it is not a full sew-along. 🍒🍒🍒
I love the new format Sian. I also liked seeing you sew the dress.

Yet another dress pattern to add to my Pattern Review wishlist…
Hey, I would like to sew a similar dress, but I dont know how much fabric I should buy for that project. How much did you use?
I had 3 metres of this print. The pattern envelope will tell you how much fabric you'll need for each style 😊
@@KittenishBehaviourSian okay thank you😊

My next project is a lined wool skirt and of course the pattern gives me the finished hem measurement but not the finished waist or hip measurement. 🙄
I guess you’ll at least know how much bias binding to buy/make 🧐. It’s such a random measurement to give isn’t it 🤣
