Qualifying for this race was held in mostly damp-wet conditions. That's why Richards 58 second pole time was almost 3 seconds slower than Brock's from 1990 in the Sierra. In the race though Jim set the still standing Group A lap record for Symmons Plains at 55.97 seconds, which in the dry qualifying of 1990 would have put him on the third row. So imagine what the GT-R would have been capable of doing in 1991 had qualifying been dry. High 54's or low 55's wouldn't have been out of the question.
