You don't have to kill Johnson. just because there is scripted dialogue doesn't mean that you have to stop and listen to it, you can just move on to the next dropship.
Yes you have to listen to it otherwise the ship doesn't drop.

One my second try, I was able to do it in 19:33 and only lost one marine. I was luckily able to get a sniper into the passenger seat. The sniper, a gunner and a killtrocity splatter really helped. Love these guides, very inspirational, but I didn't want to kill the marines, so I kept my foot on the gas!
On my first try the elite fell out of the banshee in the beginning and I wasted a lot of time trying to take control, but it only gave the option to flip, and it was invulnerable on the ground. Weird.
Good video, I went through on easy, saved all the marines, and went 19 seconds over the time limit. I died once, and also didn't know about hopping over the warthog like a ladder.
I may be 6 years late but I find doing the 3 areas in reverse to what's shown in the video to be better, when ever I did it the way in the video I would never get collected unless I went to the first area and killed all the enemies there.
Only true Halo fans get the par time without killing Sgt. Johnson.

this is so buggy on PC. I didn't get the steam achievement, but I did for the silent cartographer...an entire different mission. it says in game I unlocked it but not on steam.
Ya, exact same situation just happened to me. Same 2 achievements
I ken it's a bit late, but some achievement names got mixed up on Steam, think it was the first 5 levels of CE had their par time/score achievement names swapped on Steam

It took me 2 tries to remember the layout since last time I did this was legendary.
I made it at 17:43.

I’m doing all par times now on an easy playlist run.
On Two Betrayals now.
So far, the most challenging one was Assault on the Control Room due to how long and winding it is. Plus, dying even once is punishing.
Truth and Reconciliation was a challenge because I got lost, some parts on the ship I forgot you have to kill everyone first to move on and if you don’t have at least 17:00 when finding Captain Keyes, you won’t make the par time due to being forced to wait around for 60-90 seconds. I forget but it’s at least a minute of you guys talking about how to escape until Cortana mentions a dropship.
When you said, "Kill Sergeant Johnson," I was like, "Bro, WHAT?" I never thought to kill the marines that you're supposed to be saving. I didn't even know they turned on you like that, either: shooting at you and red dots on the radar. Can you skip killing all enemies on the right side if you do it first or second, like you did with the left side? The middle only has one dropship, but you skipped that and went right last. I think I'll try going right, left then middle or left, right then middle to see if that is faster. Thanks.
Also, believe it or not, I tried this three times saving all marines like you're supposed to, and I got 22 minutes... ALL THREE TIMES... even while trying to go down different paths in the end. I was super frustrated. 😒

It's, alright. I got to the lift and got a terrible checkpoint so I had to restart. After that I did some trial runs without the Iron Skull on just so I could practice going down the lift. I made it past the lift a few times, but I'm trying to figure out why it works sometimes, but not others. Hopefully, I'll be able to come up with a solution other than "just go down the lift and pray it works!"

Dude.. I forgot about this. Took me three tries to do this speed and saving all the marines within 20 minutes and playing on legendary. Stupid me, going back to easy.
Nevertheless, I beat it. Future missions won't have this trouble lol

How do you get the timer ?
Question Man After you select the level and it goes to Options, go down to “Scoring And Time Hud” then move the left analog stick to the left or right to choose either Time, Score or Both. Then go down and Accept Options. Then choose Difficulty, Skulls and Start.

I though the par time and score achievements have to be done on normal
They can be done on any difficulty. The difficulty you choose affects the amount of points you get for everything, though. Off the top of my head I think Easy is .25x multiplyer, Normal is 1x (so normal is normal), Heroic is 2x and Legendary is 4x.
So you can't have skulls on and it can be any difficulty?
you can have grunt birthday party and that's it
You can have any skulls on apart from Bandana and any others that have a x0 multiplier.
Any skull with a 0x multiplier nullifies all time or score par achievements.
