    I can't believe all the haters. TS is an absolute bad-ass entertainer, who got a very well-deserved break by getting the job with Styx. He made it, millions of others didn't. So what. That's the music industry. Anybody who can sing, play, and compose like this guy deserves all the recognition they get. And if any of you haters had as much talent maybe you'd be on stage, entertaining, instead of trolling for hatred.

      I truly believe that without shaw, Styx wouldn't have gone as far as they did..., and then for the 83? album deyoung had this brilliant idea of Mr roboto which I'm sure Shaw wanted no part of which may be why they haven't made the hall of fame.. Deyoung was stirring the group in weird derections with what he thought was the right derection but ok maybe a few songs but Styx were all over the place.... I still say had Shaw had control of band derection they would have made the music Hall of fame years ago...... Deyoung was too theatrical in my opinion...🤔

    I absolutely get the weight reduced guitar occasionally , Ha had several SG's , but , ran across a 64 Melody Maker that was to die for , reworked by guitar genius Jack Cassidy , tech from Stryper , That Guitar is such a pleasure to play . I put the Lester or the Explorer down , and , what a relief to grab up , sounds like thunder , despite the weight . Best of Luck Tommy , My Alabama Brother , ha , yea , just found that out , way cool

    RIP Jimmy,
    July 24 2019
    From Styx FaceBook page
    It is with profound sorrow that I am announcing my dear friend and right-hand man, guitar tech and inventor Jimmy Johnson, passed away in his hotel room in the early hours of the morning here today, July 24, 2019, on the Southern Coast of California. When he failed to show up for lobby call, fellow crewmembers contacted hotel management, broke into his room, and discovered him there.

    I love Tommy Shaw, but I disagree about the heavy guitars. My back just can't handle heavy guitars. I have a couple of solid mahogany guitars that are back breakers, but rarely use them because they make my back ache after a couple of songs. They do sound great though.

      Give me a Casino or the new ES-390 (both completely hollow w/no sound block down the center & incredibly light) and you've got incredible tone monsters!
      I own both of them plus 40+ others. But the balls of a vintage LP is magic !!!

    If you know your Styx history, chances are pretty good that J.Y. didn’t cause Tommy to smash that old guitar. It was probably having to play Dennis’s silly music. God bless the interviewer! LOL

    Interesting that such a great, well-respected and world-renowned player is playing stuff like a Digitech Bad Monkey, an array of Boss pedals and a Marshall amp anyone can buy. Just goes to show you don't have to spend a ton of money to sound great, if you're a great player you'll sound great through just about anything.

      Playing the guitar is about 25% your gear. The other 75% is in your hands, your touch & the musical/emotional sensitivity you can convey with them...

    Hey Tommy,don`t get me wrong, I LOVE you dude and you are incredibly awesome and talented! But how is it possible for you to be hired by Dennis De Young,basically the creator and originator of Styx,and years later to be fired by you? I understand that the band went in different directions and his "Theatrical" road was different than your and JY`s intention. But look at where his vision has gotten you to! Dennis was the show in the 70`s .ya gotta admit he had serious talent! Sad to see so many talented bands break up due to artistic differences! Supertramp,comes to mind among others! You guys keep rocking though! I gotta give you that! Ever think about maybe bringing him back to do a reunion concert? Put it on DVD, make a few million more? Just a thought!

      Dennis pretty much neutralized his guitarists to compose commercial soft pop. They get on fine without him.

    • @garymanis6305
      @garymanis6305 Год назад

      You have your history wrong. DDY wanted to go bigger into rock opera with bigger and more expensive shows. Something that the band did not want to do. Shaw wanted to do more arena rock style music with an edgier sound. Shaw decided to go solo in 1983, but stayed for one more album. DDY decided to go solo in 1984. They both left Styx in 1984. They planned a reunion in 1990, but Shaw had other obligations, so couldn't join then. They had a successful tour in 1991, then the band broke up. JY formed his own group, DDY did Jesus Christ Superstar. Some of them got together to do their GHv1 album. Styx reformed and did limited tours with various members after that.
