I recently watched "Only Murders in the Building" and kept seeing Link in Steve Martin. In his mannerisms, voice and even when he was agitated. They're so similar to me.
Link’s retelling of the Merle friendship moment they shared was so sweet🥹 You can tell that Link had a full circle moment when him and his best friend were sharing the same joys all those years later, this time with their boys sleeping the back seat. Made me emotional ❤️
Rhett's story about praying to God in the woods for a doorway shaped hole in a tree to be his "Narnia" is heartwarming and a little saddening that it didn't happen.
It's adorable and relatable in its melancholy and goofy innocence. I used to watch reruns of Bewitched and pray in earnest nightly to wake up with Samantha's nose twitching powers.
As a fellow fan of Merle's, I always love the sheer joy they exude talking about Merle's work. When he died, I found out right before I went to work. Cried off and on all day. Luckily, I was in the back.
@@RedZone0401 I'm sorry. That is a regret. With Neil Diamond, I bought tickets, got the date wrong, and missed the show. Couldn't listen to his work for a while after that without crying. Three tickets. Somewhere around $400. Next time he came I bought tickets and went. Incredible show. So glad I did as he doesn't perform anymore.
I work at Dolly's show where people eat while watching a show on horseback! Dolly Partons Stampede is the best. Thanks Rhett and Link for giving a shout out.
These gentleman are so humble! I feel their comedic timing and chemistry outshines Key and Peele. To have developed an entire RUclips universe based around their friendship is truly an accomplishment and I’m so thrilled to be a Mythical Beast. Keep up the amazing work gents, your presence is truly inspiring and positive!
If I were Link and Rhett said he relied on me to give him playlists... he would either love it or grow to regret it. When I work out front at work, I take control of the music. Nothing makes me happier than people loving what I play. People will comment on the variety and how they weren't expecting one type of music to follow another and how much they love it. Last week I got someone into Emmylou Harris. I agree with Link - it's an amazing feeling when someone loves what you're playing or have put together playlist-wise. I'd be sending a stream of playlists his way.
I never made the Letterman connection with "Will it..." you guys need to drop stuff from a roof or rent a steamroller to squish things. It totally fits GMM!
I love how much I relate to the things that have inspired you and the things that influenced your humor/how you see the world, even though I'm almost half your age. Narnia was the most influential thing in my life as a child. I relate to Rhett longing to find his wardrobe. I would often lock myself in my closet, close my eyes, & pray to Aslan, hoping beyond hope that I would find myself there. I loved Narnia more than I loved Earth. As such, stories of someone discovering another world are my favourites. I have a sense of wonder that I've never been able to shake because of Narnia. Then when I was older & read more of Lewis' work, my mind and my spirit were expanded even more. No one writes more perfectly than him, imo. I relate to listening to the same few albums on repeat, no shuffle (first cassette tapes then CDs), and a specific artist seeping into your being. For me it's Sam Roberts, a rock n roll artist from Montreal. He's a wordsmith and so much of how I learned to express myself thru writing came from him. I geeked out when you mentioned O Brother Where Art Thou? because I often feel like the only person in the world who knows this movie exists and appreciates it. It's what I consider a "perfect" film. Every second, every line, every shot is *perfect*. Every time I watch it, I feel elated afterwards. The Cohen brothers humor has influenced mine big time. I feel like you guys and I would connect on a lot of levels and have a lot to talk about :) When I hear how much we have in common despite leading very different lives, I understand more and more why I love your content so much and why you two have inspired me so much too! #earbiscuits
I love watching how our culture grew up. I started in college as a terrified isolated religiously pious child who found the nerd brothers. They made me feel at home when I was terrified. I know people will probably vehemently disagree with me about this, but I think Conan O’Brien and Link have similar comedy styles. I can’t pinpoint what it is. But I see it.
I loved Letterman's show back in the day for not only the humour but the music. The music was incredible. I read somewhere that they would look for acts that they thought he would enjoy. Whether that's true or not... I don't know.
They definitely did. Seth Meyer's had Letterman as a guest recently and surprised him by bringing on Adam Duritz from Counting Crows. Dave loved it. He is a big music fan and you usually could tell when he had one of his favorites on the show. They released a great album in 1997 of musical guests called Live on Letterman. It has some great live performances and collaborations that you won't find anywhere else.
Benny has some video up on RUclips......he still had the records in his background. The fact that I can look him up on RUclips while listening to this podcast made me appreciate the age of the internet we live in.
Guys, if you want to make a movie just Crowd fund it’s production. Secure some big capital to get into theaters, crowd fund a percentage of the cost and give royalties to the investors (also great marketing) and do it yourselves. You don’t need to use big Hollywood studios. You just need either theaters or streaming services or to just use RUclips connections to get it out there. The fact that you guys are both always trying to go the old school way of things hurts my heart and head. You have a platform and a built in audience. Use them to your advantage and start being Trail Blazers like all these influences you have.

Wow the John boy and Billy big show reference. I remember listening to that with my brother in law in his truck headed to get some coffee at 5 am before heading into the woods and the whole drive in during hunting season in WV. I don't hunt now but man that's a flashback

I would recommend trying to find episodes of David Letterman when he was on in the afternoons in the 80's. Just a lot of off the cuff stuff like making little figures dance on a speaker when they played the music.
I used to watch a lot of Dana Carvey's work. I've memorized some of his stand-up. I don't see very much of him in Link's style. A little bit but not so as to be the only flavour.
