    I was just avblout to buy this door and I decided to check if someone has experience with Reliabilt. Great comparison> Lowes and Home Deport are across the street from each other. You saved me a ton of time and headaches. Thank you again Much success to you and yours

    I wish that I would have seen this before buying a Jeld=Wen entry door. I now have a door that has a jamb that's plumb and level in the frame, but out of plane. I started to look at the hinges and low and behold, they are a mess! All three of them. thank you for an honest and informative review.

    Thank you so much! We were about to purchase a Jeld-Wen exterior door. We saw the Reliabilt and decided to check out your video. So glad we came across it! I know you are rating interior doors but looking at the quality, we will go with Reliabilt. Thanks again!

    Thanks for the HONEST comparison! Will steer clear of the Jeld-Wen (which is also available through Lowes here in KY)

    hello and thank you for the vid.
    I work in the prehang door industry.
    did you notice that both the doors and the jambs are of the same type.
    believe or not, all of the materials come from the same factory.
    they are put together from different companies.
    i noticed that one side had four staples on the jamb and the other had three.
    doors are a different color for a reason.
    if you could provide a picture of the top of the door before finishing,
    I could point in the right direction of where the product came from.
    sadly, to say, companies like these are more concerned with volume.
    since the public gets charged for a product that's built in less than 5 minutes.
    that's start to finish and on the truck.

    Thanks for your video. Very helpful in what to look for. We were suggested to buy jeld wen, but when I went to lowes the RB door looked great, so I'll be checking further into it.

    There all the same s#!t!
    Reliabilt is a "private label" door built for Lowe's by (GUESS WHO?) Jeld-Wen.
    Reliabilt is a Lowe's owned brand name,the manufacturers who build under that name, however,vary greatly.
    For example, RB garage doors are made by Amarr. RB patio doors are Jeld-Wen
    RB interior doors are manufactured by Masonite Inc. RB windows
    previously were Survivor, but when they went under, Atrium took over
    the slot. This, by the way, I can only say is true for the east.
    Different regions of the country have different suppliers who
    manufacture under the RB brand.
    As for the interior doors the same company makes the Masonite interior
    door for Home Depot and the Reliabilt door for Lowe's. They use the
    same UPCs on both brands of Reliabilt .

      Yeah this is true. Reliabilt is by Jeld-Wen.

  • @EdomusVR
    @EdomusVR 2 месяца назад

    6 years ago, Reliabilt probably wasn't owned by Jeld-Wen, but they have been for a while now.
    They're now essentially the same company. This is for anyone that is just seeing the video.

    Hopefully this goes for the exterior doors as well. I am under the impression that the Reliabilt doors have multiple manufacturers depending on the type of door you are buying, as it's just a private label for Lowe's. Would appear that they have higher quality standards overall though, which, fingers crossed, translates to their entire product line.
    Thanks for the video!

      Yes, this definitely goes for exterior doors also. I also installed a front door and a french door at that same house and ran into the exact same issues and more with the french door.

    How much does it cost the client to get these doors installed? I'm having a new door installed with a couple square feet of drywall on top, and replacing another hollow core one with a broken jam with a pre-hung solid core door.
    Cost is $1600

    • @NorthIdahoCarpenter
      @NorthIdahoCarpenter  4 года назад +1

      Cost all depends on the doors that are purchased for the project and where you live. If you're in a big city you'll always pay more for labor then out in the country. Also depends on how hot the construction industry is in your area. The factors are far and wide. Id suggest getting at least 3 estimates for the work. But you also have to realize the cheapest one isn't always the best option. They may do shotty work. Ask your friends, family, co-workers for references to a finish carpenter.

    Aaron,im building a barndo and lookng at vinyl windows sliders with nailing flange .i was originally looking at jeldwens 4500 but was told to buy the american craftsman what are your thoughts ? also what do you think of therma vu front doors

    • @NorthIdahoCarpenter
      @NorthIdahoCarpenter  3 года назад

      As far as windows go id go Pella over Jeldwen or American Craftsman. They seem to be made better and have less issues over time.
      I have not installed a Therma Tru door but I have seen them and I'm not impressed. While they may look good at first, they appear to be made very cheaply and start breaking down very quickly. But as with everything else in this world, it all comes down to $$$ and how much you can spend to get better quality. Even with low end doors Id still go with Pella. This is just my experience with the doors that are available in my area.

    I am doing 7 doors myself with the Jeld Wen prehung doors from Home Depot like here. Everything is ok except the uneven hinges depth mounting is bad which makes the doors gaps on the knob side too small near top and bigger near the bottom that the doors can not be closed. Will removing the hinges screws on the doors and chisel or sand out the slot the way to do it ? Can the screws be removed and remount without stripping the screw holes on the doors ?

    • @NorthIdahoCarpenter
      @NorthIdahoCarpenter  4 года назад +1

      Most of the time you can reuse the screw holes but if the screws are really angled you need to fill the holes and redrill new holes. Another issue I've ran into is that the head is actually to short for the door plus an 1/8"ish reveal for both sides of the door. Example: a 30" door, plus and 1/8" reveal for both sides would mean your head needs to be 30 1/4" wide. Many times I've had heads that were 30 1/16" or 30 1/8" which means there is either no reveal or it is really really small making it difficult to install the door with nice functionality. In that case we do something called popping the head. Basically we hammer the jambs out off the head. Sometimes 1/16" and sometimes more all depending on what the door needs. If it's a large gap we put a shim in the gap to fill it and make sure it never closes back up over time. Otherwise we just caulk it and after paint you can't even tell we did it.

    • @NorthIdahoCarpenter
      @NorthIdahoCarpenter  4 года назад +1

      Also if you need to fill the holes and redrill a great quick trick is to use a wood shish kabob skewer. Most everyone has them in their kitchen and if you don't they are super cheap. You can leave the skewer full length, put a little dab of wood glue on the tip, shove it in the hole as far as it will go, then just bend it left and right until it breaks off. 98% of the time it breaks off perfectly flush and can be re drilled immediately.

    Wouldn't these doors be hung by some random company and not actually Jeld Wen? Not saying it's a good look for their brand, but I feel like this would vary so much door-by-door and location.

  • @olmoe1167
    @olmoe1167 2 года назад +6

    LOL... You young guys kill me with your rants on how bad things are made... Heck you all in this day and age have it EASY... almost everything is Pre Cut, Pre Mortised on both the jambs and slabs, Pre Boared for the knobs, and already assembled as a unit....
    You youngsters would have never been able to call yourselves a Carpenter back when I first started construction in the Seventies... We had to do everything ourselves, and for the most part, by hand...We got a Bare Slab, 1x4 boards to make our own jambs, that had to be cut to size, then both the jambs and slab had to be mortised out for hinges, put together as a unit, then installed in the opening, then all the stop and casing was applied....All this for every door in the house...
    Be a True Carpenter,, instead of just an Installer...
    Tighten up the screws, apply a little bit of caulk in the Hinge/router blowout, knock the misaligned jamb apart and renail it back straight... All this requires less than ten minutes to straighten out and move on to the next one...
    And as far as installing door units from different manufacturers in the same house,, not a smart idea...
    Most companies have their own Hinge and strike patterns , and this might cause problems later on for the homeowners or Contractor if a slab has to be replaced...

    You should see the Jeld Wen now. When I painted one it warped and Lowes said "no return if you paint it". I insisted and they will exchange it if I get it back within 30 days. Well, it has been 31 days. Steve's Doors get their skins from Jeld Wen. Pathetic craftsmanship on them all.
