Josh: "It's not weird"
Nicole: "That's weird"
Feels like that sums up their relationship pretty well... xD
Trevors face when Josh is introducing "Tornado Bottoming" is just too precious
I can't believe they thought he was crazy for that. I do that as well and it makes perfect sense to me, you get an even distribution of toppings around the dog. You have to be be quick about adding your toppings though, because if the dog sits for too long in the bun before you try to turn it it starts to stick together and nobody wants that.
@@IntrepidRacer13 I'm pretty sure Trevor's face is from the terminology not the concept.
Toasted buns only work for Chili Dogs! You get the added flavor from the toasting, but the chili helps moisten them back up without disintegrating them!
Mayo helps soften toasted buns, and who doesn't use mayo on their hot dog (sandwich) 😋
Facts, just like how steamed hamburger buns only work for things that are super crispy like fried chicken. All about that contrast
Add a layer of peanut butter on the bun
@@jeffbenoitbowlinggreen7359 Now you lost me, but peanut butter and mayonnaise on a banana sandwich is awesome.
@@tourmalino3205 I think mayo as it is belongs on nothing. The only use for mayo is as a base to make a sauce or salad dressing that actually tastes good, and even then 99% of the time you're better off using aioli.
I want AT LEAST a short where Josh makes Tony Chachere-o's
oh , you also only watched the first 30 seconds of the video to comment and move on with life without watching the rest? Join the club! We have Tony Chachere-o's.
@@craigrobbins2463 dude… wtf is your problem?
Goner - he’s tired of jackassery?
@@craigrobbins2463 PISS OFF CRAIG
i love how comfy Vi has gotten shes hilarious!!
Yes!
But she committed the sin of ketchup on a dog, that is grounds for a court martial
prankmonkey, it’s her hot-dog. Let her dress it as she likes. You people that think ketchup is a sin are weird. Get over yourself.
Guys, we need you to do oatmeal next. Steel cut vs. rolled oats? Milk versus water versus cream? Add spices to the liquid and boil/add oats or add it all and mix it in? Fruit while cooking or after cooking? There's just so many different ways to make oatmeal, need some scientific tests to find the best bowl.
Keep up the great content!
I guess the perk of waking up at five in the morning is early access to mythical kitchen
For me it’s getting insight into how terrified I am about things going wrong bc that’s early enough for me to remember my dreams.
Timezones man *stoned voice*
The Mythical Kitcheneers are just pervy miscreants and I love them so much
its time to gluzzle glizzies with optimal umptuousness
Nichole with the golf absolutely made my morning. She is an absolute ball of sunshine. THEN THE BUGS LIFE REFERENCE! She’s precious lol
I love putting my buns in an air fryer. Outside is toasted well while the inside is still nice and fluffy
I, too, have an oven.
@@vincedibona4687 I, too, have met somebody with Down syndrome. They also couldn’t tell the difference between an air fryer and an oven
I continue to believe that air frying is a cult.
@@DasFlippityFlop Well, I just met someone on the internet who not only doesn't know what a joke is, but will insult someone needlessly.
Notice how there was no slight in my statement. Either one now. I didn't insult anyone. But you decided to reply that way. That says far more about you than me, son. Rethink your ways, maybe you won't have to learn this lesson again. Have a great day.
I agree! And yes, I've done it in an oven - definitely not the same. The smaller enclosed convection action of an air fryer is the bomb.
Can you guys try busting latte myths? I feel like there's a lot of things people tell me about making coffee. Instant vs ground. Whole vs half and half vs substitutes. Also I just feel like Josh will be a menace when he's hopped up on caffeine 😂
I always tornado bottomings my hotdogs. Thought I was alone. xD My husband is like "What are you doing?" And I'm like, "Twisting the wiener in the buns so everything gets sauced." Granted, I just called it twisting, but Tornado Bottomings is a funner phrase. lol
Yup I've also been doing this since I was a kid. Never saw anyone else do it, but I'm glad to know there is a tornado bottoming community out there.
I feel validated, I do this too!
They just said that you're wrong, and the rest of us toppings people are correct.
I do this but I put the toppings in the bun followed by the hot dog then twist. I think they did it backwards which made a difference.
Yes! I always prefer Mayo on my hot dogs. When I moved east coast people thought I was crazy for asking where the Mayo was.
I love mayo on a hot dog, it just adds that extra bit of special zing to it
@@EnlightendBeast999 so have you heard of mustard
@@a.w.1820 Yeah, I'm not that into mustard, the taste is too overbearing. Mayo is just compliments a hot dog pretty well with other condiments, as it would a sandwich.
@@a.w.1820 I grew up with hot dog toppings being mayo (on bun), ketchup, mustard & relish (though I never put relish on, I didn't like it as a kid). So pretty basic "American" toppings + mayo. There are so many regional takes on hot dogs, lots of variations to celebrate. :)
@@TwentySevenist, try dill relish. I don't care for sweet ingredients in a savory dish, but one day I noticed they do make relish with dill pickles instead of sweet. Now I use it anywhere most people use sweet relish-hotdogs, potato salad, etc. World of difference.
As a Person from Vienna I very much enjoyed this episode. I wish one day I can show josh all types of Austrian sausages
I’m with Josh, I like to spin the hot dog to get an even distribution of condiments. Sometimes if it’s all on top, it’s just a bit too much
Also it usually falls out or gets everywhere. I put it on top and only spin it when I'm about to eat it so the bun doesn't get soggy.
same here, I turn it in the bun too.
And can make a mess. I don’t let the bun get soggy either
i do the same XD
I just put ketchup and Mustard on the bun and on top, but in smaller amounts so it's balanced lol
There was as much innuendo as I was hoping for. I love the different types of chaos everyone brings
Growing up having hot dogs in the microwave, we were always taught to score them so they don't explode in the microwave
there's something special about throwing a hot dog in a bun, draping a Kraft single over top and throwing it in the microwave for 2 minutes. Its not the best by any means, but it is nostalgic. I still do it sometimes.
@@mikeellchuk3787yeah my dad used to make a fancier version of that. Plain white bread, actual cheese and some kind of cured sausage. 10/10
So good to see Trevor, missed him in a few of the recent episodes
Agreed! We here at my house thought they had moved him on to something else + his podcast, so it's nice to have his face back!
Eh I was hoping he was going to stay gone.
@@Oofded That's fine, the other hundreds or thousands of us who appreciate the type of humor he offers will continue to enjoy it! Nobody is forcing you to watch!
Same!!!
What? Really?? I was hoping he quit...can't stand him
I’ve been taught since childhood that poaching brats and hot dogs in beer, butter, and onions is the only acceptable way! Always thought it was just a Wisconsin thing though. Lol
Same!
Good to see this happening other places. As a lifelong Wisconsinite this makes me cry cheese!
That sounds delightful 🥺
beer and kraut
I do sausages and brats in beer (a good stout beer) never tried hotdogs yet
I think my favorite moment was 05:28, the captions were perfect! And Josh being "The Glizzy Gladiator" is something that surely sticks, right!? Seriously, this video was top tier and I greatly appreciate the consistency on the captions as I basically read every episode! Can't wait for the next one!
this should be retitled to "Busting Hot Dog Grilling Myths" because theres a whole lot of other ways to cook a hot dog than just on a grill
no valid ones though
@@rbad6215 They are more valid, in fact
Fight!
11:31 I like how Nicole ate the hot dog like a sandwich. So a hot dog is a sandwich confirmed. 😂
If a split hotdog is a hotdog then a hotdog is a sandwich.
You guys should do rice/ a rice dish! Rice is so finicky. I do soak for 10mins, double rinse, 1:2 water ratio, some dishes I fry the rice in butter before adding water, no rice cooker etc.
I do toppings and bottomings. Specifically, I apply Mustard directly to the bun, then I put the dog on the mustard, then I add more mustard and relish. So it isn't exactly spinning the dog (because the relish is only on the top) but it does have mustard on all sides.
Another great installment of the Myth Munchers! That cut to the quartet after Josh’s E-card: *blows chef’s kiss*
"Does the glizzy god rain weiners down on your face," followed by Nicole raining weiners on your face, fully implies that Nicole is the glizzy god. This is now cannon.
Shame about the wasting of food though by just throwing it on the floor for a ‘bit’ 😕
@@butt.whytho Were they? I must have missed that part if it was said, fair enough if they’re just props
@@butt.whytho You’re right, I didn’t have headphones on before but that’s deffo not a hotdog sound - (GG MK sorry for thinking you’d wasted food!)
One thing that I have had for hotdogs is also having the wall lightly buttered and put on a flat grill to golden crisp and it is so good when you do that
Seriously, V's idea about steaming the bun in beer is great and I need Josh to do it immediately.
The thing to know best about split, as many vendors and 5 Guys do, is to either put something on top to keep them from curling or flip them multiple times, not just once.
"Is that because you're an alcoholic?"
"No, I can stop anytime I want!"
kitchen staff be like
Why was Josh being visible upset at the soggy steamed buns so hilarious
Expanding my culinary prowess with every show! Thank you Mythical Kitchen
Josh should do a video about his pre and post workout meals and then he and Trevor should do a day in the life of josh. I think it would be hilarious! 🤣
at 11:30 nicole showed us that a hotdog truly is a sandwitch
would definitely want to see josh making tony chachere-o’s
If there are any Viennese viewers here listening to him talk about munching on you, how do you feel about it? 😂
Myth Munchers is so my favorite Mythical Kitchen format! I go back to relevant episodes whenever I'm cooking!
Never tried this, but steaming the buns and THEN slightly grilling seems like it’d be the best of both worlds!
Mayo on hotdogs are dope and Matlock would be proud of this episode
Mayo on hotdogs is delicious
I'm so glad I stayed up drunk all night to catch this just in time to go to sleep before acceptable grilling time.
I'm from Australia and I've never seen a hot dog cooked on the BBQ, we normally boil/steam them and eat them in a hotdog bun. We cook sausages on the BBQ and eat them on 1 slice of bread, called a sausage sizzle. Very popular as a fundraiser outside big hardware stores, sporting events and election polling places (democracy sausage)... Oh and they are served with tomato sauce (like ketchup) mustard and cooked onions. There was a stupid think going around that you must put the onion on the bottom because is you put it on the top it could fall off and cause someone to slip and fall.
Loving the casual chaos in this video!
Trevor tries to share the bucket with Josh!😂
I keep a little cast iron griddle on my bbq, ideal for toasting buns without just scorching them 👌 good for cooking a few strips of bacon too
"I want to throw it" Trevor almost let the intrusive thoughts win with that one
Josh: "are you schvitzing?"
Vi: "not schvitzing at all- just out here hot and sexy"
What a moodddd😂💜
Would love to see Josh figure out the best beer and hot dog combo, which is really an excuse to find out if there is any combo that would be as deplorable as Pepsi milk
Yea I still refuse to call a hotdog a glizzy lol
This raises new questions. The first thing I thought of, after we decided split was better, was if they should be poached whole, or split.
Vi coming in with the Accepted reference, one of my favourite movies. Love to see it
it would be cool to see a "Perfect meal" episode where they make the "Perfect" meal with all the winners
I knew Vi was the best!!! Finally I have found another person who puts mayo on hot dogs!!! lol I do mayo and mustard together, though. And a couple pieces of dill pickle, or homemade pickled onions...mmm......
My father always taught me that once they start to split on the stove top they are done. Once they do the same / get a slight char on the grill they are also done.
Boiling and THEN grilling was the wildest plot twist of them all.
Nicoles bun splitting on the split dog and biting it in the center... Was that technically a sandwich?
Pouching in beer is amazing. Especially with brats🤤
Your "tornado bottoming" tech is always my go-to hot dog condiment management system. Especially with chili dogs.
As an appointed representative of the Council of Gen X, I motion to never again refer to a hot dog, weiner, or bratwurst as a "glizzy"
When one of my grandmothers arrived here from Italy she discovered hotdogs. But, of course she gave it an Italian spin. Split them open, slice up a green or red pepper, an onion, and saute everything in a generous amount of butter, and served on toasted buttered Italian bread.
It was common enough in our area that delis sold "Italian dogs" or "Italian wedges" ( if you know what a wedge is, you are part of an elite group, lol) Even now some still do sell them.
When they mentioned toppings, I was disappointed to find it's just sauces. Onions, bacon and cheese, (plus mustard and ketchup) ftw! Also I reckon the problem with the toasted buns was just they did them too long.
Absolutely love that you guys are using the Babish pairing knife 🧡🧡🧡
I feel like scoring is only really necessary for sausages or the more rustic thicker hot dogs you'll get at some hotdog carts. Personally I like to cook them whole, and as long as I have the heat just right, I know they'll be perfectly cooked when they start splitting themselves.
Josh just out here working hard to make "glizzy" happen.
I've done a spiral cut on hotdogs for added surface area for grill/smoky flavor! just starting this segment now so I'm wondering if that's part of the result?
Tornado bottoming sounds like a euphemism for a bedroom activity.
V's shoe game is always so on point (gif of toddler saluting Jeter with baseball hat)
My husband’s family has a marinade for their hot dogs and my life was improved forever-you just don’t add anything, it’s simply the hot dog and the bun
You can't say that and not share the marinade. The people wanna know!
Agreed! Give up the goods, Katelyn!! Lol
Ginger, garlic salt , worcestershire sauce, canola oil, and soy sauce 😁
@@katelynb5838 That sounds like something I would have made; sad I didn't. Gonna have to now :D Thanks for sharing!
@@Mad-Lad-Chad of course!! Sorry for the wait, my work week’s been a little crazy 😅 haven’t made it to much youtube
I've been a split, tornado person almost my whole life
Cant wait to try the beer. But I'm still going to stay with the pan seared, with butter, garlic, and onion powder bun all day
So many innuendos! I love it!
*Furiously takes notes on Josh's tornado bottoming technique*
Josh : *proceeds to demonstrate the tornado bottomings technique
Nicole : *holds glizzy
Trevor: *stands there
Vee: This is just sloppy toppy 🥸
I love to see the team busting some Sandwich myths.
Where is Emily?! Show her to us!
Replace Trevor with Emily.
@@Oofded YES!
This video reinforced for me how much I hate the name Glizzy for a hot dog.
love the shooting hotdogs at Harrison Ford while the Montey Python music plays
V got it right. Can't have a "salchicha" without mayonnaise. 😁
i love that they just skipped grilled vs boiled bc it’s too obvious
im a boiled type of gal lol
I too prefer boiled. lol
Boiled as well
I am grilled type of gal
I poach my hot dogs and don't grill them after
I am glad I found this channel. You guys are very funny. 😂
Yall todayas my 21 bdsy and immmm watching this drinming is great love you
Good to see Trevor again, missed him!!
I hope we can all agree that boiling hot dogs without grilling afterwards is, frankly, the worst way to deal with franks.
I pan-fry mine in a little butter until the skin is nicely browned and the interior properly warmed.
5 year olds don't care...
@@kevinsullivan3448 that's why they get the cheap ones
This episode has jr summer camp counsellor energy.
The only exception to "toppings" is to "bottom" the sauerkraut!!!! Also if you use chopped/diced onions/tomatoes, those are best on the bottom as well.
Exactly! My rule is if it can fall off, it goes on the bottom SO IT DOESN'T FALL OFF.
My brain wants to think that poaching a hotdog in beer is gross even though I poach bratwursts in beer nearly every time I make them.
Make it all make sense. 😭
"You'bout to waste a glizz!" Vi is my favorite
"I'm not opposed to not trying it" this is how i will be saying no from here on out lol
I personally think they overdid the toasted buns
Would have been better had they taken it off earlier
I'm so in love with V, she's the best! all the kitchen is amazing.... but she's #1 (I edited because "oddly" made me feel wrong......I just f'kin love her)
Vee and Josh are the best combo, don't @ me
The aggressive bits josh takes is really something I can relate to
Josh finally put words to spinning the hotdog that I have done for so long and get weird looks from my family which have nothing to do with me making them dogs at 10am
Honestly, I probably wouldn't bother doing any of these methods for the buns and just put the hotdog on the bun straight out of the wrapping lol
if you steam them once, you'll never go back.
Okay BUT these episodes are just Josh trying to prove his techniques are better than the rest 😂 too much.
I'm not kidding, Trevor really is morphing into 1980's Shawn Michaels it's crazy lol
Rochester NY is synonymous with a butterflied hotdog, that any non Rochesterian that comes here is always shocked by how many of the old school dog places cook their hots.
I know it isn't a proprietary thing; just super popular here. Very few out of towners seem to have seen it like that from what I've seen. Even people as close as Buffalo NY seem stumped by it. But it's my favorite way to do a red or white hot.
I feel like they missed the "dirty" part of the dirty water dog. That just looked like clean water. It should have the juice of a thousand hot dogs before it from the food truck or hot dog vendor. But thats why you cant really do a dirty water dog at home.
☝️this guy gets it
"I am happiest when I have 5 Guys in my mouth."
Also, A&W splits their hot dogs as well.
Mayonnaise on a hotdog is severely slept on so I’m glad y’all explored it
Trevor is slowly getting infected by Joshism xD
