  • Griffin shares his crazy experience filming Election Night in America-how much travel, expense and work hours go into building maybe 5 minutes of a television show. He earned a “Director of Photography” credit on Showtime, and safely navigated around a known COVID-positive team member on set.

As always a very wonderful video that you gents put together. Thank you. I don’t dare to say anything Griffin, but if I may, to me and in my opinion you’re back light seemed a bit too bright and harsh compared to your main light which is very soft and lovely . So the back light is making the focus of attention of the whole shot on your side burn, ear and back of your neck and if you cut the light down a stop or two and maybe diffuse it a bit as it would give the shot more harmony . I love your show and Please excuse me for saying anything but, we’re all on the same team. All the best. Terme

Always good to hear from you, Terme! I took your advice and lowered the intensity of that back light on my latest episode.

Back in my Panasonic ENG camera days (before moving over to the GH series), I really liked how they had a pre-record buffer, so I could listen for a speaker to make a quote, hit record, and be confident I got the 3-seconds (if recording in 1080p) or even 7-seconds (if recording in 720p) before I hit record, very similar to the GH5/9s pre-burst shooting for photos. I was kinda hoping that ENG features would eventually make it into some of the GH cameras.

Have you considered a Zoom F3 or F6 for an audio drop bag? Small and 32bit so you can recover the audio if your mic on the PA speaker clips.
    Condolences to you and yours.

I should play around with 32-bit recording devices (haven't yet)-though in this case, it wouldn't have helped. The clipping was happening on their end, coming out of their speakers already distorted.

@@GriffinHammond Yes, I mean to say, the PA might be really loud and not clip but your microphone/recorder might. I really like the little Zoom F3 but it doesn't really have usable timecode so I've held off. The bigger one like the Zoom F6 is just too expensive.
